LOG: [Angelo, Haller] Mission begun

Sitting on the Blackbird in Rio, the two civillians have a quiet moment before setting out.




"This is . . . surreal."

Angelo glanced sideways at him. "Which part? The team bringin' us along?"

Jim grinned. "Actually, I'm still trying to process the part where we just took the big black jet to Rio. I'll work up to the team thing later." Fortunately not from the point of view of the team. Despite Alison's suggestion, he had flatly refused the leathers. Not only because it he planned to keep his involvement firmly away from the field of combat, but because there had only been one set anywhere near his size -- and it had belonged to Nathan.

Angelo chuckled. "Ah, yeah, that part is... yeah." He glanced around a little ruefully. "I've not been in the jet much. Not sure if I'm glad or not." The jet being mostly for team business.

"I'm glad. It's a nice jet. I can appreciate that, at least." Jim stuck his hands in his jacket pockets and fidgetted with his pack cigarettes. He reflected it would have been nicer if he could smoke in it, though he had the suspicion the pack wouldn't have survived it to Rio if he had. "So. You know where we're going?"

"I've got a pretty good idea. Or a place to start lookin', anyway." Angelo hadn't brought his cigarettes, for once. He could always buy another pack when they landed.

Jim nodded. "Just lead the way. I'm not much use for long-range scanning, but, well . . ." he shrugged. "It's amazing what what floats to the top of people's minds when you ask the right questions."

Angelo smiled dangerously. "That's what I'm here for. I know a whole lot about Eris in Rio."

"So I'm told. That's why they pay you the big bucks. Or should, considering what your job seems to involve." Jim paused for a moment. "Can I ask you a question, though?"

"Sure."

"Did you bring a sword?"
