All is not entirely well in Chez MacTaggart-Dayspring, but it's a quiet sort of unhappiness.

Rachel liked his humming. Tuneless though it might be, it seemed to appeal to her. All he had to do was hum a few bars of something and she would immediately be blinking up at him sleepily. Another few bars, and those big blue eyes closed.

Nathan smiled down at her, faintly. "Night, sweetheart," he murmured, then moved soundlessly out of the nursery, leaving the door open just a crack as he stepped out into the living room. Moira was just shutting down her laptop. "She's sleeping. For now."

"Oh good," Moira said, the tiredness in her voice obvious as she started cleaning up from the work she had been doing. "I give 'er...four hours before she starts cryin'. Wha's yer bet?" Four was stretching it for Rachel but it had been a busy day for her and she had missed one of her normal nap times, so Moira was hoping she'd sleep a little bit longer.

Nathan's eyes unfocused a little. "Longer, tonight," he murmured. "She picked up on my mood. I think she'll sleep until the melancholy goes away." He headed into the bedroom without another word, changing in silence. By the time he came back out of the washroom, Moira was just heading into the bedroom.

Silently, she slide her arms around his waist and leaned her head against his back with a sigh. "Ye okay? Stupid question but ye brood somethin' fierce an' yer stressed enough as it is."

"Okay," Nathan said, as if he'd never heard the word before. "Well, no. Not really. But I feel all right, all things considered, so I suppose that's as much as I can expect, for now." He laid a hand over hers, taking a deep breath and then letting it out again. "I'm not the only one who's stressed. I'm sorry. I seem to be making a habit of giving you gray hairs, don't I?"

"Nay yer fault," Moira retorted, rubbing her cheek against his shoulder. "We'll get through this. 'ave ye had any contact wit' th' Askani lately?" She wondered if they knew but figured that, yes, they had some awareness of what was going on. A part of her hoped they did, anyway.

"Not a word." Nathan closed his eyes for a moment, then made himself smile. "Why don't we go to bed?" he suggested, raising one of her hands to his lips and kissing it. "Like you said, we're both tired."

Letting herself be lead to the bed, she smiled at him. "Aye, we are, but I want--need--ta make sure ye're dealin' okay." Moira laughed at the look he gave her. "I'm allowed ta worry. I worried even before ye let me, rememeber?"

The covers twitched aside, as if of their own accord, and Nathan sank down on the bed with a soft sigh. His back was still not entirely happy with him this week, although it was much improved from the first couple of days after the riot. "I'm... dealing. I don't really want to think about where we go from here, what might have to be done... at least it's not an immediate problem."

"I know, 'tis 'ard ta really force yerself ta think about." Reaching over before she followed him, Moira quickly turned the lights. Shivering slightly, the sheets were cold, once she was in she snuggled up close, tucking her feet under his legs. "I'm worried."

He was always amazed by the various contorted positions she wound up in, in bed. And yet she seemed perfectly comfortable, even emulating a pretzel. "It'll get solved," Nathan said a bit hollowly. "One way or the other. Before it gets to be anything more than just... a worry."

"They're th' entire reason we finally stopped bein' idiots," Moira mused, tracing a faint line across his chest. "God, seems like 'tis been forever but it really 'asnae." She sighed again. "We'll figure somethin' out, we will."

"At least we know now. Right?" Although too often, knowing didn't make one bit of difference. Just made the truth more painful.

"Aye, we do." Moira linked her hand with his and settled down, knowing that he'd gently roll her over when he needed to. But right now, they both needed the comfort of each other and she doubted they'd move very far during the night.
