Nathan finds Rahne out enjoying the sun, and makes her an offer she can't refuse.

Out! Things had calmed down a little, and Rahne was taking full advantage of her break, sprawled in wolf form on the grass in a sunbeam. (It was perhaps just possible that she was being influenced by her feline roommate.) The air was cool, but the sun was heating up her fur, and it smelled like spring.

Leaning a bit heavily on his cane - all the moving around at court yesterday had aggravated the leg - Nathan made his way out to where he sensed Rahne sprawled on the grass. "Afternoon," he greeted the wolf, lowering himself down to a sitting position beside her and stretching the leg out carefully. "Beautiful day."

Rahne raised her head to nod fervently, then rolled over, sat up, and changed mostly back to human. She hadn't ever asked about shapeshifting clothing in a different style, and it was perhaps a little cool for shorts, but she didn't mind. Anyway, she could always get the fur back. "Aye, it is."

Nathan smiled. "You didn't need to change," he pointed out. "You and I don't need human vocal cords to talk." He tapped his temple lightly. "Then again, maybe it's not such a bad thing, this time..."

"I've been alternating." She looked up at him. "Tired from the last mission?"

"Not really. The leg's sore, but enh." He shrugged lightly. "It's more what I want to talk to you about, really."

"Aye? What's that?"

"A job." Okay, he might have managed a little more lead-up, there.

Rahne blinked. "Er... ye need another office assistant?" she asked. Maybe Bobby didn't have time anymore?

"I don't want an office assistant," Nathan said patiently. He needed to make that very clear to her, that he wasn't asking her if she wanted to do basic grunt work, or worse, make-work. "I'm already hiring a secretary. What I want a research assistant. Someone to do the sort of thing Angelo was doing when I first started doing this. Someone who might like research and the occasional overseas trip, and helping people..." he trailed off leadingly.

Rahne sat up a little more, resting her arms on her knees and looking at him intently. "I know enough about what ye've been doing, I think, to like the idea of helping. But I doona know that much about what Angelo started with. Ye think I'd be able...?"

"Rahne..." Nathan smiled at her, a smile full of warm affection. "It doesn't take much more than the desire to do it, to start." He hesitated. "And," he said more quietly, "the willingness to work away at it even when it gets frustrating, or unpleasant. I think you've got that in spades for anything you really believe in - and I think you could believe in this."

"I think so too." She hesitated. "I'd have to work around lessons again, come autumn..."

"You won't be the only one," Nathan pointed out, relaxing a little, real happiness in his eyes as he realized that yes, she was indeed accepting the offer. He'd wanted this very badly. He wasn't sure why. "Whatever you wind up doing gets structured around your classes. That's a given." Now he just needed to tackle Angelo about going to school, too...

Rahne's eyes shone. "I'd love to help, then."

Nathan reached out and took her hand, squeezing it. "I'm really glad," he said very quietly.

"I'm glad ye asked me."

"Elpis," Nathan said abruptly. "It's the name for the new organization. Just picked it this week. After the only spirit that got stuck inside Pandora's box?"

"Hope," Rahne said, then grinned. "The way I heard one version... the one that stuck around to help."

"I thought it was appropro," Nathan quipped lightly. "Rachel liked it. Or liked that I liked it, I'm not sure which..."

"Either works." Rahne tilted her head. "Who all else are ye thinking... that I'd know, I mean? If 'tis all right to ask."

"Well, there's going to be an office in Tel Aviv, too. I'm hiring my friends to handle that side of things, and do a lot of the field work..."

Rahne had been thinking of whether he'd ask more people from the school, if this was getting big, but it only took her a few seconds to make the connection to which friends of Nathan's might be interested in a job in Tel Aviv that involved doing a lot of field work. And there was a funny little click in a part of her mind that was often covered in fur... she might not be part of that Pack, but even as alien as most of their lives might have been to her upbringing, she'd liked them. "That sounds good." She was smiling again.

"Ani was hoping you'd take the job. I told her I was going to ask you. She likes you, you know," Nathan said with a chuckle.

"I like her too." And it was nice to hear Ani also wanted her along!

"Apparently it can't be a proper operation without the proper number of feral-types on staff," Nathan said with a grin.

Completely straight-faced, Rahne said, "That doesna mean you're hiring Logan, does it?"

Nathan blinked at her, then his eyes narrowed. "You have an evil sense of humor." He reached out and ruffled her hair. "You'll fit right in."
