The Enemy Within: Part 6
Jun. 9th, 2006 04:37 pmIn the air, Wanda ducks into the cockpit for some quiet time with Sam. They give voice to their worries but know, in the end, there isn't much they can do.
If Wanda really cared about it, she'd have called it a strategic disappearance instead of an escape. But she wasn't really one for caring about things like that and it was an escape, for the most part, so why call it anything else? Sliding through the door to the cockpit, she smiled at Sam as she sat down.
"He seems nice enough for what he is," she said, "but he unsettles me."
Sam chuckled dryly as he kept an eye on the readouts. The autopilot was engaged, but he kept a sharp eye out in case he suddenly needed to take the controls. He cast a quick look at the cockpit door. "Far as Ah'm concerned, ya'll can strike all of it except the part where he's unsettlin'," he replied quietly.
At that, Wanda smirked a little bit, gazing out of the front of the plane at the wide open skies. Flying, the greatest freedom. "Sam, what do you make of all of this?" she asked, turning her head a little. She was honestly curious.
"Ah don't like it," was Sam's honest reply. "Ah don't trust him. Somethin' about this whole thing just sits wrong with me." Sam was a firm believer that the devil was alive and well in the world. And this...avatar...sitting in the plane made Sam very nervous indeed. For he seemed a devil made flesh, willing to promise anything for the return of his power.
"You are not the only one," she responded, relaxing in her seat. Angie was hard to read sometimes and while Sam was easier, he always seemed the type to keep his cards to his chest unless asked. It felt nice not to be the only one really worrying. "I have dealt with his 'brother', as have you on the other side of it, and I got a glimpse of this power they wield. Even shackled the way he is, Cyttorak is a dangerous being and I really do fear for when Cain gives his power back."
Sam remembered dealing with the entity that had possessed Wanda all too well. His skin still crawled when he remembered the way his blast field had solidified around him. He thanked God every day that he had somehow been lucky enough to survive that night.
"Not much we can do, though, 'cept hope Cyttorak stays honest," he mused. "It's Cain's choice, after all."
"Yes, it is. And you're right, all we can do is keep an eye on Cyttorak. I just hope that will be enough." They lapsed into silence for a while, Wanda reluctant to go back out. There would be time enough for that but right now she could enjoy the view and some non-God like company.
