Marie needs an escape from the mansion; Clarice is only too happy to provide her a reason to visit for the weekend.
OOC: Posted early since I may not have access later
Marie had a duffel bag on the bed and was tossing clothing into it with none of her usual organization. She needed to get away from the mansion – things had started to settle down a bit, but she still felt overwhelmed and needed a weekend away from the crazy. She hadn't felt this close to breaking in a while and she was damned if she was going to let it happen now. A quiet weekend away was exactly what she needed and she was thankful that Clarice had been willing to help.
"Whenever you're ready," Clarice said, lounging comfortably in an oversized chair, her booted feet carefully not on the upholstery. "Homecoming has been really fun all week, so I bet the weekend will rock too."
"That should do it," she said as she threw a pair of gloves into the bag. "Can't imagine I'd need more than that for hanging out." She grabbed an elastic off her desk and put her hair up into a ponytail. "Let's go," she said as she grabbed her bag in one hand and her purse in the other.
"Awesome! I told you my roommates are going to be gone, right? So you get your own bed. Not that we couldn't share mine, if we had to, but really, much more comfortable this way. Unless you want to start some interesting rumours...?" Clarice trailed off, a wicked gleam in her eye. She liked guys, but she also liked to push people's limits and comfort zones. A lesbian (or bisexual) mutant rumour would do that.
Marie laughed as she shook her head. "Thanks for the offer Pixie, but Ah think me sharing a bed with anyone is a bad idea for the time being." She walked over to where Clarice had risen from the chair, waiting for the girl to open a teleportion disk. Taking a deep breath, the brunette stepped through the purple disk, blinking as she emerged in Clarice's dorm room.
"I'm not worried about sharing a bed with you," Clarice replied seriously, taking Marie's bag and placing it on the bottom bunk. Her own bed was a loft without a bed underneath, she had her desk under there instead. "But not your toothbrush. That's just nasty!"
"Well you should worry," Marie replied equally seriously. Tossing her purse on an empty chair, she shook her head. "Man, Ah promise Ah'll stop...Ah've just been in such a funk."
"This is a non-serious weekend, if you can't handle staying up all night to build a float for the parade, a football game and other goofy homecoming things, then I'm sending you back to your cage!" Clarice began rifling through her dresser, pulling out a red sweatshirt with a large M on it, "Here, you can borrow this!"
Marie's hand closed around the sweater, though she wrinkled her nose at it. "A float? You've got to be kiddin' me. Since when have you had this much school pride? Don't tell me you've joined a sorority too...next thing you'll be telling me that we've got to go meet Chip and Brad over at the sock hop."
Clarice rolled her eyes, she'd campaigned for school sports teams off and on for three years and Marie wondered about her school spirit? Besides, she had also been on her middle school dance team and performed at their football games, "Well, it's not like Xavier's has alumni to come home, they all still live at the school. And a parade of one, with no school band or drill team, cheerleaders, or anything is kinda lame. The homecoming dance was last Wednesday though, I went. It was fun in a lame tv-dance sort of way, but it was normal. It was fun."
Football games and dances and everything else in that realm had left Marie's world the day she kissed Cody. Maybe it was about time they came back into her life. "Normal," Marie echoed. "Sounds grand." She tossed the sweatshirt next to her duffel. "Let's go make a float."
"Woot!" Clarice jumped up, doing a little happy dance. "I promised my RA that I'd help. We gotta guard it too so other dorms don't copy it or steal our idea, or worse. Destroy it! Thankfully, the parade is really early tomorrow morning, so we can sleep all day before the game!"
Marie shrugged. "Not like Ah ever sleep much anyways. But yes," she said as a silly smile started to spread across her face. "We must protect this float!" She brandished her hand like a sword, waving it in the air. "We shall take no prisoners and maintain the pride off...whatever the heck dorm this is."
"Hagerstown. It's very British sounding. We have to protect against Ellicot and La Plata, they're the other two dorms that make up the quad. And there's free pizza," pizza was always good, especially when it's free.
"Well, why didn't you say so? Ah'm sold." She winked at Clarice. "Didn't you know that the words free food will get a college student to do just about anything?" Something caught her eye one of the desks and Marie suddenly burst out laughing. "Your...mascot...is...a....turtle," she cried out gleefully between gulps of air.
"Mwar," Clarice replied, pulling out her own sweatshirt, a black one with a turtle standing up on it, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, honey. Heros on the half shell. Explains why I'm here." she grinned, their mascot was goofy, but it beat the Scottsdale Artichokes.
That only sent Marie into another giggle fit. "Turtle power!" She wiped away the water coming from her eyes from laughing so hard. She gestured to the door. "Lead the way Donatello, we've got some pizza to eat."
