More from the "evil room mates" ;)
Dec. 8th, 2003 11:05 pmAlex and Shiro do some bonding when Alex comes back from sulking and end up proving Jamie wrong about Shiro...
If anything, the past couple of days have reminded Shiro why he doesn't care much for America. Too many stupid people who walk around as if they know what's best for everyone. So he's spent most of the afternoon and evening in his room, searching for a good price for a PS2 and hoping that he can convince his cousin to buy him one for Christmas. Considering all the sacrifices I'm making to live here, it's the least he can do.
Alex walked into the room, his mood a tiny bit better then before he had gone outside. It had gotten too cold for the surfer when the sun had gone down so he had decided to return to the mansion. As he removed his coat, he shook the snow out of his blonde hair.
Sitting on his bed, Shiro looks up from his laptop and nods at Alex. "Konban wa. How are you?" Finally, an American Shiro can actually stand.
Alex looked at Shiro over his shoulder as he hung his coat up next to the door. "Eh, alright." He shrugged as he walked over to his bed and plopped down on it. "Any more attacking e-mails?"
"Fortunately no. But I think I would have just deleted them without reading them anyway. I have better ways to spend my time than read what Madrox has to say."
Alex sighed. "He meant well, just as we did." He raised a hand to face, covering his eyes for a moment before rubbing his temple. "I'm actually surprised we didn't get more. Where Jamie goes, others usually follow. Doug, Kitty and Marie Angie to be exact..."
"You make him sound like a ringleader of sorts," Shiro points out, shrugging, as he turns back to his computer to continue bargain hunting. "I wonder why he needs people to back him up, though, when he can do that himself quite literally."
Alex laughed sarcastically at that remark. "You got that right. Unlike us energy shooters...we have to do our dirty work ourselves..."
"It's the burden we bear," Shiro responds with a smirk. He keeps quiet for a moment, trying to find the right words to phrase his next question. He settles for the blunt approach. "May I ask you a question, Alex?"
"Shoot" Alex reaches over and grabs a college brochure off his nightstand, flipping through it though not actually looking at.
"You don't have to answer, but I'm curious. Whom did you kill?"
Alex closed his eyes and sighed. Jamie hadn't seemed to pick up on Alex's slip but Shiro did. "You have a right to know, but if I do," He stopped and took a deep breath, "don't tell my brother...please." He opened his eyes to look at his room mate to make sure Shiro understood how important that promise was to Alex.
Shiro looks back at him straight in the eyes and nods. "Of course." He is a man of his word, and if he says he will keep a secret, he damn well will.
Again, Alex took a deep breath and sat up on his bed, crossing his legs Indian style and throwing the brochure back where it had been. "I told you I used to live on Hawaii, remember?"
"Ee," Shiro affirms with a nod. He closes his laptop and sets it down beside him, turning around to face Alex.
"Well, I lived on my own, so to support myself, I worked as a life guard. Paid well and allowed me off to time to do what I loved best, surfing." Alex shook his head. "Anyway...one day, I was getting off my shift, my hands started to burn and before I knew, energy going everywhere and me with no clue on how to stop it. Once all the energy had been released, I blacked out. When I came to, I found out my friend Manny, who apparently was also a mutant, had gotten my sorry ass out of there during the confusion and to his parents house. They tried to hide it, but one night, I saw the evening news as they flashed the faces of the five innocent people I'd killed." Alex gave Shiro a sarcastic smile.
"So you left?" he asks. Shiro's wearing an expression on his face that few, if any, people at the mansion have seen before: sympathy. Not pity, though, he's sure not to do that.
Alex nodded, realizing Shiro understood better then anyone at the mansion what he felt. "I had to, I was wanted for murder. Manny's parents had heard of Xavier's so they were able to get me here. Damned surprised me when one of the people sent to pick me up was the older brother who I thought was dead."
"Karma, ne?" Shiro asks with a little smile. "If you're wanted for murder, you may as well get something to cheer you up. So what happened with the charges? Are you still on the run?"
OaktnOtter (8:42:02 PM): Alex did smile at that, he hadn't even thought about it that way. "You know I have no idea. Though I bet if they ever did track me down, Xavier would be able to get me off, saying I'm here learning to use my powers so it won't happen again. But yeah, don't know..."
He raises an eyebrow. "Maybe it's something you should figure out before you apply for college, ne? Not even American universities accept fugitives, I don't think."
Alex cursed softly. "Shit, your right...good thing I haven't started really looking yet."
"You're welcome," Shiro laughs. "Wouldn't want one of the few people here whom I can tolerate getting arrested because they overlooked something."
Alex laughed at this and sat back again, leaning against the headboard and streching out his legs. "I think I'll take that as a compliment."
"I meant it as one." Still chuckling, Shiro lays back again and picks up his computer. "I'll show Madrox. I'm not friendless," he says a bit spitefully.
"No, I'd say your not, cuse you got one right here. Though I do agree, that was rather rough what he said to you about that..." Alex shook his head and picked his skateboard off the floor and took a screwdriver from the dresser. "What are you looking for online?" He asked, as he began fiddling with the wheels.
\
Shiro shrugs. "I don't care what he says. I'm not here to make friends, I'm here to learn how to not become a nuclear weapon. Anoo, I'm looking for a good place to get a Playstation 2 of my own. If all goes well, I'll be able to get one for Christmas from my cousin."
"Ditto on the nuclear weapon part." Alex moved over on his bed so he could look over Shiro's shoulder. "You know, if you did, I bet I could convince Scott to let us set up a TV in here...since your not here to make friends or anything..." he said, teasing Shiro with the last bit.
Shiro smirks at Alex. "Being a loner has its charm. At least I don't have to share with people if I don't want to. Although if you're nice, maybe I'll even let you use it once in a while. Maybe."
Alex raised an eyebrow, still smiling. "Hey, I'm providing the TV remember?"
"Fine fine, if that's the case." Shiro honestly cannot remember the last time he's smiled, or at least grinned, because of another person for so long. He considers making himself a gold star for this new record. "What are you asking Mr. Summers for Christmas?"
"Asking Scott? I hadn't thought about it, probably nothing. He seems to have enough on his mind right now...Right now I just wish he'd come back so if I wanted, I could ask him." Alex sighed, but refused to let that sad thought ruin the mood. Shiro was smiling for Christ's sake and he didn't want to ruin it. "What games are you looking at?"
His smile doesn't fade, though, and he just nods. "I have a little sister, so I understand your concern. Speaking of whom, I should ask her what she wants." He opens his e-mail program and starts composing a message to Leyu. "I need Final Fantasy X2. It's getting to be a matter of life and death. I need to play it now."
"Ahh, I played Final Faintasy X at Manny's house after work sometimes. Wasn't too good at it, but it was fun to watch him play." Alex laughed at the memory of his friend bouncing up down as he played. "I bet X2 is awesome!"
"Then you can watch me when I play it. On the condition that you clean up your drool after staring at Yuna in short shorts wielding a pair of big guns." Shiro grins. Not like he's the kind of slobber over Yuna. Nope, not at all.
Alex laughed. "Agreed."
