Still no log from the accident itself, but here's some aftermath stuff. In one post to save space and effort on my part.

LOG ONE: Set Saturday Morning when Alex first wakes up and finds Shiro in his room changing the IV

Shiro had spent most of Friday learning from Dr. McCoy how to help out with Lorna and Alex in the med lab. Nothing too difficult, so he picked up quickly and soon enough was working on his own, allowing Dr. McCoy a bit of rest. And on Saturday morning, Shiro went straight down there after breakfast to see how Alex and Lorna were doing. Both were unconscious. Sighing, Shiro changes all of Lorna's various bags before going over to Alex's room to change his.

Alex groaned softly as he stirred, his eyes blinking from the bright lights of the room. He looked around, his tired mind confused. Where was he? It took him a few more moments to recognize the med lab and the memories of why he was here came flooding back. Alex closed his eyes and groaned as he lay back, fighting tears.

Shiro starts at the sound of Alex groaning, quickly turning around to find its source. No one else is in the room, but . . . the blond boy's eyes are moist. "Alex?" Shiro asks softly. "Are you awake?"

Slowly Alex opens his eyes again and looks around till they fall on Shiro. He hadn't even noticed he wasn't alone. "Yeah," He replied softly, "I'm awake."

Shiro can't help but smile in relief. He finishes with the IV bag, then pulls up a chair and sits down next to Alex. "How are you feeling? Is there anything I can get you?"

Alex fights to sit up but is just too tired, so stops trying. "I feel like I could sleep for a week, but besides that alright." Then a thought popped into his head. Fire. Lorna. "Did anyone get caught in the blast?" He asked, trying to be casual about it to still his own fears.

"Dr. McCoy says that you should rest because that is the only thing you need at this point." He looks away when Alex asks his question, though, unsure of how to answer. The truth never hurt, right? "Yes," he answers quietly, still looking away. "Ms. Dane was hurt. She's . . . in the other room right now."

Alex swallowed hard at Shiro's response. No. Please no. He couldn't meet Shiro's gaze so he turned his eyes to look where his hands were fiddling with the blanket. "Is...is she," he paused to take a deep breath, "How is she?"

"Not so well. She's burned pretty badly." Shiro finally looks up and sees Alex's face. Oh, nicely done, Shiro. "She will get better soon, though. Dr. McCoy is looking after her. It's nothing a few days in the infirmary cannot heal."

Alex closes his eyes again, memories of seeing the burned faces of his victims from Hawaii on the news haunting him as his mind created an image, blending those horrid memories and Lorna's beautiful features, now not so beautiful. "What have I done...?" He asks to no one in particular.

"It's not your fault!" Shiro says immediately, his voice hardening. "These things happen to every mutant with powers like ours. You could not control it."

"That's exactly it..." Alex's eyes flew open, his own voice hardening in defense. "I should be able too! I can't keep hurting people like this! Not people I love..." He sighed, calmer now. "This shouldn't have happened..."

"No, it shouldn't have." Shiro stands up, unable to stay seated any longer. "In a perfect world, everyone would have their powers under complete control and we would never have such problems. Hell, in a perfect world we probably would not even have such power. But it's not perfect. Mistakes happen. And I really do not want to waste my time with someone who does not understand that, okay?" Shiro sighs, and leans against the wall across for Alex's bed. "Look. I understand what you are thinking right now, but it's not going to help anyone. The best you can do right now is rest, and when you feel better, you will get better training so this will not happen again. And Ms. Dane will be well, I assure you."

Alex just stared at Shiro wide eyed through out his entire speech, realizing it all made perfect sense, but didn't really want to admit it. When Shiro was done, Alex did the last thing he was sure was expected of him. He smiled, softly, but he smiled. "Your right Shiro...I hate to say this but you are right..."

Yes, it was definitely the last thing Shiro expected. He was all ready for a dispute that would involve shouting and yelling and probably some breaking. But Alex's response is a pleasant surprise, so Shiro just smiles a bit. "Yes. I know I am. I would not have said it otherwise."

"I'm sure; you’re not the type to waste words. I'm sorry, I'm just really worried and really tired and those two are not a good mix at the moment." The smile had done just what Alex had wanted, gotten Shiro off the subject, because Alex too had been expecting alot of shouting and yelling if it had continued and he wasn't up for that right now. Maybe later.

