Jay has a frightening vision, and confronts Sam about it to get some answers. He's left pretty much speechless.
It had started out a normalish day. Wake up, shower, breakfast, laze around, lunch. The normal routine of the high school graduate with nothing to do in the summer. So about the last thing he expected to see while he searched for a place outside to play guitar was Piotr Rasputin (and wasn't he supposed to be in California?) sucking face with a tall, built, wingless blond man.
Jay raised an eyebrow. Either Warren had gone and amputated his wings without telling anyone, or Pete had a new flame. An extremely hot one at that. As Jay took a tentative step closer, he wondered if he should ask Pete where he finds all the good men.
Until the couple pulled away to get some air, and the blond grinned mischievously as he got down on his knees and rubbed his hands all over Piotr's thighs. Jay nearly fainted.
"SAM?!"

"Sam!" Jay called, pounding on the door to his brother's suite a couple hours later. "Sweet God, please be in there and dressed. Please be dressed. Please be dr . . . Hey." He took a step back and stopped muttering to himself as the door opened, revealing Sam wearing clothes and not that awful and disturbing grin Jay had just seen a couple hours ago. "You got a minute?"
Sam frowned and cocked his head, scratching behind one ear at the frantic, slightly mortified look on his younger brother's face. "Uh, sure," he replied, making room for Jay. "Ah got a whole pile of 'em, matter of fact. What can Ah do for ya?" he asked, still entirely unsure as to what was going on.
Jay poked his head in and looked around. "Pete's not here?" Good. Taking a step in, he looked at Sam and gave him a little shove. "What the hell were you thinkin'? Out in public like that. Does Warren know? And since when are you inta guys? You can't be! Ah'm the queer Guthrie. Me!"
All right, now Sam was just plumb confused. "Huh?" he asked his younger brother. "What about Piotr an' Warren? Ah've been down in the hangar all afternoon workin' on the Blackbird." He carefully sidestepped the last part of Jay's little speech.
"You can't fool me!" Jay said, flailing. "Ah saw it. You and Pete were kissin' like, well, like me and Kyle and then . . ." He shuddered. "What the hell?"
Sam shook his head. "Piotr an' Warren are a couple. Ah wouldn't do anythin' ta put that in jeopardy. Ya know me better than that, Jay. Ah mean, Ah still carried a torch for Al, but when she made it clear she wanted ta be with Haroun, Ah stepped aside. It was the gentlemanly thing ta do."
"But Ah saw you!" Why was Sam protesting? Jay knew what he saw, and he saw Sam about to give head to Piotr. He shuddered again. "Y'know Ah understand whatcha're goin' through. Bein' in the closet, Ah mean. But you can tell me, and Ah won't tell no one. Maybe Ah can even help you."
Sam snorted. "Ah ain't in th' closet, Jay," he replied. "Ah tend toward womenfolk, but a good butt, male -or- female, will turn mah head." Time to completely shatter Jay's worldview. "Piotr an' Ah had a thing a while back, because Ah was attracted ta him. But there really wasn't anythin' else there, an' Ah think he an' Warren make a good couple. Ah wouldn't do anythin' ta get in the way of that."
That . . . wasn't what Jay was expecting. He thought that Sam would just continue to deny it, that he's straight and that's that. But this is definitely not the brother he thought he had. "Really? Well. How far didja go?" The question was out before he could stop it.
"A little bit of kissin', not much else," Sam replied. Honestly, it was a bit embarrassing now to look back at it. "Ah was attracted ta him, an' Ah thought that we'd have stuff in common, bein' from similar backgrounds an' all. But we really didn't." He shrugged. "Like Ah said. Bisexual, but Ah'm more inclined ta be attracted ta women."
"Ah don't know why Ah even asked that." Jay shook his head. This was too weird. "But can you explain why Ah saw you and Pete doin' what Ah saw? Because . . . eww." Except for not.
Sam pondered the question for a long moment. "Folk have been seein' odd things that ain't really there the past week or so. Wanda saw her brother an' such. Doc MacTaggart made a post about it a little while ago." He shrugged. "Maybe that was what ya saw."
"Hmm. What a fucked up hallucination." And now that his curiosity was satisfied, Jay just felt awkward. "Well, um, Ah think Ah'm gonna go now. Um . . . Thanks for bein' honest with me?" At least there was that much.
"Any time," Sam replied. "Ah didn't tell ya before because it's not the sort of thing ya just casually tell your brother. 'How're your classes goin' Jay? An' oh, by the way, Ah'm bisexual.'" He snorted. "Ah would've told you if you'd straight out asked me, though. Ah ain't about ta lie ta ya about anythin'. Honest injun."
"Well, can't say Ah blame you. Ah reckon Ah still wouldn't've told no one if . . . well, you know. " Jay shrugged. "Thought Momma would string me up by the thumbs iffn she knew."
"It ain't an easy thing ta tell your family, that's for darn sure," Sam agreed. "But Ah think Momma'd surprise ya. She loves all of us no matter what. An' that goes for me, too. Ah love ya no matter what," he told Jay, throwing an arm around his younger brother and giving him a bit of a playful noogie.
"Wah!" Jay swatted ineffectually at Sam to get him off. "And Ah hate you," he said, trying to hold a grimace and but failing miserably. Brushing his long hair back with his hand, he shook his head and walked to the door. "Ah'm'a gonna go find somethin' ta forget about what Ah saw so's Ah can sleep tonight." There's probably not enough bleach in the world. "See ya."
