Marie comes to find Garrison following their mission at Youra. He's obviously not a seasoned veteren yet.

Marie had somehow managed to avoid talking to Garrison for the flight home. In fact, she'd avoided talking to almost anyone after she and Haller had their little chat with Scott. But Garrison was her friend and she couldn't avoid him forever. Knocking on the door to his suite, she held a tray of food carefully balanced on one hand.

Well, it was 'Fiddler's Green'. That was never a good sign. Over her time in Canada, she'd come to learn that you could read Kane by his music choices like a card player read tells across the table. There was a creaking, obviously him dragging himself out of his Ikea Prang, and the door opened.

"What do you-- oh, hey Marie. Come on in." Garrison said. He was still wearing the bottom half of his leathers, with a t-shirt and no socks. His guitar was beside the chair, but she was willing to bet the string hadn't been plucked yet.

Walking in, Marie couldn't keep the guilty look off her face. Carefully setting the tray down on the nearest table, she kept her eyes on the tray, refusing to look Garrison in the face. "Rough first mission, huh? You doin' ok?"

"Oh yeah. I'm spiffy. Can't wait to do it again." Kane said, slumping back into his chair and picking up the guitar. "How about you? Island full of Greek men? Like one of those package tours, eh."

"Exactly like the tour package," she replied, though her voice didn't have the same light tone it usually did when she joked with the Canadian. Sitting in a nearby chair, Marie let out a sigh. "Ah'm sorry. Ah know you didn't end up with the...easiest partner." She finally forced herself to make eye contact with Garrison.

"Crazy Davey, the two-stepping wunderkind of Berlin? Yeah, not what I would call a solid backup. Mostly, I've been trying to come up with reasons not to hurt him badly. He was on the mission call, which means everyone else thinks he's stable. So bouncing his head off the concrete isn't technically assaulting the mentally deficient." Kane considered. "It's like beating up people from Trois-Riveres."

"We all have our days," Marie said. "Some are just worse than others. And Ah promise, things like that don't happen every mission." No Marie, it's more like every other.

"Yeah. I'd hope not." Garrison said. He put the guitar back down, and it wasn't hard to see that his hands still shook a little. Marie had noticed the trembling back on the Blackbird, during the ride home in which Garrison was uncharacteristically quiet. "Look, I've been training a long time, but still... I could feel the bullets go past, eh. The sounds of them, right by my ear like bugs or something."

Marie was silent as she remembered the first time she'd been shot at - before she'd been invulnerable. She could remember it like it was yesterday and she was pretty sure that the mission to Greece would be like that for Kane as well. Moving to perch on the arm of his chair, she carefully wrapped an arm around him. "It's not an easy thing. Moving from the training to the doing - it's not the same. Ah mean, Ah'm not saying that training doesn't help but when you're out there...you realize there are no fail safes anymore and it changes everything."

Kane closed his eyes for a minute, willing the images away temporarily. "I think that's why Haller got to me so much. I mean, I can handle it, but suddenly basically being on my own? I guess I wasn't ready for it yet." He slipped an arm around her waist, pulling her beside him. "You know, I'm supposed to be the tough, macho one here, right?"

"Ah think we all come in here thinking we're big and tough. And you know something? None of us are. We put on a good show, but we're all just human in the end." Marie leaned her head against him, bringing her other arm around to wrap him in a sideways hug. "And that's ok."

Garrison did say anything, just sat there for a long time, holding her and trying to willing himself to relax; for his hands to stop trembling. After a long while, he finally spoke.

"If anyone asks, you came up here for some post-mission sex, clear?"

Marie rolled her eyes, but didn't pull away or smack him like she normally would've. "Nobody'd believe it. You have to come up with a more convincing lie. Like Logan was dancing around in a tutu while we poked him with sticks."

"It's sad that it's more believable."

"Yeah, well, you just haven't had the time to develop your reputation here yet. Give it another few weeks," she said with a smile, rubbing his hands with her gloved ones, glad to see that they had finally ceased trembling.

"Can't. Hot secret agent redhead in the city and all." Kane shook his head, still trying not to think too much about things. It was still too fresh, too new in his head. "And as long as I do my shaking behind closed doors, I get to avoid the wuss tag anytime soon."

"Your secret is safe with me," Marie said, a mischievous smile suddenly creeping across her lips. "Just like Ah never told anyone about St. Patrick's day last year and who you ended up almost going home with."

"It was dark, and I didn't see the adam's apple. Shut up."
