Paige crept into the library, mindful of the door. It closed with hardly a sound and she mimicked that lack of noise with her own cautious steps. It wasn’t real caution, more like a mock of worry, as she tiptoed through the shelves. Peeking dramatically around a corner she found Alex exactly where she thought he’d be; in the most remote corner of the library, farthest from the door. She smiled at him, tapping her short nails along the wood. “Hey you.”

Alex was sitting exactly as Angelo had left him, curled up on the couch, watching the snow fall outside. But this time when he heard noises behind him, he didn't start. Though the voice made him shiver. "hey Paige..."

Taking his words as the only welcome she would get, Paige made her way over to him, hopping up on the opposite arm of his couch. “It’s pretty, isn’t it?”

"Peaceful is more like it." Alex feels the couch move as she sits down, but pretends not to notice. For a place he could usually be alone, he was getting alot of company. Angelo he didn't mind, but Paige made him worry slightly.

“Typical boy response,” Paige replied with a little grin. She paused before continuing. “Well, not really. Don’t know many boys who call snow peaceful. But you’re good for keeping me guessing.”

Alex raised his eyebrows at the odd response but stayed silent, staring out the window.

“Okay, so at least I know how we’re playing.” Paige obviously rambles and says exactly what’s on her mind when she doesn’t know what to say. It would be endearing if it wasn’t so irritating. She took a deep breath, held in and lets it go before trying again. “So. You think I hate you, don’t you?”

Alex just nodded, hoping if he doesn't say anything, she'd go away. But he had a bad feeling it wouldn't work..

Taking a pillow from the next chair Paige threw it at Alex’s torso, meeting her mark with ease. “Then you’re being silly. I do not hate you. Or even dislike you strongly. Heck, I don’t even dislike you weakly.”

His gaze went from the window to the floor, where the pillow had landed after bouncing off of him. Then Alex turned a confused look on Paige. "I don't understand..."

“What’s there to not understand? I don’t dislike you and I don’t dislike you. End scene.” She tilted her head at him, offering an amused smile.

Alex just shook his head, still slightly confused. "okay...I think..." Then his look turned skeptic. "Angelo didn't put you up to this, did he?"

Paige laughed, a genuine laugh that sounds much like the bells in her hair. “That sounds like him but no, no he didn’t. I’m here all on my own. Cross my heart.”

"Why?" The word was blurted out so quickly Alex didn't have time to think and he turned back to the window.

“Why not?” Paige grins and stretches a leg to kick him lightly. “Because I figured it wouldn’t be too good if you believed that I hated you, that’s why. How am I supposed to be your friend if you think I hate you, which I don’t? It makes it very difficult.”

Alex turned to give Paige a small smile. "You are insistent aren't you?" He sighed softly. "I'm sorry, I've just been on defense mood all afternoon. And I'm just a bit surprised that after all that, you still wanna be my friend"

“After all what? All my threatening to rid you of your teeth?” She slides off the arm of the couch to sit beside him, poking with her finger this time. “You kind of upset my bo- my pal so I kind of had to be menacing and I’m sorry. If you let me be your friend and someone upsets you I’ll try to injure them too.” She grins brightly. “Think of this way, Angelo still likes you so I get to still like you too! Everyone wins I say. You get to keep your teeth, too.”

Alex smiled, properly this time. "Thanks, I kind of like my teeth." With a quick movement, he picked up the fallen pillow off the floor and lightly bonked her over the head with it.

Paige giggled and jumped up to sit on his outstretched legs. “Yes, they’re good teeth. They do that biting thing.” She reached under to tickle his knees. “I like this much better. All we need now is some chocolate and we have done a very good amount of bonding I say.”

Alex gave a very unmanly squeak at the tickling of his knees. Once he managed to wiggle his legs out from under Paige, he stood up. "I know where Lorna locks all the chocolate she uses for baking and she insists on only the best. I don't think she'll mind us borrowing some, it's for a good cause afterall." He gave Paige a playful wink as he offered her a hand to stand up.

“Oh yes, this is going to be a very beautiful friendship indeed,” Paige said cheerfully, taking his hand and pulling herself up. “Beautiful and delicious. Yay, the best kind.”

Alex couldn't help but laugh at her last statement. "Aye, I believe I'll have to agree."

“Aye? Aye? Who are you and why do you have parts of our foreign students and or teachers brains in your head?” Paige teased, practically skipping down the halls as they made their way to the kitchen.

Alex laughed as he half walked and half ran to keep up with her. "When you've lived in a place that's basically supported by tourism, you pick up alot of funny words and phrases." He skidded to a stop in front of a closet just down the hall from the kitchen.

“Ah, touché.” Paige bumped into the fellow blonde from behind, obviously not paying attention to where she was going. “Oh yes, I am smooth. Chocolate now?”

Alex grinned. "Not touche, it's the truth! I learned alot more the surfer talk in Hawaii. And yes chocolate now." He pulled open the door, then stood on his tip toes to reach a metal box on the top shelf. After a few tries, he pulls it down. "And may I present, Lorna's secret stash." He flips the lid open, revealing lots of yummy chocolate varieties inside.

“Remind me to wear very tall shoes if I ever take advantage of this stash,” Paige says with a wise tone, eying the chocolate a moment before taking one and taking a bite. “Have I mentioned today that I adore you? Because I do.”

"I'm glad some people still do," Alex said around a mouth full of chocolate. He swallowed and smiled. "I was being to wonder for a while.."

“Oh, don’t be such a girl. There is a large amount of Alex adoring in this building. We’re just all hormone ridden and that equals angst. Horrible, vicious cycle.” Paige pops the rest of her chocolate into her mouth and giggles, covering her mouth with a hand. “Oh gracious, like I’m one to talk, huh?”

Alex laughed. "We're teenagers, hormones and angst are required." He held out the box for Paige to take another piece before he took one for himself then replaced it back in it's hiding spot.

“Yeah, they worry if we don’t. Send in siblings after us and what not.” Paige paused and laughed again. “I’d totally forgotten that we are the only ones who are lucky enough to have older brothers here too. Look, more in common! Why were we not best friends before again? I keep forgetting.”

Alex shrugged before laughing. "This is getting kind of weird how much we have in common."

“I should threaten people more often. I always seem to end up gaining a new friend from it. Sarah, Angelo, Jono, Warren, Alison… and now you. These are becoming good odds. I should start threatening lottery tickets or something.” Paige started walking again, to where exactly she was unsure.

"With the luck your having, I bet it would work too. Threatening is better then fighting, let me tell you that, but thankfully, Lorna and I seem to have come out of it okay." Alex laughed softly. "Though if she finds out about us stealing her chocolate...I might need some of that luck." He said teasingly.

“Oh, I’ll defend you, remember? Or I’ll be really really secretive and super spylike. Come on, let’s get away from the scene of the crime.” Paige snickered into her hand again and dashed down the hall, Alex not far behind and both of them rather conspicuous with their very loud laughter.
