Angelo and Rahne plot behind Nathan's back to make sure someone looks after him while Angelo's gone. Then they talk about Rahne's cooking.

Angelo grinned cheerfully at Rahne from across the office, taking advantage of Nathan having gone out for something to talk about him behind his back. "So you know it's gonna be your job to stop Nathan workin' too hard while I'm gone?" It was only half-serious, of course.

Rahne looked up with a finger on her printout to hold her place, raised her eyebrows, and grinned back. "Are ye telling me it ever actually works when you're here?"

"...well, no", he admitted. "But I still have hope. Plus you're smaller an' cuter than me."

"And part of the Redhead Cabal," she added. "Whatever it is we actually do. Which reminds me, Yvette will probably help too."

"Course she will", Angelo announced confidently. "An' you'll have Sooraya as well. She already brings food down here at least three times a week."

"I know." Rahne shook her head bemusedly. "I've been cooking for other people so much less than I used to -- it feels strange to have people try to feed me."

"...that is kind of incongruous", Angelo agreed, teasing. "You just findin' that class an' Elpis fills up your time more, or...?"

"A bit," she said. "I still canna feel quite right about having turned down Red X this time." She glanced back down at the desk, frowned at the printout, and circled something that looked interesting with a note to check further. "But working in the kitchen actually was my part-time job, before I graduated, too. If I thought to make something extra I was ususally right there."

"It's only once", he pointed out, trying to reassure her. "An' you're only one person - not that they don't need your help, but I figure they can manage without it this once if you're too busy. Also, if you wanted to go back to the kitchens part-time, you could always talk to Nathan..."

She shook her head, thought she shot him a grateful look. "I ken they'll manage without me, and I canna do everything... but of all things not to be able to work around this time, midterms." She covered her eyes. "In February, no less. My professors have an odd definition of 'mid.' But they've been surprisingly understanding about trips for Elpis, so I can hardly complain too much." She started writing again. "I'm not really thinking to go back to working in the kitchen. This is more... satisfying. I'll just have to make more of a conscious effort now if I want to cook for fun."

"At least your room's not that far from the kitchen", Angelo reminded her with a smile. "Nothin' to stop you goin' along there after office hours."

"I'm still getting used to having the suite kitchenette!" She laughed. "But there's not really room to make enough of anything for everybody. I'll have to go in and spread sticky oatmeal-bar cheer across the school again sometime." She paused and looked up again, eyes dancing. "I think I'll wait until you get back."

He chuckled. "Well, I appreciate that. Wouldn't want to miss out on your sticky oatmeal-bar cheer, would I?"

"Well, you could always remind me to do it again."

"I could!" was the cheery response. "An' that way, you get to bake twice."
