Wanda calls Romany to ask about her Chthon issues and instead is diverted to the last person she expected.

Back at the school, Jubilee had taken the opportunity to rig Amanda's cell ringtone to the Chicken Dance. Amanda, not being hugely technical, had never figured out how to fix it. So when her jacket pocket started playing merrily, she grabbed convulsively at the phone, blushing slightly as the other people in the elevator chuckled at the incongruity.

"Hello?" she said, mindful that they'd asked Romany's partners to give anyone calling for her Amanda's number. Being the one not out in the field, it made sense.

Wanda paused in mid-finger tap. Out of all of the people... she laughed a little. "Hello, Amanda," she replied, "it's Wanda. This is a little bit unexpected, I was not told who I would be actually calling."

Hrming a little, she sat on the edge of her bed and frowned. "I was trying to get a hold of Romany." If she was being sent to Amanda then that explanation might suffice.

"Wanda?" The surprise in her voice caught the attention of the other occupants of the elevator and Amanda lowered her voice a little. "Um, give me a sec, I just need to..." The door opened and she stepped out, regardless of the fact it wasn't her floor. As the door closed again, she continued. "Sorry about that, there were people 'round." She paused, not sure if the truth was a good idea, given Wanda's X-Men status, but then again, Pete had already told the Professor. "Rom's vanished, Wanda. Pete and Remy and Betsy and me are here looking for her."

"Vanished?" If those three were tossing in their resources to find her, Romany must be in trouble. "Is everyone else all right? I went to Romany a while ago for some help and she told me to get in touch with her if I had the time. That is why I was calling."

"It happened about three, four weeks ago. She told Pete she was going to do some digging into something that might be attached to the government and that he was to come looking if she wasn't in touch after a couple of weeks." With a sigh, Amanda leaned up against a nearby wall. The hallway she was in was the same as every other hallway on the residential floors, unmarked and unremarkable. "Her partners are fine, but it looks like there's a lockdown with the magical community - whatever this is, it's got people scared." And angry - Pete was working himself into the cold stony state that meant he was really pissed off and someone was going to regret it. Big time.

"I am not surprised," Wanda said slowly, thinking this out. "Romany is not exactly a pushover. Someone managed to reach her so the magical community..." The call she made earlier was almost forgotten at this point. In the face of all of this, it wasn't
really important, simply touching base and possibly seeing if the other woman
had any ideas of where to go from here. "I was in contact with her only a short while ago, though well before this mess, do you think I could help in this? I'm not sure if you all even need another hand."

Amanda paused. "Well, 'cause it's the government, Pete didn't want the X-Men involved," she began. "Too much of a risk to the school, especially after last year." She bit her lip at the memory - the Hellfire Club had cost so much. "But I think we could use the extra body," she said at last. "Remy's down to half-strength with his leg, and I'm not good for much except research... if it comes to a fight, we'll need help."

"Count me in, then. I've just recently started back on my X-Men activities, not yet full-time, so I can easily be there when you need me to be. I am assuming that the Professor knows at least part of it and beyond him, this does not really need to get out more."

"Pete told him before he left the school." There wasn't much else to say than that, really. This was personal, at least for Pete and Amanda. "But I can't see the Trenchcoat Brigade turning you away - Pete's off making himself unpleasant to people but I'll let him or Remy know and they'll be in touch, yeah?"

"I'll keep my cell phone on me, just in case. You'll keep safe, yes?" Wanda scratched down the number she called to something a bit more sturdy than the napkin she'd originally used.

"Safe as houses," Amanda said, and then snorted. "Well, safe as hotels, any way. Don't worry about me, Wanda, I'm well out of it. And my 'Trouble' days are long gone."

At that, Wanda laughed a little. "Ahh, but there are different, better, kinds of trouble than what you found yourself in before," she teased, then switched languages, the last bit coming out in Rom, "~But still, take care and send my regards to everyone.~"

Amanda's voice caught in the sudden tightening of her throat. No-one had used that language to her for so long now. "~Thank you,~" she replied a bit haltingly. "See you in a bit."
