Sam is off for a walk through the town, and runs across a contast from a new store.
Summer, without Ororo's special help, was finally here and after the stress and madness of the last two weeks, Sam Guthrie was happy for a chance just to get out of the mansion and windowshop for an hour or so in the sun. Most of the Salem Center shops were using the weather to wash away the accumulated dirt and grime from their facades and awnings, setting out little fences and tables for summer patios, and washing away the last vestiges of winter.
There were even a couple of 'grand opening' signs being strung up across the building fronts, as new business threw open their doors for the first time.
It was nice to be able to walk around. Sam enjoyed being outdoors, and simply ambling about watching people. He'd have lunch out, maybe do a bit of shopping if something caught his eye, then head back to the mansion. He was worried about Marius and Kyle and Jennie, but they seemed to be recovering okay. Maybe he'd check in on Kyle. His relationship with Jay had ended badly, but Sam still liked the younger boy.
"You look thirsty." A voice came from behind him, and ended in a laugh. Sam turned to see the woman standing outside of the store front, with a clipboard in one hand and a pair of tall ice-rimmed pitchers on the table beside her. The sign above the door said 'Salem Travel', and the fresh print was obviously just dry on the storefront behind her. "Free glass of lemonade to every entrant in our grand opening promotion."
"Well, that's downright neighborly," Sam replied with a smile. He knew the lemonade was there to entice people to enter in their promotion, and the promotion was designed to get information so that the agency could build a customer list, but a tall glass of lemonade sounded like just the thing. It didn't hurt that the woman they had pitching the promotion was attractive and had a dazzling smile. "Sure, what the heck, sign me up." He took the pen from the woman's outstretched hand and quickly jotted down his name and contact information.
"Oh, I just love your accent." The woman said, with an embarrassed duck of her blonde head. She tore the ballot from the clipboard and slipped it into the box. "The grand prize is a trip for two to Las Vegas. I bet you have someone that you can take, right?"
"Ah'm sure Ah can find someone ta go ta Vegas with me," Sam replied. Maybe not quite what the woman meant, but he was sure that some of the staff might enjoy a trip if he were to win.
She gave a little sigh as she put down the clipboard and poured him a tall glass of lemonade. "The cute ones always can." She passed over the glass with a smile. "If you win the grand prize, we'll also offer a number of discount packages if you want to take more than one person with you. It's a really good deal, and hopefully the next time you're looking for a vacation, we can be the ones to help you find it."
"My name is Amy, by the way."
It hadn't been so long that Sam didn't know when he was being flirted with. "Ah'm Sam," he replied, extending his hand for a shake after taking the glass of lemonade, and letting his fingers linger just for a moment against Amy's palm when they drew away. "Ah'm a teacher at a small private school, so Ah'm sure some of my coworkers or students might be interested. That's assumin' Ah win, though." He took a long sip of the lemonade and made a satisfied noise. "That's mighty good stuff."
"My secret recipe; lemons, water, sugar, and ice. I'm going to patent it." Amy gave him a bright smile and passed over one of the Salem Travel brochures. "Alright, teacher Sam with the great accent and the pretty eyes, you are an official registrant. If that someone turns out not to be able to go to Vegas with you, you know where to find me."
"Ah might just do that," Sam told her with another smile, taking the proferred brochure.
