Kurt and Scott, Saturday afternoon
May. 19th, 2007 02:47 pmThey go shopping for gym equipment, and discuss an idea for team training Kurt could lead.
"Stop looking at the speedometer, Kurt," Scott chided him blithely, taking the turn rather quickly. And yes, that was an understatement. "We're on country roads, there aren't any other cars in sight. All we have to watch out for are stray cows."
Kurt was holding on to the edges of his seat - and the bottom frame of it, thanks to his tail - as unobtrusively as possible. "I am not very used to cars", he offered apologetically.
"Well, we ought to change that. I know, you have more efficient ways of getting yourself places that aren't hugely distant, but still."
"I probably ought to be more used to them, after these years in America. But as you say, my powers often take the place of driving, and we use the jet for most places too far for me to teleport to."
"They can be a lot of fun," Scott said, slowing down a bit at the sight of a sign announcing that the speed limit had just dropped. He didn't want to overdo it. "Especially on days like this. So what are we looking for at the athletics supply store again?"
"Some of the frames are wearing out a little", Kurt answered. "And I thought perhaps we could get a second trapeze."
"I need to get you to do some more tumbling training with the team. I think we could all do with it," Scott said somewhat unexpectedly, speeding up again. Just a little.
Kurt blinked over at him. "You think the team need training in how to take falls?" It was the only reason he could think of they'd need tumbling lessons.
Scott nodded. "We get some fairly incidental injuries, sometimes. Things that could be avoided, potentially."
"Well, I will be glad to, of course, if it is needed." He paused, then admitted wryly, "Though I think my physical differences allow me to cheat a little."
"True, but they also give you a better understanding of the limits the rest of us have," Scott pointed out. "Which I think is invaluable."
Kurt tilted his head. "How so? I have never had a baseline human body. To understand, I would have had to live in both, no?"
"You don't have a baseline human body. So you live in the zone where the rest of us only can reach if we push beyond our limits."
He considered this for a few moments before speaking. "You mean... that I can see where the limits are by what I can do easily and you cannot?"
"Something like that. Or I may be just talking nonsense," Scott said cheerfully.
"Well, we will see. I will find out if that is really how it works when I begin the lessons." Kurt smiled.
"Well, I figure it can't hurt, either way..."
"Oh, certainly not. I will try to remember that I can do what others cannot, too." He didn't want to be unfair.
Scott glanced sideways at him, trying not to snicker, and then turned his eyes back to the road. "Well, you can be a little tyrannical."
"Only when I have to be", Kurt responded, absolutely deadpan.
