Ororo runs into a hungover Kurt on his way in and her way out.
Keys... laptop... bag... Ororo quickly ran through the checklist of 'things to bring' even as she walked down the hallway, her duffel bag slung over one shoulder and her laptop case over the other. She still had plenty of time with which to get to the airport, and as far as she could tell she wasn't forgetting anything. She had completed all the paperwork in her inbox, and she couldn't think of anything left undone that couldn't keep 'til the weeked was over. It seemed she was ready to leave.
It wasn't completely unexpected that Kurt should be walking the other way, returned from San Francisco. The dark glasses over yellow eyes, however, were a little more unusual, and he wasn't managing quite his usual grace today.
"Kurt!" Ororo exclaimed, spying the bespectacled blue mutant and giving a wide smile. "I had thought I would miss you -- how was San Francisco?" She came to a stop, raising her eyebrows as she took in his less-than-normal posture.
"San Francisco was... interesting", was the answer after a moment. "Nathan did not burn the house down."
"Ah, good. I am very glad to hear that." Really, some men you couldn't leave alone for a second. Ororo was glad that she had thought to ask two of the mansion's more responsible residents to go and check on Nathan. "Thank you for going there... I am sure he appreciated your company, even if he did not say so."
"He did say so, in fact", Kurt acknowledged. "At various points... while we were beginning to empty the wine cellar."
This earned him a very deadpan look; somehow she wasn't all that surprised. "You decided to help him by... what, drinking it all so there would be none left for him to drown himself in?"
"Something like that", Kurt said ruefully. "And to keep him company, since he would not come back with us. It seemed the thing to do."
"Well, it is Spring Break. At least it is not the students drinking themselves into a stupor." Ororo shook her head, more morbidly amused than anything else. Maybe they needed more vacations. "I hope you are not suffering too badly for it today. Is Nathan awake or did you need to drag him back and abandon him in his bed?"
"The last time I saw him, he was going through security at the San Francisco airport", Kurt admitted. "He already had the ticket, and we did make sure he reached his flight safely. He should be back... whenever he was due to be." The question of his suffering was quietly ignored.
With a sigh Ororo shifted the laptop bag until she could set it down, letting it lean against her leg. "Very well." She made a mental note to call back to the mansion to check on Nate over the next day or so... it would be just like him to get 'lost' between the airport and the mansion. "Perhaps some coffee would be in order for you? I believe there is still some of the Yirgacheffe roast in the top drawer of my office desk if you would like it."
"If you would not mind", he said with a faint crooked smile. "There was coffee on the way back, but it was very bad coffee."
"Bad coffee is a crime against man. Please help yourself." It was all she could do not to put down the rest of her things and turn to retrieve the coffee herself - when did she turn into such a mother hen? This thought earned a brief frown from the silver-haired woman, though it didn't last for long. Someone has to do it. And since they are all so intent on self-destruction...
"Thank you", he said sincerely, then finally took in the bags. "You are going away?"
"Yes, to Colorado. Just for a few days. Some scientists at the NOAA contacted me and asked if I would be amenable to coming out to speak with them. It should be a nice vacation, if nothing else."
"And more vacation time must be welcome when the chance presents itself", Kurt agreed.
"This is quite true. And provided the mansion stays standing while I am away I will be glad to have gone. Perhaps I ought to cross my fingers," Ororo said with a smirk.
Kurt laughed, though quietly through the hangover. "Perhaps. Though I think you should not worry about the mansion - it has survived more or less so far."
"This is also true. Then I will just worry about the people inside it, then," she said, leaning forward to pat him on the shoulder. "Take care of yourself, Kurt... enjoy these last few days of break. We will back to work soon enough."
"So we will", he acknowledged. "Have a good time in Colorado, Ororo."
"Thank you, Kurt," Ororo said with a smile, leaning down to pick up her bag. "I shall try. Enjoy your weekend as well."
