Sarah stops by the mansion to see Jono now that he's back. The two waste no time in picking up where they left off.
This was definitely the worst timing ever, Sarah grumbled to herself, taking a quick scan of the mansion grounds before heading inside into the thick of Parents Weekend festivities to find Jono. Whose stupid idea was it to come back this weekend? Seriously.
Jono had been wandering the halls, reminding himself of the many parts of the grand mansion that were no longer familiar. Thankfully, few of the students knew him enough to try and introduce him to their parents, and with the black bandages wrapping him from navel to nose, not many people tried to come up and make small talk. Quite how he preferred it anyway. It was good to be back, but the scheduling was a mite... off.
Entering the foyer, however, was a familiar sight for sore eyes. "Y'know," he said as he leaned against a doorframe, "if you're returning those overdue library books just now, Shan's likely to pitch a royal fit."
The corner of Sarah's mouth quirked up at the corner. Not a full-blown grin, mind you, she had a reputation to uphold. "Please. Do I look like the type that returns library books?" And then, without warning, she glanced down both sides of the hallway to make sure no one was watching and proceeded to hug him.
"Oi, mind the pointy bits," Jono protested ineffectually, returning the hug nonetheless. "Liable to make me go off like a bleedin' Roman candle and there'd never be the end of the shite I'd hear for it. So, Japan not working out for you, is it?"
"Oh, but Sparky, I like your pointy bits," she replied, just loud enough for him to hear. Letting him go, her hands returned to
her hips. "My pretty half finally figured out I was crazy, and that no, the power of love doesn't make everything all better. I'm fucked up whether anybody else likes it or not." She sighed dramatically. "It was tragic."
"Well, better off, I suppose," Jono said as he stretched his arms out. Not that he needed the exercise, he was just grateful to have arms again, as well as the rest of him, what there was anyway. "So they're corralling me into teaching music here again, if you can believe it. What're you keepin' busy with these days?"
"Working over at Snow Valley. There's just something about form letters and speeches that really gets me going." As for Sarah, she was just grateful to have her Nightlight back in the general vicinity. "And occasionally, I get to hit things."
Jono blinked, then slowly slid down the wall to sit on the floor. The mental emanations of laughter were unmistakable as he closed his eye and slapped his thigh. "You're doing paperwork?" he exclaimed, "With a desk and business bloody casual wardrobe and little business cards? Next you'll tell me you're living above ground."
She just rolled her eyes in response, giving his leg a playful kick before settling down beside him. "I think you missed the part where I said I get to hit things. I like that part."
"So you did," Jono agreed, leaning subtly into Sarah. "You can take the monster out of the basement, but you can't take the... something out of the something. But... it's doin' good for you, though?" He looked at her for a moment, realizing just how much time had passed since his first explosion in that room with Nathan, then Sarah leaving, to now. "You're gettin' by?"
Sarah patted a hand on her pocket, the outline of her cigarette pac visible through the denim. "As long as I have cigarettes and I'm not living with a bunch of heroes, I'll make it just fine. Besides, it seems like I should be asking you that question. Stuck with Alison Blaire's job? Fuck. The kids ever get the two of you confused?"
"Wouldn't know," Jono said, shaking his head. "So far there's just the one. 'm told the class is gonna start up come fall, so I got the summer to pretend I've got a clue, right? That an' maybe figuring out how not to go fucking nuclear again. I don't know about you, but I'm getting rather shite about it. Other than that, I'm gettin' by just fine."
"Good to hear. Explode again and I will be first in line to kick your ass." She leaned her head against his shoulder, and suddenly missed the boiler room a great deal. Turned into a beach, my ass. Finally she smiled. "It's good to have you back Sparky."
