Crystal and Tommy - Winter Ball Jewelry
Dec. 14th, 2006 06:05 pmAfter emailing Tommy, Crystal goes to his room to discuss her idea about the Winter Ball. Without actually saying "yes," Tommy agrees to her request. New jewelry, anyone?
Two short, successive bursts of wind hit Tommy's door, serving as Crystal's method of knocking on the door. She was glad that he'd agreed to talk to her about her idea involving him in the Winter Ball, even though she hadn't told him what part she wanted him to play. Hopefully, he'd agree, but if not, she'd understand.
Putting down the pilers and wire he had in his hands, Tommy pulled on his gloves while he stood up to answer the door. Opening it, he left it open as he moved back to his workspace. "So, what's the big idea?"
Crystal walked into the room and looked over at Tommy's workspace for a few moments before looking back at Tommy. "You like making jewelry, right? If you are too busy or do not want to do it, I will understand, but... I thought perhaps you might be interested in making custom jewelry for people to wear at the Winter Ball."
Tommy had just sat back down again as she broached her idea and he turned in his chair to look up her to see if she was really serious. "I make it to practice my mutation...I'm not sure it is something people would actually wear to a formal function." It wasn't that Tommy doubted his work, but he also didn't think so highly of himself that other people would want to wear it in such a formal manner.
"It is going to be a semi-formal occasion," Crystal reminded him. "You do not have to do this, it is only a suggestion, but it will allow you to practice your abilities while allowing people here the opportunity to have a unique, made-for-them piece of jewelry."
He gave her a curious look before shrugging. "If someone would like me to make them something, they are free to ask." Tommy leaned back in his chair, looking over at his desk, ideas already going through his head, even to the point where he removed one of his gloves to mess with some of his beads.
"If you are open to the idea, I will take care of that part," Crystal told Tommy with a smile. "I will let people know that they have this option and I will let you know who is interested. I can find out the details of what type of jewelry and what sort of design they are interested in, or I can have them meet with you to discuss it if you prefer."
"You may want to warn them that I haven't mastered gold yet. It has a greenish tinge to it whenever I try." It was probably the closest to a yes she was going to get but he nodded as he spoke, his gaze still set on the beads in his hand. Closing his eyes for a moment, one of the wooden turned to the greenish gold he described. Transferring it to his gloved hand, Tommy finally looked up at her again, holding out the bead. "Here, you can even show them."
Crystal took the once wooden bead from Tommy and examined it. "Green gold," she said. "More silver than copper." She looked back at him. "Are you able to increase the amount of copper and make rose gold as well?"
He frowned at her as he considered the possibility. "I don't honestly know. That green gold is while trying to make normal gold...if I treat it like an alloy..." Tommy bent down and grabbed a note book that clearly said gold across the front from a stack next to his desk and began flipping through it.
Crystal waited while Tommy leafed through his notebook, curious as to what he was looking for. Clearly, he was interested in perfecting his abilities and had spent time on research related to his mutation. She was glad to have been able to offer a thought that might help him even more.
Tommy picked up a pen and scribbled something in the margins before he looked up at her, grabbing another bead off the table, rolling it around in his fingers. "I'll play with it but still, show them that. My mutations can be unpredictable, so I don't want to guarantee something I can't deliver."
He was asking her to leave without actually telling her to leave. That was actually impressive coming from Tommy. The boy could be very polite when he chose to be. Crystal nodded and offered another smile. "I will show them and I will let you know when I am aware of how many people will be interested in this opportunity. With another nod, she left Tommy to his research.
