x_cyclops: *knocks on door*
x_storm: "Come in." Storm's sitting on her bed, currently chewing on leftover Indian food. Unheated leftover Indian food.
x_cyclops: *opens door, peeks around corner*
x_cyclops: "You okay? Want to talk?"
x_storm: She waves a plastic fork towards one corner of the bed. "Hello, Scott. Want some slightly stale naan?" Shaking her head, she sighs. "Okay, yes. Happy? No. And... yes, actually."
x_storm: "Are /you/ okay?"
x_cyclops: *enters, closes door, leans his head against it* "Was it this hard before Stryker? And if it was, why don't I remember it?"
x_cyclops: *then, heads over to the naan*
x_cyclops: *doesn't sit, paces a bit after picking up the bread and pulls pieces off to nibble at*
x_storm: Storm grins faintly and stretches her feet out. "Because the human mind is an infinitely adaptable thing." She gives the question due consideration. "It may not have been easier, but it was a /whole/ lot quieter."
x_cyclops: *rolls his eyes, though she can't see it*
x_cyclops: "That's for sure."
x_storm: "And maybe I am being arrogant, again, but I don't think we were /ever/ as young or as... reckless... as some of these children."
x_cyclops: *snorts* "I know I wasn't." *ponders* "Then again, we had different backgrounds from most of them."
x_cyclops: "We were probably more like Sarah."
x_storm: One white eyebrow quirks up. "Why, Mister Summers, could you possibly be refering to the fact that we went through /real/ tough shit as children?" She pauses, and spears a bit of Malai Kofta. "Or Marie. I like Marie."
x_cyclops: *nods* "I like her too. She ... she's done real well."
x_storm: Storm closes her eyes and sighs. "You know... she reminds me of Jean, a little. Sometimes."
x_cyclops: *smiles softly* "Yeah, I can see that."
x_storm: "I know this is horrible, but sometimes I just want to /shake/ some of these kids. Even the ones she never met. But I know she would have laughed at me for it."
x_cyclops: *moves to sit on the edge of the bed* "Yeah. I think some of fhem need a bit of shaking too. You'd have thought, those that were here for Stryker, they'd not need it."
x_cyclops: *shakes his head* "But maybe it's just me. I know *I* need shaking every now and then."
x_cyclops: *looks up at Storm* "Promise me you'll do that when I need it, okay?"
x_storm: Laughing, she shakes her head. "I promise. But you and Charles are about the only people I /haven't/ wanted to beat some sense into these past few weeks. But... when you need it, I'll be there. Same goes for me."
x_cyclops: *nods* "Thanks." *takes another piece of naan, again with the tearing and nibbling*
x_cyclops: "So, approve of the team choices?"
x_storm: "Damn straight." She /grins/, widely. "Especially since I really don't think you want Logan on your team."
x_cyclops: "Not particularly, no." *smiles* "He's not good at taking orders *pauses* from me."
x_storm: An amused smirk crosses Storm's face. "No comment. ... and I feel personally responsible for Kurt. Marie, I like - and Bobby, too. In his case, I'm pretty sure that was just a phase gone through at lightspeed, there."
x_storm: After a moment's thought, she adds, "Dibs on Everrett when he graduates."
x_cyclops: "I hope so. From what I've heard, with his parents, and then John leaving - it's understandable. And I think he'll be better off in the long run."
x_cyclops: "If he can hold together that far."
x_storm: "He will." She nods firmly. "He will make it. So will Allie, once you teach her some control. Teresa. Sarah. Jonothan, too, I think, although I have yet to see much of him. Jamie... may not ever be part of the team. Kitty -- ... I don't even want to /think/ about Kitty."
x_cyclops: *shakes his head* "Did she say anything?"
x_storm: "Barely a word. I /know/ this is... something more than just dislike of Warren, but - it's like she's deliberately flaunting the code. She breaks into someone's room, which is bad enough, /and/ to pull a stunt like that? I don't understand it, at all."
x_cyclops: *nods* "Something is going on, deeper. And I think it might have ... well, it's nothing more than a guess, really."
x_storm: She just waits and raises an eyebrow.
x_cyclops: "But based on what I've been seeing, it may have to do with Piotr."
x_storm: "... oh, /shit/."
x_cyclops: *nods*
x_storm: Storm /groans/. There's no other word for it. "I hope you're wrong. I mean, why would Kitty having a crush on Piotr make her...."
x_cyclops: "Have you been reading their journals? Something is up with Sam and Warren and Piotr. Plus, what Kitty wrote in hers the other day..."
x_storm: She shakes her head. "I admit I have been... avoiding some of that. I overdosed on teenaged romantic angst with Bobby and Em, and I am /far/ more sympathetic to the two of them."
x_cyclops: "We're full of the teenage angst here. And some post-teenage, too." *actually grins*
x_cyclops: "But that's what you're bound to get at a school, mutant or otherwise."
x_cyclops: "Anyway, I think Jamie provided an outlet for Kitty. It's not right, but it was there."
