Kurt drops by the apartment, to have a chat with Remy about his sister and his team leader.

It wasn't a particularly uncommon sight to see Kurt climbing the steps to the brownstone... but at times when Amanda wasn't there and wasn't going to be there that day, it was a bit more unusual. Nevertheless, he headed straight for the apartment he knew was Remy's.

The heads up had come from Doug, who'd said hello walking past the X-Man, and just loud enough that Remy could hear. Still, it was a bit of a surprise when the knock landed on his door, as opposed to one of the others. He closed his book and left it on the table as he padded over to open the door.

"Bonjour Kurt. Surprise visit?"

"...I suppose so", Kurt acknowledged, a little embarrassed. He'd got too used to just dropping in on his sister, obviously. "If it is not convenient, I can come back...?"

Remy looked around his empty apartment. "Well, can't say dat my time is booked right now. Come in." He stepped away from the door to let the other man into the apartment and closed it. "Do you want something to drink?"

Kurt nodded, glancing around the apartment in turn. "Whatever you have is fine. Thank you."

Remy shrugged and opened the bottle of bourbon, pouring a couple of small glasses and handing one over. "What can I do for you, Kurt?"

"Well", he said after a moment, drinking some of the whiskey, "I suppose I have come to talk about Amanda and Ororo."

"'manda and Ororo? Remy didn't think dat I was going to get dumped dat quickly, 'specially not for my own staff." Remy sighed, part theatrically. "Guess dat means I have to start dating dat Angelo. You got his cell phone number?"

Kurt laughed, but only briefly before clarifying. "In different ways. You know I worry for Amanda, at times." Or all the time.

"So do I." Remy sat down, taking a sip and letting the glass rest on his thigh. "She picked a high risk profession to go into. If dat femme was smart, she'd take dat brain of hers off to Oxford or something, take dat degree as far as she can. But too much time wit' me, Wisdom and de mansion, I guess. If it helps, she's very good, Kurt, and keeps getting better den very good every day."

"It does help. And I know you would not have employed her if you did not think she was up to the work, but... well. The profession is high risk, I know, and I cannot ask you to promise to keep her safe. Just to do what you can."

"Considering de way we do business compared to de X-Men, she should be having de same conversation with Stormy 'bout you, homme." Remy pointed out affably. Unlike the X-Men, most of X-Force's work was done covertly, silently, and as far away from combat as possible. "'specially, since from what I heard, you don't have de best reaction to painkillers. Dey tend to make you eager to travel." He grinned.

"Painkillers and anniversaries together are not the best combination", Kurt admitted wryly. "And perhaps she should. I would not be sure she has not, in fact. But she is my little sister."

"Dat she is." Gambit took a sip from his glass and set it back down. "I can't say she's going to be safe, Kurt. Part of what dis job involves is a real risk dat if something goes wrong, dat any one of us could end up wit' nothing better den an unmarked grave in a shitty country dat no one even really knows where it is."

Remy paused, rolling the glass between his palms. "But she understands dat, Kurt. She understands dat and still comes in every day because she believes dat what she does is dat important. If anyone has de right to claim dat she's done enough for de world, it's her. And she doesn't ever hesitate to be here."

Kurt heard it, and smiled slightly. "Whatever may cause her to make it... yes, I believe it will. All I would ask is that you do what you can to keep her as safe as you can... and I think you would anyway."

"Even if you weren't, you'd be best not to." He said. "'manda's made her decision on her own. De day she decides to leave, Remy willing to bet dat it's going to be her decision den too." The pride in his voice was obvious.

Kurt nodded again. "I understand that. It is why I am not asking you to promise her safety, as I said. And why I will never ask her to stop doing this job as long as she wants to do it. I could not, after all, not while I still do what I do."

"Non, Remy going to keep sticking 'manda into danger. But it never not going to be for no reason, and never something dat Remy not going to do myself." LeBeau said easily. He lived with the danger of the job everyday, and it was something that until you ended up doing it, you couldn't understand. With a slight smile, he considered that being an X-Man was likely the same kind of thing. He finished his drink and topped both his and Kurt's up. "So dat's ;manda. Now is dis de official talk from de X-Men 'bout dating dere leader, 'cause I figured dat de Boyscout would have take dis one himself."

That was really what Kurt had meant by 'as safe as you can' - he knew there was going to be danger, and Amanda wouldn't have thanked Remy for trying to keep her out of it when it was necessary. "No, it is not any kind of official talk. And it will not be me telling you not to hurt her, because she makes her own decisions. But as her friend..."

"As her friend...?" Remy repeated back to him, waiting for the response. In many ways, he was surprised it took them this long. He figured that Nate would have already sent him the e-mail of manly concern by now. Maybe the incidents at the mansion had taken more out of them then they had thought.

"I would like to see her happy", Kurt said simply.

"Dat makes two of us." Remy nodded. He didn't know what assurences he could give him, because he didn't even know whether or not he could make her happy. All he could do is hope.
