Kurt and Bobby, Wednesday morning
Apr. 18th, 2007 11:22 amKurt goes visiting to say goodbye. And help carry boxes.
The door to Terry and Bobby's suite was open when Kurt arrived, presumably to make it easier to carry boxes out. He knocked anyway, politely, and called in, "If you would like help with the boxes, I can take them very quickly."
Bobby looked up and smiled, waving from behind a stack of boxes. "Hey, Kurt. Uhh..." He looked around at the various groupings of boxes, but the smallest was the ones marked 'Ireland'. "I'm mostly done, I think. Actually I could use a break. And a drink," he added, heading to the kitchen and adding over his shoulder, "Want anything?"
"A cold drink would be welcome", Kurt said with a smile, stepping into the room. "The preparations are going well, then?"
"Yup. Just about ready to go." Bobby poured them each a root beer, handing Kurt a frost-covered glass as he came back. "It's gonna be weird, being at the Keep without Terry, though," he sighed, taking a sip as he pulled up a box to sit on.
"It will not be all the time", was all Kurt could offer. "And as I understand it, you will be kept busy enough while you are there on your own."
"Oh, totally," Bobby agreed, grinning. "Once I get there I'll keep busy, especially at first. It's just...thinking about it, y'know? About her not being there..." He trailed off, shaking his head. "Anyway. It'll be awesome, even so. I mean, I'm going to live in a castle in Ireland. How cool is that?"
"Very cool", Kurt agreed solemnly. "And not only live in it, but own it at least by proxy."
"Yeah. Almost like a king, or something." Bobby chuckled. Of course, over in Europe everyone was related to a lord or a king or a duke or a something, it seemed like. And you couldn't throw a rock without hitting a castle. "Still...I mean, it's a long way away, and far from everyone I know." He took a deep breath, looking past Kurt, expression distant. "I hope I'm ready for this."
"If you find you are.not", Kurt told him, or reminded him, "you know the door is always open here. But somehow I think you will be."
"I know," Bobby said softly. But he'd made a commitment, now. He couldn't just try it for a month or two, decide it wasn't for him, and walk away. This was Terry's inheritance, her history and her family and her home. He had to make it work, even if it was hard. "And hey," he added, looking at Kurt again with a smile. "I'm sure I'll be back for visits and stuff."
"Oh, I never doubted that", Kurt said with a smile in return. "Once things are into a routine, or quieter - there is the jet, or you could always ask Clarice for a lift."
"Exactly. Plus Terry's gonna be racking up frequent flyer miles like crazy, going between the continents." He laughed and added, "But yeah, the Pixie Express is always handy, if she's not busy."
"Well, then eventually she will be flying back and forth for free", Kurt pointed out, grinning.
Bobby laughed. "Pretty much. Or else I'll be flying on her coattails, so to speak." But he didn't plan on coming back for at least a few months, the first time. "There's gonna be SO much to do when I get there. So much to learn." But his eyes sparkled at the thought of learning all of that history.
"Much like there is anywhere", Kurt said, smile softening a little at the look on Bobby's face. "I can guarantee you will not be bored."
Bobby looked at Kurt and gave him a small smile. "Yeah. Hopefully I'll be too busy to get lonely. Or homesick." Otherwise he and Terry's phone bill would rival their airline bill, before too long.
"At least not too lonely", he agreed. "I would not expect any amount of busy to keep you from missing Terry at all."
"Yeah, I expect there's nothing I can do to keep from missing her a little," Bobby agreed. "But she has so much going on here with school and stuff. We'll just have to be patient, both of us, and know we'll be together again in a few weeks." A few months was closer to the truth, but Bobby didn't like to think about that.
"It is not so long. And until then, there are phone calls. It may help if you set a time for a regular one."
"Not a bad idea," Bobby said, although he had a feeling they'd be calling a bit too often to bother scheduling. Still if they struggled to keep in touch, he'd keep that in mind.
"Well, I guess I'd better get the rest of these down to the car," he sighed. He grinned at Kurt and stood up. "The offer of help still open?"
Kurt nodded with a grin in return, standing. "Of course it is. Which would be the hardest to carry down the stairs?"
Bobby laughed and surveyed the boxes, grabbing a bulky one that was hard to see around, much less cart down flights of stairs. "Here. This one." He passed the box to Kurt, then stacked up three smaller ones, lifting them with a grunt. "I'll meet you down there."
Kurt chuckled and disappeared.
