Laurie & Angelo phone log
Jun. 7th, 2007 07:30 am Laurie calls Angelo with an invitation.
Laurie's hand paused on the phone for a second, cradling it gently in her lap as she sat on her bed. She'd been home for three days now, hadn't really talked to anyone back at the mansion more then was necessary. She just...didn't have a lot to say, and wasn't yet willing to really _talk_ about her feelings on the whole thing. It had seemed simpler to go home, spend a few days with her mother.
She gripped the receiver, placing it against her ear and dialling the Elpis offices, she just hoped it was Angelo who picked up. She didn't really want to have to talk to anyone else, not just yet.
She was in luck, as a familiar accented voice answered. "Elpis New York, how can I help you?"
Laurie hadn't expected an answer quite as quick as she'd gotten and it took her a moment to answer, struggling over her desire to hang up, as apposed to the knowledge that eventually she would have to talk to both Angelo and Amanda about what she'd done.
"H-hey..." she said softly, taking a drink of water from the cup at her bedside to wet her suddenly dry mouth. "Um, it's Laurie."
"...hey, Laurie", came the quiet answer, after a pause marked only by the rustling sounds of movement. "How're you?"
"I'm, um, well", she replied, twirling the phone cord around one finger and then uncurling it. "You?"
"Could be worse", he answered honestly - or at least, no less honestly than her answer had been.
"Yeah." she replied, fingers gripping the cord tightly for a second before releasing with an effort. "I heard Amanda's allowed visitors now, or um, she's accepting visitors now?"
"Yeah, she's allowed. I think she always was, just... limited. But if you wanna go see her... I think she'd want to see you." To see for herself that Laurie was safe, in other words.
"I'd like to." Laurie replied, muffled as her head bent forward slightly to rest on knees she'd brought toward her chest. "Mom, well, she said she'd drive me in if I wanted to go. Only, I thought you might like to come too, to um, to see her. I thought, well...maybe you'd like the company?"
She didn't mention that she'd like to see him as well, so she could see he was okay. She'd left fairly quickly after everything, and hadn't had a chance to see him before now, even though she'd heard he was okay.
"I've, uh... I've been goin', whenever I get the chance", he told her. "But sure, if you're passin' the mansion on your way to the clinic... I'll go in with you."
"We'll pick you up then." she responded, letting out a breath she hadn't realised she'd been holding. "I'll see you tomorrow then? Um, say about midday?"
"I'll be there", he agreed. "Out front at the mansion?"
"Yeah...." Laurie said, pausing for a second as she thought of everything she wanted to say. "I'll, um. I better go. Mom's got dinner on, and you know how Mom's are about letting food go cold." she finally said, not saying any of it at all.
"Yeah, I know." There was a touch of amusement in his voice, for just a moment. "Okay. I'll see you tomorrow. An' Laurie... stay safe, okay?"
"I'll try. You too." Laurie replied quietly before placing the phone back on it's cradle. She reached up and wiped the tears gathering before they could fall. Eventually, she figured she'd stop crying, maybe then she'd feel like going back to school.
