After Bobby leaves, Nathan remembers he forgot to mail something.

After Bobby departed, Nathan sifted through the stack of files somewhat apathetically, not entirely sure what he was looking for. He'd lost his enthusiasm for making his plagiarist wish he'd never been born, and his focus was... elsewhere. He leaned back in his chair, rubbing at his side, his eyes unfocusing as he stared off into space. His fingers tapped out an uneven rhythm on the edge of his desk. He'd come down here to get something, something he'd forgotten after Friday...

Right. Get all caught up in recovered memories and forget everything you were supposed to be doing, Nathan thought a bit balefully, struggling up out of the chair and over to one of the bookshelves, where a large package, unsealed as of yet, was sitting.

He brought it back to the desk with him, sliding the heavy hardcover out to take another look at it. Maybe he should have wrapped it? he thought, his fingers gliding over the embossed English and Arabic lettering on the front. Then again, it had already been given once. Wrapping paper seemed kind of frivolous.

There was no note, though. And there probably needed to be. Nathan made a face, resting his chin in his hand for a minute. This should be easier.

Letterhead? Letterhead was tacky. Nathan rummaged in his desk until he found a forgotten sheaf of pale blue printer paper. He grabbed a page of that and a pen, and then proceeded to stare at the blank page for fifteen minutes.

He was getting a headache. "Gah..." Simple? Simple was good. Happy 19th birthday from Nathan, he wrote. Oh, yeah. Just like that. Rolling his eyes, he crumpled up the page and tossed it in the direction of the wastebasket.

Happy 19th birthday. Thought you might like to reread an old favorite.

No.

Happy 19th birthday. I was uncreative and am experimenting with regifting.

Funny, but no.

Happy 19th birthday. Another year and you'll be REALLY old!

Not funny. Also no.

Nathan shook his head - and then scrawled down a quick note that was several lines rather than one. He folded the paper and stuck it in the book to serve as an impromptu bookmark, then sealed the book into the package before he could change his mind.

Phone, now. He dialed the number for the courier's, rolling his eyes in increasing aggravation as he worked his way through the automated system until he finally got a human voice on the phone.

"Hi. How much if it absolutely has to be in Scotland by tomorrow?"
