It’s another pizza and beer night for Amanda and Marie. They talk about the spring fever that seems to have descended on the mansion as of late and the sudden increase in mansion residents.
"So we're finally both in the same place at the same time and neither of us is evil or possessed," Marie said as the blonde witch opened the door to her apartment. "Therefore, Ah hereby declare pizza and a movie night back in effect. Except less with the movie and more with the details."
Amanda snorted, and stepped aside to let Marie come in. "Especially now you're over that nasty case of telepathy. Picking the gossip out of my head takes away all the fun," she replied with a grin, closing the door behind them. "Besides, rumour has it I'm not the only one with details." She winked at the older girl.
Marie blushed as she made her way into the apartment, setting the steaming pizza box down on one of the countertops. "You first though! Ah swear Ah haven't seen Angelo's feet touch the ground since y'all got back from Madagascar." Grinning at Amanda, Marie added an eyebrow waggle for good measure.
"Secondary mutation?" Amanda replied mock-innocently, then laughed as she headed for the fridge to get drinks, handing Marie a bottle of beer. "Madagascar was bloody fantastic, exactly what we both needed. Time to relax and just... have some fun, y'know?" Her grin widened, became wicked. "We even left the hotel room. Eventually."
"To go to a secluded beach and continue on?" Marie teased as she accepted the beer and moved to flop onto the couch. "Ah bet y'all didn't so much as see another soul for the entire trip." She took a sip of her beer, then turned a devilish smile at her friend. "Ok, Ah don't know if Ah can handle all the details and still look Skin in the face..."
Amanda scooped up the pizza box and a roll of paper towel to use as napkins, and followed Marie back to the couch, dumping the food on the coffee table between the books. "Well, there was the stopover in Attilan on the way home, so we had to get dressed sometimes," she said, before taking pity on Marie. "And I won't give you the fine details. Just that we had a fantastic time and..." and here she paused and actually blushed. "And we're official, I s'pose. Boyfriend and girlfriend and all that jazz." Under the pink cheeks, she looked happier than she'd been for a very long time.
Marie reached out to grab a slice of pizza, blowing on it to cool it down. "That's really great. All Ah'd ever wish for each of you is to be happy - and if you can make each other happy, well that's even better. It's like a two-for-one deal." It was refreshing to see her friend blushing at the mention of a guy and smiling more than she ever had before. "We should, uh, do a double date. Or something."
"We are. Happy. Helps that we've known each other for so long, there's nothing we can't say to each other. Makes for much less shite with all the misunderstanding and the rest," Amanda twisted open her beer and had a drink before going on. "And now we get to your news. Rumour has it it's you and the Mountie?"
It was once again Marie's turn to blush. "Who knew that telepathy could be such a handy dating tool?" She took a bite of the pizza, chewing it slowly as she cast her eyes down. "'sgood too. Just trying to figure it out, y'know? This whole dating thing still feels...new."
"Then take your time. Nothing says you have to rush out and pick china patterns tomorrow," Amanda advised, reaching forward for a slice of pizza of her own. "The important thing is that it feels right. Tho' it helps that you were mates first - you should be able to talk to him, at least, if he's decent at all."
"He's quite decent," she said with a smile. "And he makes me laugh. But yeah, friends first seems to be a good way to go about things. You already know the skeletons in the closet an' all." Marie smiled weakly at Amanda. "But look who Ah'm talking to."
"All I know is that he knows his way around cricket terms and Doug thinks he's Captain Smarm," Amanda said with a grin and a shrug. "But you're looking less peaky than you ought after being possessed and catching telepathy, which means he's doing something for you, and that's enough for me." The grin turned wicked. "Of course, I'll have to meet him proper and check him out, and I daresay Ange is getting that whole "hurt her and I'll do horrible things to you" speech ready, so... double date sometime? I promise not to tell him about your hubby back in San Fran."
Marie reached for the nearest pillow and threw it at Amanda. "Ah blame the crazy. Because, um, Ah can." She reached for a paper towel and shook her head. "Yeah, Ah can see that Gar and Doug wouldn't really get along. 'specially after he dated Marie-Ange. And speaking of gossip...how are things between them? They both seem happier too. Someone must've put something in the water, what with all of us emo-muppets smiling all the time now."
