Bobby's better. Terry's gleeful. Backdated to Monday

It had been more than a week. More than a week of sleeping alone and waking alone. More than a week of bundling up just to get a hug and being careful not to let her skin touch ice for too long. More than a week of worrying and wondering and enduring well-meaning reassurances that this was nothing and he would be fine. Terry knew that there was some kind of progress being made but really, she didn't care about the science. She just wanted her husband back.

Bobby's days had been filled with lots of waiting, lots of tests, and lots of tried and failed techniques, but finally they managed it today. He'd turned back from ice to flesh, and while the explanation of how and why he'd managed it was far over his head, it had been frustratingly simple to effect. He was sure he could do it again--if he ever became ice again. He still wasn't quite sure how he'd managed that feat, although he was certain Moira and Amelia (and Paige and Forge and...) would want to run more tests and figure out both ends of it. Probably smart, really. It would be better to know than to have it randomly happen on a mission.

He was half-sitting, half-lying on the bed, waiting for Amelia to clear him to leave the medlab, at least for the time being, when he heard the door opening.

Terry slipped inside, looking more over her shoulder for signs of imminent Russians than at Bobby. She started to speak as she eased the door closed and turned back to the bed. "Paige said that I should come in here to ...oh. You're better!" In a heartbeat, Terry's carefully optimistic expression gave way to sheer delight. She raced across the room and just barely refrained from flinging herself bodily at him. "You're all right, aren't you? You're not hurt?"

"Better than ever, according to the doctors," Bobby replied, getting to his feet and pulling her close. It was nice to feel her again, the right way, not with the strange sensation that passed as touch when he was ice. "I'm hoping to be out of here any time now."

Now she clung to him without reservation and kissed him hard. "Thank God. How do you feel?" she asked a bit breathlessly when she pulled away, beaming up at him.

Bobby chuckled, tucking a lock of her hair behind her ear. "I feel fine. Great. Well rested," he added with a wry grin. "They still don't know how I did it, but I managed to undo it, so right now I don't really care." He couldn't seem to stop touching her, his fingers grazing her cheekbone, tracing the side of her neck, brushing her temple.

"Mother of mercy. They'll not let you alone until they know." Her eyes fluttered closed as his hand slid into her curls. "Are they letting you go now? Sure they can't possibly want to do more tests just now."

They both knew it was true, so he didn't bother agreeing. At least he had some good news, aside from the whole 'Honey, I'm not ice' part. "Just waiting for some results on a few tests, to make sure I'm stable and stuff. Then I'm free to go. For now."

"Hurrah." That called for a celebrational kiss...another anyway and Terry wasn't in the habit of resisting the urge to kiss her husband, this past week not withstanding. "They'll be wanting to keep you close. I suppose that's only to be expected." She said it with the vague air of one who held veto powers over such things. As far as she was concerned, people shouldn't be allowed to take her Bobby away without consulting her first. "Just so long as they give you back after a short bit."

Bobby smiled, tugging gently at her hair. "Yeah, I'd kind of like to know how I did it, myself. Better than 'surprise! You're ice!', right?" He rubbed his nose against hers in a happy eskimo kiss. "But I promise, I'll sign in and out, warden."

Terry nodded, "You should practice it so you don't get stuck like that again. Once was plenty." She eased back and ran her hand over his stomach, just checking. "I'd rather have you like this." She let his teasing pass.

Now that he was like this again, it was easy to forget how frustrating and miserable the last week had been, when Bobby weighed it against his own curiosity, much less the curiosity of the more science-minded types around the mansion. "Yeah, exactly," he agreed, pulling her close again. "I'm not going to spend another week like this if I can help it, thanks."

"Forge emailed me, did I tell you? He thought you were quite the thing." Terry thought about it for a moment and nodded, "I guess I did. I'm so glad you're better. I missed having you around." Her train of thought was getting derailed by glee every few seconds or so and she'd spontaneously hug him, delighted all over again that he was Bobby again and not the creature of ice that had taken his place this last week. Intellectually, she knew there wasn't a difference. Emotionally, she'd felt cut off.

"Yeah? Because I for one had a blast being the human ice cube of the medlab for a week," Bobby said teasingly, grinning at her. "...God, I missed you." Not that he hadn't seen her, but it hadn't been the same.

Terry beamed up at him, "You can be an ice cube some other time. Not now." She ran her hands over his arms, down then up, "Are you hungry? It's been a week. You're probably starved. I...Oh!" She pulled her hand back and pressed it over her heart then reached down her shirt and tugged out the necklace she was wearing, "I have your ring."

Bobby smiled warmly, catching the ring between thumb and forefinger where it dangled from the chain. "You've been wearing it?" Food seemed unimportant compared to touching Terry, holding her, kissing her. He did the last, quickly pressing his mouth to the corner of hers. "That's kinda sweet."

The ring was warm from being against her skin. "I...yes. I didn't want it to get lost." She reached behind her neck and undid the clasp, unthreading the chain from the ring. "Bad luck to lose your wedding ring," Terry said softly, taking the plain gold band from him and sliding it back over his finger into place. "And it made me feel better, having it close."

Bobby looked down at the ring on his finger, then at Terry, smiling tenderly. "I love you," he murmured, pulling her close and nestling her head beneath his chin, closing his eyes. God, it was nice being back to normal, but this was undoubtedly the best part.

Terry would have disagreed but would have only made a tiny tweak. She settled against him, listening to his heart beat. "I love you too. Let's get out of here. Dr. Voght's had a whole week to run tests on you. If she needs to do any more, she can go through me. Everyone can from now on." Terry's arms tightened possessively. "I want to go up to our room."

"To our...ohhh." Bobby closed his eyes, feeling a little weak in the knees suddenly. "Let's, uh. Yeah. We should go. Definitely."

Terry nodded and eased back from him, a small anticipatory smile on her face. "Hurry, before Dr Voght stops us." She laced her hands with his and tugged him toward the door. She missed her husband a great deal this last week after all.