x_storm: "Right." Storm rolls her eyes. "How old is Sam? Twenty-four? Spirits. I think we may need a dating policy."
x_storm: She mulls this over. "... if she was acting out of jealousy, I think I'm even more disappointed than I already was. Especially to /Warren/ - you have to admit, even when he was nursing that crush on Jean he was never anything but completely fair to you."
x_cyclops: "Again, I have no real proof, but it's likely. She's definitely one who needs to be shaken." *snorts* "Maybe Betsy should talk to her?" *curious*
x_storm: "Hrm. Or Charles. Or /both/. ... speaking of Betsy - you know, depending on how long it takes some of them to graduate, we may be needing a third team soon. I suppose the logical choice for a leader would be Logan, just in terms of combat experience, but... what about Betsy?"
x_cyclops: *pauses, considering* "I think she'd make a good leader. She may resist though, because of her blindness."
x_cyclops: "She has the right qualities I'd pick. She's a good judge of character."
x_storm: Storm shrugs and grabs a piece of naan herself. "True. I would suggest Henry, or Emma, but... well. Hank. Emma. It's too bad we can't /do/ something about that, though - the blindness."
x_cyclops: "I think Kitty needs a confidante. Jean would have been my first choice. I think Alison is .. well, not quite a teacher yet."
x_cyclops: "I'm sure Essex would be willing to try." *sarcasm drips off Scott*
x_cyclops: *looks at Storm* "Why, in God's name, is he /here/?"
x_storm: "Jean would have been my first choice for a /lot/ of this. ... it was so much easier when I had to just be the Bad Cop and disciplinarian..." Catching the sarcasm, Storm smirks back. "You are asking /me/? I am about one more self-consciously Darwinist post away from storming into Charles' office and asking him what crack he has been smoking."
x_cyclops: "Let me come with you. Hmm...does this mean he'd be off the list of people you want to shake?"
x_storm: "... only if he can not give me a /very/ good explanation."
x_cyclops: "Agreed."
x_cyclops: "So, if Betsy declined, do you want to put Logan in charge of a third group? Or someone else?"
x_storm: "Good question. Actually, maybe Betsy /and/ Logan. Co-leaders. Or possibly Betsy with Sam as second. Switch Emma into your team, so you have a telepath when necessary."
x_cyclops: *rolls eyes, again behind the visor* "Okay. But only because I think putting Logan and Emma on the same team would be very nearly the worst possible thing we could do to the rest of that team."
x_storm: "I get the feeling she might have less objections if we pointed out she was /sharing/ responsibility. Other than that - actually, if he'd be willin, Pete." Storm grins a little. "Don't worry. I plan on switching Logan off my team only as a last resort. /I/ can handle him. I'd say maybe something like Logan, Kurt as second in command, Sarah, Jonothan, and Everrett, but that is probably just a /little/ bit too much like 'welcome to the freak team'."
x_cyclops: *grins as he nods* "I think Kurt will make a good leader some day. He's really adjusting well here, isn't he?"
x_cyclops: "What about Jubilee? Or Lorna?"
x_storm: "Mm-hmm." Storm smiles, albeit briefly. "He is. Actually, come to think of it, I don't want to shake him, either. .... hm. Jubilee and Logan. That would work. Maybe Lorna, too. Maybe even Jamie: at least being on the same team as Logan would be a crash course in reality."
x_cyclops: "Jamie could use one. He's really a good kid at heart, but ... well, he's been well-protected. A healthy dose of reality would be good for him. Shocking, but good."
x_storm: "I noticed that - the well-protected. It worries me, honestly - all of this worries me. I mean - am I reading my own views into things, or are the kids really sort of pairing off into the white-bread, middle-class, mostly-normal kids - Jamie, Kitty, Rahne, Terry, Allie, Sam... and then the not-so-normal kids - Sarah, Em, Jono? With poor Bobby and Ev stuck in the middle - not that the not-so-normals /have/ the same kind of social cohesion."
x_storm: "Add Jubilee and Lorna to that, too, come to think of it. The not-so-normal."
x_cyclops: "No, I don't think you're reading that much into it. Terry does have an ... unusual background, for all that. But like attracts like."
x_cyclops: "I'm not a people-person. Maybe we should ask Betsy or *tries not to shudder* Emma for some advice. Or the Professor."
x_cyclops: "Other than team-building activities, of course. Those I can do."
x_cyclops: "But that doesn't get to the socialization aspect."
x_storm: "That is an idea, although... Charles is so busy these days. I just - worry. Especially because for some reason, I'd much rather have any one of the not-so-normals with me in a fight than the... good children. Maybe we should have /Pete/ teach something. Because at least they'll be united in hating him."
x_cyclops: "Not a bad idea. He'd be all for it I think, and it could work."
x_storm: "Yes: Sabotage and Alcoholism 101, with Professor Wisdom."
x_cyclops: *grins* "Though, I understand there's a lot of hate on for Logan because of his class."
