Shiro goes down to the infirmary to get some medicine from Dr. Voght, and is frightened by what he discovers.

The medical staff was probably used to students and staff alike showing their dread in their movement as they walked down to the infirmary. But Shiro seemed to bring a whole new level to it. He moaned as the metal doors slid open to admit him and all but collapsed in the waiting chair. It wasn't so much that he didn't want to be there (though that was certainly part of it). He just felt absolutely awful. Achy, nauseous, sniffling, coughing . . . it was like flu season came early.

"Mr. Yoshida." Amelia emerged from her office, soundless as always, and gave him a brief, assessing look. "You look unwell."

"Really? And here I was thinking that I'm all ready to go out to the ball tonight," Shiro replied sarcastically. "I think the flu bug decided to give me a sneak preview on what it has in store for this winter."

"Unlikely," Amelia said coolly, laying an icy hand against his forehead for a moment and then shaking her head. "I'll go prepare an examination room. Wait here."

Shiro shivered at the touch, but nodded and tried to relax in his seat. The place was as cold and sterile and boring as ever. "Just give me a damn Benadryl and I'll be out of your hair," he muttered. There was a Geiger counter on the table next to him. Someone was having radioactive fun in the medlab and forgot to clean up after themselves, he supposed. He remembered one time when Moira was helping him test the limits of his powers, she'd measured his output with the counter. If he remembered correctly, when not using his powers it ought to barely react to him.

Then why was it clicking like he was surrounded by a whole set of red Fiestaware?

"Shiro?" Amelia asked, appearing back out of the medlab, a frown crossing her pale face. "What on earth..." She took a step closer, one eyebrow going up as she focused her attention on the Geiger counter. "My goodness," she said coolly, raising her eyes to him. "What have you been doing, young man?"

Shiro nearly jumped up from his seat, his exhaustion suddenly replaced by a sense of trepidation. The last time he'd felt like this was just before his powers returned after their short hiatus. But his powers were just fine now. Well, after a little pick-me-up, at least. But that was nothing. Just because he needed a little Kick in the morning to get things going didn't mean that he was sick or losing control.

He put a hand over his mouth, fighting the sudden wave of nausea that threatened to expel what little he had in his stomach. No, he wasn't going to lose anything now. The Geiger counter began clicking more rapidly, and he took a step back. It made sense, he realized. He was caught, and it was his own fault. "I-I need to go," he said, turning to dash out of the infirmary. Someone was going to pay for ruining him.

Amelia leaned over and took a closer look at the Geiger counter. "Not good," she murmured, and then closed her eyes, thinking very loudly in Charles's general direction.
