Jun. 8th, 2006 01:30 pmAdmist all the chaos, Wanda feels she has to get something off of her chest and seeks out Ororo, bearing food. Decisions are made and then gossip is had, trying to escape the insanity of the outside world.
When Wanda showed up to meet with Ororo, she came bearing food. A great deal of food, actually. Grinning sheepishly, she nodded at the plates. "It has been a stressful few weeks and I've always felt that food solved a great many problems," she explained, dropping things onto a nearby table. "I'm also still building up the weight I lost from dealing with Chthon and, well, running from cultists make you hungry."
"So I've heard," 'Ro said, glancing at all the food with a rather surprised expression. She was even more surprised to find that she was hungry, though perhaps in hindsight she shouldn't have been. When was the last time I ate? Who knows...
"Thank you, Wanda, I must say I appreciate the food - and it is good to see you again as well. Hearing about your adventures made me worry you might not be returning to us at all."
"The last few months have been...interesting in the way of the old Chinese curse," Wanda agreed, sitting down and rubbing her forehead. "Just as I thought I was getting my head on straight with Chthon, up popped cultists." Dishing out the food, she frowned in thought. "As for leaving, well, that is what I wanted to come and talk to you about. I've been off active duty since the possession."
"Yes?" 'Ro kept her expression neutral as she accepted a plate, picking up a fork as well. "That is understandable, of course, and I would not ask you to return until you felt ready to do so."
"I do not think I want to return," she said softly, taking a quick bite. "The possession made me realize, more than anything, that there are things out there beyond what I am doing. And to find out from multiple sources that there are people, these cultists, helping all these sources out..." Disgust filled her voice. "I realized that my path was separating from where the X-Men lead."
Dear goddess, she's leaving? 'Ro's smile grew a little tighter. "Yes, I can understand that," she said slowly, nodding. "And you wish to devote yourself to this new direction you have discovered?"
"Yes, though..." Things were starting to click very firmly in her mind. "I know with everything that's been happening, losing someone--even though I've been off duty for several months--would be harsh. I would be happy to be put on reserve status and come in when I'm needed. I will still be living in the New York area, I've decided to go for my doctorate and Cambridge is letting me work through the college up there."
"That is wonderful," 'Ro said, relaxing a little in her seat. "Congratulations, Wanda. And yes, I think it would be a distinct possibility for you to be on reserve status... I will have to discuss it with Scott, but as long as you were willing to come back and train occasionally, I do not see why that would not be possible."
At that, Wanda smiled. "I would have no problems with that. And thank you, going after the doctorate will open a great many doors for me. And it is something I've wanted for a while. I'm not sure where I'll be located at exactly but it will certainly be within easy distance of the school." Pausing to eat for a second, she glanced up at Ororo. "How have you been lately, by the way? I know things have been...stressful, to say the least."
"It is always a good thing to pursue your goals, I am glad you have that opportunity. You will be missed here, but I am sure you will still be kept abreast of the... interesting situations that arise here." 'Ro smirked and took another bite of food, shaking her head.
"I have been well," she replied after a thoughful pause, her fork resting on the edge of her plate. "It is true, things have been stressful, but that is a part of the job... or at least it has been as long as I have been working at it." She offered Wanda a smile, tilting her head thoughtfully to one side. "And though it seems strange to say it, it has given me some perspective on my own life as well, and helped me make choices for the better, I hope."
"This place is never boring, that is certain. But at least you received perspective from it all, which certainly helps level things out in your own head when you stop and think about the stresses." Now that the hard part of the conversation was over, Wanda felt the muscles in her bit unclenching. She'd always enjoyed Ororo's company and it was a shame to let the food be eaten without some good old fashioned gossip between women. Especially given everything that had happened with Marius and Cain and...the name Cyttorak still ran through her mind but she paid it no attention. Grinning, she leaned back, this was going to be an enjoyable lunch.