"I know you're worried. When I ex . . ." Shiro is about to say 'exploded' and relate the tale of his horrible ordeal with thermonuclear powers, but stops himself, not wanting to get into it right now. Maybe later. If ever. "No. Just go back to sleep. I'll tell Dr. McCoy to leave you some real food for later."

Alex takes note of the unfinished sentence but doesn't pry. He knows how painful that is, plus he was tired, very tired. "Food would be ideal at this point, but more sleep doesn't sound so bad either." He pauses for a moment then adds. "Thanks Shiro."

Shiro shakes his head. "There is no need to thank me, Alex. I'm just doing what I should. Rest well. I'll come by to see how you are feeling later. Ja ne." With another small smile and a wave of his hand, he leaves the room to find Dr. McCoy and continue his duties with Lorna.

Alex sighed softly and curled himself into a ball. Despite Shiro's words, he still couldn't help but feel awful. Maybe it was because he was tired, maybe not, but despite it all, he cried himself to sleep.

OOC: And yes, we are planning for that "maybe later" conversation when Alex comes back *grins*

This one set after this post.

LOG TWO: Set Sunday Afternoon. Angelo comes to see how Alex is holding up. The small talk becomes almost painful and Alex begins to think of his escape.

Alex sighed as he turned the page of the book he was reading. For an active child such as himself, being stuck in bed was boring as hell. Plus, being active allowed him to think of other things...rest only allowed his mind to wonder downstairs to the med lab...

Angelo headed over to his old room and tentatively knocked on the door, having been told that Alex was no longer in the med lab.

Thankful for a distraction from the page in front of him, Alex looked up at the knock. "Come in," he called, "Door's open."

Pushing the door open, Angelo walked into the room and sat down on what had once been his bed. "Hey", he said quietly. "Thought you might need someone to talk to."

Alex sat up on his own bed, crossing his legs so he was sitting Indian style facing Angelo. "Yes, this required resting thing is kind of boring after a while...but that's not what you can here to talk about, is it?"

"Only if it's what you want to talk about" Angelo answered, not wanting to push the issue.

Alex smiled softly. He was glad Angelo wasn't going to push the subject. "How's your mom?"

Angelo smiled suddenly, brightly. "She's fine. It was so good to see her again - I owe Em big time. Did you know she was here, by the way?"

He nodded. "Yep, we all couldn't wait for you to get home for the big surprise..." Alex has to stop himself before adding that he afraid he might have ruined it.

Angelo grinned. "Good job keeping it a secret, I had no idea Em was doing more than going to talk to her..."

Alex shrugged. "You had a rough time recently, you needed a pleasant surprise..."

Angelo nodded. "No argument there." He paused, before asking carefully, "How are you doing, man?"

Alex winced slightly and looked away. "Alright...alright as I can be I guess..." Then he turned desperate eyes on Angelo. "Is she alright? Anything changed?"

Angelo shrugged helplessly. "They're still not letting many people in there. Her parents, I think, and Alison, but nobody else. So... I guess... she's not awake yet. Don't know for sure, though." He sighed, hating to have to deliver that news, before adding, "She'll be fine. You know?"

Alex smiled softly. "You sound like Shiro." He sighed and leaned back against the wall. "I know she will be, I just...I still worry ya know? I love her and I don't..." he paused a moment searching for words. "I don't want to lose her. I've lost too many people already, I don't think I could bare it again." He looked up at Angelo. "You know what I mean..." that was a statement, not a question.

Angelo looked at him, not smiling. "Yeah. I do. But you are *not* going to lose Lorna. Okay?"

Alex nodded. "Okay."

The silence in the room was deafening. This subject was painful for the two of them and Alex thought a moment for how to change it. "How's Alison's new charge settling in?"

Angelo grinned suddenly at the reminder. "Well, I think. Even if he still won't let her out of his sight for a minute."

That thought brought a smile to Alex's features. "I always saw Alison as the motherly type, so I'm sure she loves it."

"I think she's actually adopted him, or she's going to", Angelo remarked. "She mentioned something about it on the way back."

"Yep, defiantly the motherly type. Miles is a lucky kid." Alex sighed sadly, but still had a soft smile. "I feel bad for anyone who so much as gives that kid an odd glance."

"Quite right", Angelo says grimly. "They'll have half the school to contend with before they can blink - including me and Sarah."