x_storm: "That will last exactly up until the first time the school is attacked again."
x_cyclops: "I think I may offer an alternative. Not that he isn't the best at what he does, but others may need to learn from someone else."
x_cyclops: "And we do want /all/ of our students to be able to defend themselves."
x_storm: "... do you really want to get into a pissing match with Logan? And this is - they need to learn to suck it up and deal. If we let them switch, that's essentially telling them that in the real world, people pull their punches. Anything else, I would agree, but this is the one course I think we /need/ to have Logan teach. Anything less would be a disservice. They /will/ learn. Eventually. All of them."
x_cyclops: "Alison got kicked out today."
x_storm: "Yes, I know." Storm nods, slowly. "But she /will/ be back."
x_cyclops: "But not yet. I don't want to get into a pissing contest with Logan. But is the point to get them to be able to defend themselves, or that there is only one way to do things?"
x_storm: "... all right. A point. But I think /after/ they get used to the idea with you, they go into Logan's class. I've actually -- I don't want to ask this of him, but I don't think i have any other choice."
x_cyclops: "I don't have a problem with that."
x_storm: "We know how strong his healing factor truly is, now. I think once the kids have mastered things with their powers dampened... we let them at him with them on."
x_cyclops: "He's got more experience with this, I won't contest that. But not everyone is ready for that yet."
x_cyclops: "Good."
x_storm: Storm sighs and glances towards her window. "They are going to have to be, soon, I'm afraid."
x_cyclops: *is quiet for a time, thoughtful*
x_cyclops: "Ororo, I... we need to make sure that everyone has someone, an adult, that they can talk to, about anything. But especially about problems they might have with their powers."
x_storm: "... mutant therapy? I think you're right. But the question is, how do we do it? Do you really think Jonothan or Sarah is going to jump up and down at the idea? And if we have to /assign/ them confidantes, that will just make the whole excercise null, because they'll clam up. I like the idea, though."
x_cyclops: "No, I know that we can't force it. But ... " *gets up, starts pacing again*
x_storm: Storm tracks Scott's movements across the room. "Make a 'suggestion', and send everyone who resists to Charles? I.... hrm."
x_cyclops: *laughs, short and sharp* "I suppose that should go for the adults, too. Though I'd hope they'd all go to Charles..." *stops, turns to face Ororo*
x_cyclops: "Jean was having trouble with her abilities before she died."
x_storm: She raises her eyesbrows. "Exactly what do you mean by 'trouble'?"
x_cyclops: "Do you remember, at the museum, when the monitors went all crazy? I am pretty sure she caused that."
x_storm: ".... what?"
x_storm: "Scott, /please/ tell me that's just a guess. Please."
x_cyclops: "She was having nightmares. And her telekinesis had grown exponentially." *laughs again, bitterly* "Wish I could."
x_cyclops: "We'd lost a number of lamps during the night, before all that..." *waves hands* "I tried to get her to talk to the Professor, but she'd waved it off."
x_storm: Storm winces. "Shit. /Shit/. ... .... Do you think that's why she -- do you think she was trying to make up for it?"
x_cyclops: "I was going to talk to him that night, no matter what she said. Then there was the whole thing with the White House, and going to see Magneto..."
x_storm: "... and he's been in Cerebro practically twenty four hours a day..."
x_cyclops: *shrugs* "I think the reason she left the Blackbird was because she thought the engines shut down because of her."
x_cyclops: "I do know, as do you, that they were only minorly damaged from what Em had done to get the jet to us."
x_cyclops: "They just weren't responding. And then everything went out. No reason."
x_storm: Sitting up, Storm curls up in a ball, hugging her knees to her chest. "Oh, /Jean/. I -- she would have. She would have known. And of course she would have taken responsibility for it. Of /course/."
x_cyclops: *paces again, energy coming from out of nowhere and having nowhere to go* "If she'd stayed in the jet, she wouldn't have had enough power to get us away. And the engines wouldn't have come back online."
x_storm: Storm just sits and lets him pace.
x_cyclops: "And so .... she left the jet."
x_cyclops: *really looks like he wants to pound the wall, or someone, or something*
x_storm: "And you feel like you should have done something to prevent it."
x_cyclops: "I'm full of 'if only's.'"
x_cyclops: *smacks his fist into his hand, rather than Storm's wall*
x_storm: Storm gets off the bed and crosses the floor. "Use the wall. It's taken worse."
x_cyclops: "No, it'd just hurt my hand more, and I don't have Logan's healing factor."
x_cyclops: *looks at Storm* "You up for the Danger Room?"
x_storm: She nods, then shrugs. "That or just finding some nice trees to obliterate out on the grounds. Sometimes there's nothing like the real thing."
x_cyclops: *ponders* "Might work. Though we'll need to replant whatever we destroy."
x_storm: "Up to you. Danger Room works, too, I'm just more in a mood for mildless destruction than actual fighting. Logan's burned me out."
