Bobby finally tells Angelo about Ireland, now that things have settled a bit in Angelo's life. Now everyone important knows. Backdated to yesterday at lunch, before the public announcement was made on the journals.
"So, what's up with you and Amanda?" Bobby grinned and took a bite of his sandwich, shooting Angelo a sidelong look.
Angelo grinned back, shamelessly happy. "Just about what you think it is, I guess."
"Yeah? That's cool, man!" Bobby laughed, happy for his friend. Angelo deserved someone. Even if it was Amanda (not that he would ever
say that. Not to Angelo, anyway.) "So when did it happen? Give me details!"
"Well, kind of... in Tel Aviv, technically. But I was all kinds of screwed up, so not really until after I got back from the FBI thing."
"Fair enough," Bobby replied, selfishly relieved as much as he was happy for Angelo's sake. Maybe he'd be too distracted by a girlfriend
to care all that much about Bobby moving to another country. Or maybe Bobby was giving himself too much credit, in the first place. "I'm
really happy for you. Both of you." He peeled a bit of crust off and popped it into his mouth, wondering how to steer the conversation to
Ireland. "So...lots of changes these days, huh?" he said casually--maybe too casually. Bobby wasn't always so good at subtlety.
Angelo glanced at him sideways, not quite suspiciously. "Yeah, there's been a few. But 's just par for the course, 'round here."
Bobby nodded. "Yeah. It is." He took a deep breath and looked over at Angelo, adding, "And there's another one coming."
Angelo looked at him then just sat back, putting down his fork, to wait for the rest. "There is, huh?"
Bobby opened and closed his mouth a couple of times before he managed to get the words out. "Terry and I are moving. Uh...to Ireland," he
finished with a weak smile.
"..." was the only response for a good few minutes, before Angelo nodded and just asked calmly, "When d'you decide that?"
Licking his lips, Bobby quietly answered, "About the time Tel Aviv happened. We were gonna be gone by now, but after that--I
couldn't just walk away. Not right then." Not when he was still needed by those he cared about here.
"...guess I don't need to ask why you didn't tell me then", was the next, rueful, comment. "An' yeah... things are in a good enough place
now you can go." It was a blessing, of sorts.
It was a deeply appreciated blessing, too. "Thank you," Bobby murmured, staring down at his half-eaten sandwich. "I mean...thanks
for understanding, and...yeah." He looked up again and smiled faintly. "We'll be around for another couple of weeks, maybe a
monthish...depends on how long it takes to wrap things up and ship our stuff."
"You've gotta do what you've gotta do", Angelo said simply, shrugging. "Time was, I was about ready to get out of here an' I didn't even have
anythin' to go to the way you do."
Bobby nodded in understanding. "I need a change, and this one just kinda...fell into our laps. It feels right, y'know? And hey,"
he said with a small grin, "It's not like you're getting rid of me for good or anything. We'll be around. Hell, Terry's still gonna be on the
team and going to school over here. You'll probably see more of my wife than I will, at times."
Angelo nodded, knowing it was true - all of it. "Push comes to shove, there's always the Clarice Express, or just a few hours on a plane or
whatever."
"Exactly! It pays to be friends with a teleporting Pixie," Bobby joked.