With a squeal, Amanda ducked the pillow, cradling her pizza and beer protectively. "No fair! Hands full!" she protested. "And I don't have the levitating spell any more, so I'll have to resort to making faces." She stuck her tongue out at Marie. "And yeah, they've sorted themselves out. Finally. Only took a whole conspiracy with Forge and me throwing shoes at Doug's head to get them to admit anything, and they've been dating again."
"And then there's 'Ro and Remy," Marie said, picking her beer bottle back up and drinking half of it in one gulp. "If Ah didn't know that wasn't how these things worked, Ah'd bet someone else messed with a love potion. Luckily, it is just the spring air making everyone go all doe-eyed at each other. We should start a pool on who's next. My money's on Crystal and Tommy. Starcrossed lovers...it's be our own West Side Story. The royal and the rebel."
"Spring fever?" Amanda suggested, through a mouthful of pizza. "Some sort of relationship virus? Supervillains?" She swallowed, and then continued, a bit more clearly. "At least this batch of kids isn't as bad as our lot for the pairing up. Just Julio and Angel. Scary thing is, Tommy and Crystal could probably work - they both tend to hold a lot of themselves in, so they'd get that in each other." With a laugh, she washed down the pizza with another mouthful of beer. "And that's all the matchmaking I'm doing, before we go to the scary places."
Marie's own mouth was full of cheesy goodness, so it took her a minute to reply."We did have some of the worst pairings imaginable, huh? Funny that Doug and Marie-Ange were the ones to make it through." Polishing off the rest of her slice, she reached out for a second one. "But yeah, no more matchmaking. It never goes well. Instead, lets talk about the other juicy gossip floating around. What else is going on?"
"Apart from Mark's getting in touch with his feminine side and coming into work with tits bigger than mine? Not a hell of a lot." Amanda snickered. "Tho' that might be considered plenty by some. But I think you lot have all the news - what's with all the prodigals turning back up? The X geezer set off the brain implants, did he?" She winked at Marie to show she was joking.
"Hey, Ah'd pay good money to see some of my coworkers walking around with a nice set of boobs. Scott for instance. Ah think a C cup would suit him well." Marie winked back at Amanda, taking another sip of her beer. "But yeah, people've been showing up in droves. John's the one that really threw me though. He just showed up at my door, like three years hadn't passed. And it barely felt like they had. Except, you know, we get into different kinds of trouble now."
"Be careful what you wish for, mate - you just might get a right and proper eyeful. And yeah, John's still the same grumpy bastard I remember seeing wandering around in his boxers when I was sneaking out of Manny's room early of a morning." The small shadow that flickered in Amanda's eyes was only regret for how Manuel had ended up, not guilt - she was making her peace with things now. "Did they chuck him out of school or what?"
"Who knows?" Marie said with a shrug. "He neatly avoided saying much of anything the entire time we talked. Actually," she said, wrinkling her brow, "no, he's still in school. So probably a fight with his roommates or something? Who knows. Could've used the telepathy, that's for sure. He's a hard one to read."
"Sounds like John-Boy all right - always did work hard on the whole 'don't bother me' attitude." Amanda nibbled at her pizza, and then added: "Xavier's was always big on the waifs and strays. What's the new kid like? The little tiny one?"
Marie set her empty beer bottle down, dabbing at her mouth with a napkin. "Jan? She's pretty funny. Ah'm hoping we get her right sized soon enough so she can start hanging out with more folk 'round the mansion. She spends most of her time with Terry and Kyle Ah think, since they can hear her. Oh, and the telepaths."
"Yeah, must make a dent in her social life, being too small to be heard. Maybe Forge could rig her up with an amplifier or something in the meantime?" Amanda suggested, finishing her pizza slice and waving Marie in the direction of the fridge if she needed a refill.
"Bet you it's already in process," Marie said, getting up to grab another beer for herself. Glancing at Amanda, she snagged a second one and handed it to the Brit before sitting back down. "So did Ah get a chance to tell you about what happened during my psi-ness with Forge?" she asked, a grin on her face. "Now there are some thoughts Ah never thought Ah'd delve into..."
"So we're finally both in the same place at the same time and neither of us is evil or possessed," Marie said as the blonde witch opened the door to her apartment. "Therefore, Ah hereby declare pizza and a movie night back in effect. Except less with the movie and more with the details."