"Sarah?" Alex blinked. "Now that's a surprise..."

"Oh, yeah, of course, you don't know", Angelo said, remembering. "Turns out the kid was a Morlock. Nobody's quite sure how he got from the tunnels to Mexico, let alone how he survived..."

"A Morlock....really? Well, that's certainly interesting." The last statement couldn't help but remind Alex of his own journey when he was younger. "You'd surprised how well kids can mange... Speaking of Mexico, how was it?"

"It was good", Angelo answers with a genuine smile. "I don't think Jono wants to kill me anymore", he says only half-jokingly.

Maybe I'll head there then...Alex smiled too, as much at Angelo's response as to hide his thought. "Well that's a defiantly a plus dude...and did you mend things up between you and Paige?"

"Think so, yeah", Angelo answered. "We're good."

"Good. Jono doesn't want to kill you and you and Paige are good. I'd say the trip was a success then."

Angelo laughed. "Think it's safe to say that, yeah."

Alex smiled but thought, I hope mine is as successful..."So what else have I missed whilst sleeping way to much for my own good?"

Angelo paused, thinking. "Not a whole lot, I don't think. Mexico, Miles... have you met the new guy yet?"

"What new guy? I thought Miles was the new guy..."

"Shinobi. He arrived while I was gone..."

Alex shook his head, yawning slightly as he lay back down on his bed, though his head was still turned toward Angelo. "Nope, not yet, though Shiro has high praise of him. I was going to seek him out the night before you all came home but I was busy..." He didn't add 'with Lorna' but his face fell slightly.

Angelo noticed the change in tone, and especially the unfinished sentence, and looked sympathetic, but remained silent, unsure of what to say.

Alex noticed the Sympathetic look and shook his head. "Don't..." but his voice cracked and he looked away. "Don't be sympathetic...This is my fault and I know it. I should have tried harder to control them...taken Scott and Tabitha up on their offers more...I was just too afraid and now look what I've done..." Alex sighed and buried his head in his pillow.

Angelo lifted a hand as if to reach out to Alex, then let it fall. "Alex... this wasn't your fault. You don't even know that more lessons would have changed anything, not for sure."

"Exactly, I don't know...but it's what I'm here for right? To control these damn blasters...and I can't even do that." Alex looked up at Angelo

"You're here to *learn* to control them", Angelo corrected gently. "Can't expect to do it overnight."

"Is learning supposed to involve almost killing people, because then I think I missed something in high school..." Alex winced at the sarcastic remarked that just popped out of his mouth. "Sorry, I didn't mean that...exactly."

Angelo didn't seem fazed. "No problem, man. You're allowed to be upset, you know."

"I am, don't worry about that. Just not used to talking about being upset is all..."

"You're allowed to do that, too", Angelo said quietly.

"Yeah," Alex replied softly, "I know..." He yawned again, to mask the tears in the corner of his eyes. "I think I'm going to get some rest..."

Angelo looked at him in concern, but didn't want to outstay his welcome. Getting up, he said firmly, "Don't forget your own advice, okay? Talk to people. Me, or Shiro, or whoever you want. Just... somebody."

Alex gave him small smile. "Advice is so much easier when you’re giving it then when your taking. And I will...promise." I wonder if the people in Mexico are good listeners...?

Angelo smiled back, unconvinced but trying to be reassuring. He headed for the door, turning back in the doorway to repeat, "She'll be fine", before slipping out.

"I hope so...when I'm gone I know she will be" Alex whispered to the empty room before burying his head back into his pillow.

"She will get better soon, though. Dr. McCoy is looking after her. It's nothing a few days in the infirmary cannot heal."

*throws up hands* Obviously I have not yet employed enough synonyms for "almost died."

*reminds self to hand Shiro several lengthy articles on severe burn treatment and recovery*

Well, yeah, but when your friend wakes out of a coma to find out he blew up his girlfriend, what are you supposed to say?

"Oh yeah, you fried her good, bro. She's one crispy critter. They're preparing the dipping sauces now."

:P

Mmmmm.

It isn't the "she'll get better" part that bothers me, it's the "nothing a few days won't heal" part. Respect for my abilities is one thing, but if I were able to work that kind of miracle I suspect I'd be answering to a somewhat higher authority than Professor Xavier.

And anyway, who ever heard of blue fuzzy angels?

How ironic, considering that Lorna is the resident chef.
