Laurie had always believed the world to be a place full of endless possibilities for joy and life. She woke up in the morning looking forward to the day and never thinking for a moment it wouldn’t bring some new excitement or thing to learn. Even the events of the past year hadn’t dented her enthusiasm for life.
She knew that there was nothing she could do to help her friends. She had no way of knowing where they were, no way of helping them more then the people already searching, even if she did.
Except in this, this she could do. She tightened her arms slightly around the small spiky girl clutching at her waist and rocked her gently, muttering soft words that she wasn’t sure would even help but needing to say something anyway.
“They’ll find them, Yvette. I promise they’ll find them.”
