Wednesday, Jennie and Terry
May. 16th, 2007 12:19 pmBefore heading to the airport, Terry stops by Jennie's room with a request.
Terry rapped on the door to Jennie's room, hoping that the other girl was up to seeing visitors, at least long enough to say goodbye. She felt a bit guilty at not being wracked with guilt the way so many seemed to be and she reckoned that was simply part of being Catholic. There was no escaping the guilt in the end. But that wasn't the point of her visit. Mostly she just wanted to make sure Jennie knew she was welcome to visit if ever she wanted to.
People just didn't know when to quit. Jennie cracked an eye at the knocking, having finally fallen into something resembling a doze. Jennie momentarily had the urge to throw her shoe at the door, but then banished it. It wasn't their fault.
"Yeah? Whaisst?" she called, not even bothering to correct the slurring.
Terry winced. She should have considered what the silence from the room meant first. "It's Terry." she called apologetically through the door, "I just wanted to stop by and say bye before I left. Sorry."
"Nah, come in. S'okay." Terry was okay. Terry wouldn't be trying to feed her or hug her. Terry had been there when they were at the hospital. Jennie pushed the ball of covers off herself and sat up. She wasn't exactly dressed, only in a tank top and boyshorts, but they were both girls.
Terry gave Jennie a sheepish smile as she slipped inside the room. "Sorry, didn't realise you'd be napping." She closed the door behind her and crossed the room, to perch on Jennie's chair and offered her the vase of wildflowers she was carrying. "Sharing the wealth, I thought they were too pretty to throw out but I'm fairly sure that flowers are on the no fly list. Pollen is a terrorist threat."
Jennie waved a hand dismissively. "I think sleep and I have suffered a tragic parting of ways. Eventually it's going to sneak up and club me over the head, but until then I remain vigiliant." Inwardly she noted that the witty banter came much more naturally when she was delirious from lack of sleep. She yawned, ducking her head so Terry wouldn't see the fangs. As if she couldn't see the claws or the eyes. To be honest, part of keeping everyone other than important people out of the room was so they couldn't see her. She asked for Crystal to keep her distance simply because she didn't want to wake the other girl up with her nightmares.
"Thank you for the flowers." She gave Terry a close-lipped smile. "I'll do my very best to take care of them until your return. Uh, you are coming back, right?"
Terry blinked, not at the way Jennie looked--that was hardly worth noticing when you'd live half your life with a furry blue man for a teacher--but at the question. "Aye, for a visit now and then and I'll be back in September when classes start again." She hesitated then went on, "We're going to be quite busy at the Keep for the next month or so. There's...well, I don't want to bore you. It's government nonsense, having to do with the historical preservation. Plus there's the wedding plans. I don't expect to be back here until July at the earliest."
"Well, as long as you're coming back," Jennie said. "I'm not going to pull a Forge and moan about how everyone's leaving." But July was something she couldn't exactly contemplate. She was barely aware of 'Tomorrow' at this point. She flicked her bangs out of her eyes. "When are you leaving? ...It's not...oh lord, are you leaving today?"
"Of course I'm coming back. There's school and the team even if there wasn't all my friends," Terry glanced at her watch, "I have to run in about an hour actually. Jan helped me finish up my packing last night. And it's not hardly like people can't come visit us, there's plenty of space in the Keep and sure Bobby and I are likely to kill each other with no one else for company."
There were several things that Bobby and Terry could do to entertain themselves in the castle alone that came to Jennie's mind, but they were not fit for polite conversation. She coughed. "Well, I'm not exactly up for making promises at the moment, but I'll see if I can't visit or something. When I'm less of a genetically engineered killing machine and more me. Neighbors might frown on that bit. Ooh! Do you have leprechauns there?"
Terry smirked like she knew what had just gone through Jennie's mind but all she said was, "Not that I've ever met myself but they'd hardly deserve their reputation if they showed up to every person on the isle. I'm inclined to think that there are stranger things in this world than believing in fairies."
Jennie pffed. "Like what? Other dimensions? Dinosaurs? Demons? ...oh, wait." She smothered another yawn.
"I was thinking like how much food Angel can put away in one sitting or the continued popularity of Paris Hilton." Terry responded and snuck another glance at her watch. About time for her to go and definitely time for Jennie to get some rest. Five minutes more though wouldn't hurt.
"If you gotta go, you gotta go," Jennie said, not missing the checking of the watch. Movement made her twitch. "I'll be fine. I'll email you. Barring, you know, an invasion of space aliens or something."
"I've still got a minute." Terry grinned, "Try to avoid the aliens. No good can come of it. Are you going to be here all summer? I've got to send out invitations and I want to be sure they're all going to get where they're going."
"Ummm. As far as I know. I've got Crystal's sister's thingy, whenever that is." Jennie rubbed her forehead with the knuckle of her thumb. Summer month? Began with a J? "Sorry. I'll give you something more concrete after this week."
"June the twenty-fourth," Terry answered promptly, "We're going to that as well. So long as you're not planning to go live with your father for the summer it's fine." With a satisfied nod, Terry got to her feet, "You look beat. Go back to your nap. When you're feeling better, check your schedule and see when you have a chance for a visit. We have cute neighbors."
"Even then, I could still swing it. Crystal's been after me for a long time to come visit her home, and I've promised that this time I will." Jennie yawned again. Screw it, if she had a nightmare she had a nightmare. Time to pass the hell out already. "Apologies if I don't hug you. I'll owe you one when you get back, okay?"
Terry waved off the apology. "Don't worry about it. You're taking care of my flowers. That's good enough. Take care, Jennie." She smiled then headed out without any more pleasantries. Time to go home.
