Monday Afternoon, Alex/Lorna
Nov. 7th, 2005 04:57 pmAlex comes home to find Lorna napping. Shockingly and unexpectedly, they are cute at each other.
Lorna had straightened the living room and cleaned the kitchen one too many times. She was tired of it, tired of being alone, and too tired to make the effort that it took to walk about the mansion, feeling like all eyes were on her. Instead, Lorna retreated to the bedroom, pulled on one of Alex's shirts and crawled into bed on top of the covers, holding his pillow tightly, hoping he'd come home soon. She didn't think she'd sleep but concentrated on breathing evenly, taking deep breaths until she drifted off into a light doze.
Stretching as he walked in the door, Alex dropped his bag and looked around for any sign of green. First, Alex of course checked the kitchen and found the signs of a marathon of baking...but no Lorna. Frowning slightly, he called out, "Lorna?" Not too loud, just in case. And he was glad he did when he went and inspected the bedroom to see her asleep in the bed. Smiling softly, He stripped off his heavy sweatshirt and crawled in beside her, holding her close as she slept.
She'd been sleeping lightly so when Alex settled in beside her, it was half-dreaming, half-waking that she snuggled into him and blinked open her eyes, focusing on him hazily. "Hello," she said, slurring her words slightly from lingering sleep. "Are you back?" That would be nice, she thought as her brain slowly kicked into gear.
Grinning, Alex leaned forward and nuzzled his nose against hers. "Yep, I'm home." His voice was soft since he recognized her half asleep state. "Go back to sleep. You look like you needed it..."
"Mm, no. Just napping." She kissed him as her eyes drifted closed again, nothing loathe to continue this nice doze now that he was here. "Didn't have anything else to do. Ran out of eggs." Her hand crept up and threaded into his hair. "How you?" she inquired on a stifled yawn.
"Better now that Scott's here and not in Seattle...Not having you in Seattle sucked. Nurses are scary." He mumbled the last part as he pulled her closer and kissed her forehead. "How much baking did you do?"
"Had to stop when I ran out of eggs. Shiro brought me more cinnamon. Nice boy," she shifted so her head rested on his shoulder, fingers still combing softly through his hair, "Why are nurses scary? Did they try to stick needles in you?"
"That much huh? Any strawberry pie? Scott deserves a treat." He ignored the fact it was his favorite too, but she knew that. Wrapping one arm around her waist, he rested his chin comfortably on top of her nestled head. "Evil nurse named Annie kept pinching my butt and flirting with me. And the other nurses wouldn't leave Scott alone. I admire Jean's tolerance."
"Are you scarred for life? I can go beat her up," Lorna muttered in a not terribly serious offer. It was hard to be worried about grabby nurses right at the moment. "There was pie. Pumpkin. But no fresh strawberries so I couldn't make that. Get me some and I'll make one." She frowned and grumbled, "Thanksgivings soon. Have to plan for that."
"No, I'm home with you. That's good enough for me." Annie was the furthest thing from his mind at the moment, He had Lorna, his Lorna, right here. It was perfect. "Pumpkin's good too. I like anything you make. But there's a reason I like Fourth of July better then Thanksgiving."
Lorna smiled, a bit more awake. "Have you eaten? There's plenty of real food too. And someone should eat it. I didn't want to make too much. But there's a lot. I'll make you strawberry pie if you ask Dani to get me strawberries." Something finally filtered through, "Wait, you admire something about Jean? Are you sure you're okay?"
"I can eat real food, in fact that sounds really good. Hospital food is horrible and neither Jean nor I had the heart to go out and get something while Scott was stuck there." Then he blushed, burying his face in her hair for a moment. "Umm yeah. I apologized to Jean. We actually get along really well now..."
She made a squeaking happy noise and hugged Alex tightly, then pulled him down for a quick kiss before grinning. "I'm so glad that you're okay with her now. She's really a wonderful person." She sat up, wide-awake now and feeling much better for both her nap and his presence. "Come on, I'll make you something for...uh, dinner? What time is it anyway?"
"So I have found out. I couldn't possibly forgive you and not forgive her. I may by dense but I'm not a hypocrite. And I have no idea what time it, though dinner sounds wonderful." Alex watched her as she sat up, still lying on his back and just smiling up her, like she was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. Which she was.
Lorna stretched, yawning, running her hands through her hair while she pondered what she'd left in the refrigerator and how clever she was going to have to be in order to make something that was vaguely edible. It was possible that she was going to be feeding him pastries for dinner. Perhaps next time she went on a cooking spree she should make something other than desserts. "Is there anything that you particularly want?" she asked absently once she finished yawning.
Alex bit the inside of his cheek. "You know what...if you're not hungry, let's skip dinner. How about I make some hot chocolate and we break into your baking with a movie. I'd rather just hold you then anything else. I missed you."
She looked at him for a moment, considering that then smiled, "Like I'm ever going to say no to being with you. What movie?"
