Set a little while after this log. A bit of pure, angst-free fluff from this pair. Shocking, isn't it?

Marie sat in her room, staring at her new hair cut in the mirror.  She had felt better while out with ‘Ro, but returning to her suite had still seemed natural.  She still wasn’t quite feeling up to socializing, even if she did now look presentable.  Turning to look out the now open window, she watched a squirrel climb a tree.

"It's a pity we don't have Rachel right here," Scott said from the open doorway. "Apparently she's got an ongoing war with the squirrel population and likes to fling them."

Startled, Marie looked up at the man standing in her doorway.  The edges of her lips quirked up a bit, but not quite enough to be called a smile. “Oh really?  Ah’ll have to see that sometime.”

“She's never hurt any of them, according to her father," Scott said, coming further into the room, "but she's definitely got a thing about them. Nice hair, by the way." He smiled crookedly. "I heard you were dragged out for some girl time."

Allowing herself to smile back, Marie nodded.  “You know ‘Ro, she won’t take no for an answer when she has her mind set on something.”  Reaching up a hand to fluff her hair, she turned back to glance in the mirror. “You really think it looks ok?”

"It's cute," Scott said, then laughed softly. "I know, not precisely what you want to hear. But that kind of cut, on you, is cute."

“Ah can handle cute.  So long as Ah don’t look like Ah was blowtorched anymore,” she said wryly.  “So what brings you to my humble abode today?  Ah have a feeling it isn’t for the view.” In fact, Marie had a sneaking suspicion she was being double-teamed.

"I thought you might appreciate another outing," Scott said innocently. "Say, oh, on the back of my bike? Being in San Diego all that time, I haven't had much chance to ride her lately..."

Her eyes widened and she couldn’t help clapping her hands together in delight. She knew deep down that this was just a ploy to get her outside, but it had been forever since she’d gotten to ride on a bike.  Still, once her initial surprise wore off, she couldn’t help but hesitate.  “You sure you wouldn’t mind the company?

Scott raised an eyebrow. "Of course I'd mind," he teased gently. "That's why I asked. Because I'd mind."

“Ah just know Ah’m not the best company right now,” she explained sheepishly.  “But Ah can’t turn down a ride.”  Something inside her associated speeding down the road on a motorcycle with freedom…and she could use feeling free right about now.

Scott extended a hand. "Interesting thing, but it's hard to tell whether someone's being good company or not when you're breaking the speed limit," he said with a perfectly straight face.

Marie blinked and stared at Scott before chuckling. "Why, was that a joke Mr. Summers? If the students only knew..." Arching a brow, she reached out and took his hand.  "Well, you can't dangle somethin' like that in front of a girl and not deliver. Let's go!" Surprising herself, she began leading Scott down the hall towards the garage.

"I am patting myself on the back something fierce right this moment, I'll have you know," Scott said serenely, letting himself be pulled along.

Stopping in the middle of the hall, Marie spun around and poked him in the stomach with her free hand. "Now now, don't go getting a big...Ah mean, biggER head on me here." A devilish twinkle appeared in her eyes. "First one to the bike gets to drive!" The last word was barely out of her mouth when she took off for the garager.
