Leaving Canada, Garrison has a request for Forge once they get home.

Garrison idled the engine, waiting for Forge to finish tossing the last of his bags in the trunk. It was early in the morning, although already there was an empty Tim Horton's coffee cup on the dashboard and another in his hand. He yawned as Forge pulled open the door and climbed in.

"About damn time." Garrison put the car into gear and pulled out on to the street.

"Blame your appointed officials for sending me home with enough swag to start my own provincial outpost," Forge retorted, fastening his seat belt and stretching his legs. "All in all, I think I managed a few good successes. Aside from laughing at the Minister of Sports and Recreation. How was I supposed to know that's a real job?"

"You'd be amazed. Some of these guys start out assuming they're going to get RCMP guards, like we were the Secret Service." Kane laughed as he drove, only occasionally stopping Forge from going near the radio dial. After an elongated battle over the dial last week, he's switched it to a news channel and left it for now. "As for success, you impressed Mac, and he doesn't impress easily. I can't tell you how many junior designers and engineers he's made cry over the years for wasting his time."

Forge shrugged, lacing his fingers behind his head and smiling smugly. "That's because no one's ever seen a natural genius like mine before. Although Hudson's someone I think I'll enjoy collaborating with - he's got some radical new ideas on geothermal procedures that are nothing short of revolutionary. I admit, I'm itching to get back to my own lab, though."

"Why? You got some invention that's been stewing for the last week, or did you just leave the soldering iron on?"

Forge casually tapped one metal finger against the side of his head. "Biological imperative. My power doesn't ever shut itself off. Sort of like hyper-focused ADD if I can't express it. Like having a supercharged car that's just begging to be taken out on the open road."

He glanced out the window, watching the skyline fade in the distance. "And I miss my lab. It's like going on vacation but really, you want to get home to your own bed. Only me, I work more than I sleep."

"That raises a whole lot of unfortunate questions." Kane said mildly, finally getting on to the highway onramp. "If you're going to be back in the lab, I have a little project for you. It's kind of important."

"Sure thing. So long as it doesn't involve animatronic beavers or anything like that," Forge agreed.

"No, nothing like that." Garrison said cryptically as they headed for the border.
