After lunch, Lorna and Paige take off for Plan A (part b). But they kidnap someone along with them who is a little confused by their insanity. It's possible they ended up in Montreal.

Lorna purred at the pretty blue car, petting the hood before coaxing the door open and slipping into the driver's seat. She liked the way the leather curved around, the way she could feel, even sitting still, the padding that would absorb the impact of any insane driving. And she really liked the sound the engine made as she turned the key and the motor caught. This was going to be so much fun.

“And then the puppy, uh, opened the door and ran down the stairs and- oh look! It’s your car and it’s conveniently started!” Paige said, Scott in tow as she merrily dragged him along, rambling about... was it a puppy now? Had she told him that they’d lost a kitten at the beginning of this story? Oh well. She’d never been a very good liar when she didn’t plan them out in advance. “And hark! There is someone in the driver’s seat! Um. Let’s go and... do something, so long as you get in the car!”

Scott blinked. Green hair, on the one in the driver's seat. "This is a conspiracy," he complained as Paige pulled him in that direction. "You're stealing my car. And me."

"It's not stealing if you're with us." Lorna sang out merrily, grinning at Scott, "Then it's just kidnapping. And since we left a note..." Lorna paused and looked at Paige, "We did leave a note, right? So that the redhead doesn't murder us when we get back?"

“Y’duh,” Paige answered, adopting her accomplice’s stereotypical way of speak as she opened the passenger side door and equally merrily shoved Scott into the car, before slamming it shut and hopping in herself. “There’s a sticky on her door. That way everyone can see!”

"So why do I warrant a kidnapping?" Scott asked more patiently, doing up his seatbelt and eyeing Lorna a bit warily. She had never driven his car before. Then again, he wasn't about to be driving his car anytime soon, was he? The thought made him sigh.

"Plan A." Lorna said, as though that explained everything and grinned at Scott. In truth, driving this car was a little nerve-wracking but really, what was the point of having an affinity for metal if you couldn't keep a little car together, right? "Buckle up." The garage finished opening and she zipped out into the snow bright day without waiting for either to follow instructions.

Paige hummed to herself as they sped along, leaning back with a blissful sigh as she very carefully propped her feet up on the back of Scott’s seat. There was nothing nicer than going really fast in a really fast car in really dangerous conditions. “We should do this all the time. Bring some tea, play a little piano solo, try to avoid road death...”

"Plan A, right." Scott leaned back into the seat, closing his eye. "You should have given me a chance to get the dressy eyepatch."

"Nonsense," Lorna said dismissively as they turned onto Greymalkin. "You look just right for Plan A. However, you're in the music seat, so no shirking your duty. We need Chopin and we need him now."

Paige sighed happily, pausing in her humming. “Lorna? If when we come back in another life, may I be your significant other please?” she asked innocently; anyone who demanded Chopin as their piano solo of choice, or even better, just for her, was worthy of love forever and ever, really.

Scott shook his head. "There's no Chopin in the car, I'm afraid," he said. "Your musical tastes and mine do not coincide, sadly."

"Sure, Paige," she responded then frowned at Scott. "Fancy car like this and you don't have Chopin? Scott, I'm shocked and horrified." That apparently translated to 'driving too slowly' because the engine purred and the needle continued to climb. "What do you have?

“Nothing, obviously. If he doesn’t have Chopin he has nothing. You are not the man I adopted as my Captain!” Paige cried, flailing her arms for good measure. “Shame on you. And yay, Lorna’s my other life girlfriend! Or boyfriend. Or something.”

"Girlfriend. I don't want to be a boy; they have to register for the draft." Lorna glanced over at Scott who looked...well, baffled was the charitable term. "You're not having fun? Relax, I'm definitely not going to kill us."

"Look," Scott said, "I went along with this because I didn't really feel like driving myself into another migraine in my office, but where precisely are we going?"

“No where, fast,” Paige answered cheerfully, leaning forward so she could rest her arms near Scott’s shoulders. “Honestly, there is no grand scheme here, sir. Just you and having fun, in this machine that I know you love because I love it. If our insane prattling if bothering you, we could probably keep quiet for a little while and let you stare out the window.”

"It's not bothering me. I just don't have any Chopin," Scott said, looking at the CD player. "I don't remember what I do have. Haven't been in the car for over a month."

"I think Paige has a color-coded map of our drive to nowhere. It amounts to around the block, pretty much. This is Plan A. Also known as find a fast car and get the hell out." Lorna smiled, some of her mania muted. "I still say it works best on PCH with the Beach Boys but Paige disagrees. Since it's your first plan A, you pick the music."

Scott leaned forward, examining the CDs for a moment before he selected one and put it in. After a moment, Johnny Cash started to sing over the car's excellent sound system.

Paige was giving Lorna worried glances in the rearview mirror when Johnny rang through and she burst into smile. Snaking her head around she kissed Scott’s cheek rather sloppily before collapsing back into her seat, telling herself that right after this she could go to just enjoying the ride, really. “There’s my Captain. Is the unfortunate boy with a girls name on this album?”

Lorna gave Paige a reassuring smile then set her attention to the tricky curves ahead--well, tricky at twice the posted speed limit anyway. But that was sort of the point. She didn't really have an opinion on the music but tapped her fingers along with it.

"Mmm. Not this one. But give it another couple of tracks and we'll be to 'Folsom Prison Blues'," Scott said, smiling a bit. "I'll have to take this CD back in with me. Been listening to more music lately since I have to limit the reading."

Leaning her cheek against the cool glass, Paige watched out of the corner of her eye the snow and trees rushing past, holding her breath until they’d reached a straight patch before doing it all over again. “I’ll send you some stuff,” she said absently, all the adrenaline from getting here suddenly gone and leaving her delightfully relaxed.

As her passengers began to relax and Johnny Cash's voice rolled easily through the car, Lorna let up on the accelerator just a bit, concentrating on the smoothness of the ride and the comfort of going absolutely nowhere. "Anyone have anything pressing to get back for?"

"Oh, no. Let the little monsters duke it out in gladiatorial combat if they want... I'm off-duty," Scott said firmly, closing his eye again.

“I’m good,” Paige answered quietly, catching Lorna’s eye again and smiling. This was good. “I scheduled a generous amount of Plan A time for this afternoon.”

"Sweet." Distances on the east coast were still confusing to Lorna. Exactly how far was it to Canada from here? Humming tunelessly, Lorna decided to find out.
