And in the end, it's really as simple as that.
"You're going to find him, aren't you?"
"Of course we are. We always find him. Always."
"Yeah. So I've heard." A pause. "I'm coming with you."
A raised eyebrow greets this statement. "Really. Well, give me a good reason as to why I should bring you along and how you'll be an asset to the team. Begin."
First finger. "One: you have no telepath. I may not be combat-trained, but I have experience. Charles can vouch for that. If you're trying to track down a missing person, there are worse assets to have than a mind-reader." The next. "Two: Nathan's told me about some of his visions. Nothing solid, but there's reason to believe he might be under some sort of coercion. As far as I've heard there hasn't been a kidnapping, and Gideon has a long and nasty history of using Nathan's powers against him. Like his telepathy. What are the odds he does it again? Want to bet Nate's life on it?" The next. "Three: I don't set foot on that plane without giving you everything you need to know in case I can't handle this. My condition's well-documented. We'll minimize the risk. If it comes down to a fight, I'll stay out of the way. But I also went mind-to-mind with an elder god without breaking, and I think that should count for something." The last. "And four: Nathan has done something unbelievably stupid, and I want to personally ensure he survives long enough for his wife to murder him.
"In summary: I'm coming with you."
"Mmm." The reply was serene, even though moving had never stopped, forcing Haller to follow the entire time he'd been speaking. "Lists. You got me with the lists. Angelo makes nice lists too," Alison added, finally stopping to give Jim a nod. "You're in. You and Angelo will be team partners during the mission, as a matter of fact, because he's coming along too. And now... what is it exactly that I need to know?"
"What to do if I have a psychotic episode." The statement was unadorned, matter-of-fact. "It's unlikely, but let's not take any chances. What I might do, how to stop me if it happens -- Moira's already put together the dossiers. I'll give them to all the COs. If you need it, the information will be there."
"Very well." Alison resumed her brisk pace, intent on being ready to go as soon as possible, and then leave a bit earlier anyway. "In the meantime, you'll need to pick up some leathers from storage. There's sets we keep for emergencies such as this, so you should be able to find something that suits you. Be ready and in the hangar ASAP."
