Finding Miles...
Mexico ~ late afternoon

The children were all lined up by the side of the cavern, little Amy giving her older brother pleading looks, when she wasn't directing the full impact of her tearful gaze on Alison instead. Lucinda had planted herself in the middle of the cavern's entrance, but the nine year old was hardly enough to block Alison's path, especially not while sitting down in front of a seven foot wide cavern. Ain't happening, kid. I don't know what you're hiding in there, but if Jono fainted... can't be that safe, can it? She eyed the kids. I think...

"Please Miss Alison, don't hurt him!" As soon as Amy broke down, so did the other children, each of them trying to outdo the other in begging for clemency for the "alien" they claimed they had saved. "The freak show people were so mean to him, we had to help!" "He wouldn't hurt a fly, honest!" "Honest, we're taking good care of him!" "He's not a dog stupidhead!" "Hey, don't call me that!" "He likes peanut butter and jam sandwiches!" "He's our friend!"

The chorus of voices nearly caused Alison to twitch, and she took a step back in pure self defense. That's just not fair. Geh. No wonder my Terrible Three didn't stand a chance. Oh god, Lucinda's going to cry. Not that. That's it, I'm running for it.

"I'mgoingtogocheckonwhatthatisnow, youstayouthereyouhearme!" And with a squeak, Alison turned and ran into the cave. Better some supposed alien creature that made people faint or heaven knew what else, than the onslaught of tearful childish cuteness being directed at her outside.

Despite the bright sunlight of day, the low ceiled cavern quickly descended into pure darkness, and Alison wasted no time in simply raising a hand, calling up a light which she then directed around her, very much like a spot light. The sound of the waves outside echoing through the grotto provided her with more than enough sound to power her light, never mind her internal reserves, but it was always best to not take any risks, after all. A scrabbling sound, something retreating deeper into the depths of the cavern drew her attention, and she focused her entire attention in that area, brightening the glow about her and letting it spread to her entire body as she lit up the cave briefly.

There. Back of the cave. Does sound kinda small. Light on its feet, whatever it is... Moving towards the back of the cavern cautiously, Alison blinked in surprise as her light suddenly just winked out suddenly, plunging the entire space in darkness one more. A faint rustling in the back of the narrow passage drew her attention, and she took a deep breath, wondering why the hell she couldn't even bring even the dimmest illumination forth, shifting her stance automatically just in case... and then a small wavering voice echoed barely a few feet in front of her, sobbing out pleadingly.

"Please don't hurt Leech!"
