Monet tapped on the door and nudged it open with her shoulder, a cup of coffee in each hand. "Hey..."

Kurt was currently occupied reading through the team reports yet again, but the door opening dragged his attention away from that riveting task. "Hello, Monet."

Monet placed Kurt's cup on desk and fidgeted with hers, tapping the handle lightly with one hand. "I wanted to say thank you for getting me out of that room." She shook her head slightly and looked away.

"There is no need", he said quietly, watching her with concern. "Once we knew you were in there, we were not going to leave you."

"No... but." She took a sip of coffee. "You were hurt. You both were and you didn't know what was going to happen you opened the door." She didn't look at him, eyes trained on the wall, the window instead.

"No, we did not", he acknowledged, reaching for the coffee on the desk. "But that was not the most important thing."

"How do you do it? Go out and deal with nutjobs like that all the time and. And then." Monet's voice cracked slightly. "And then people are still stupid fuckers after you're done!"

Kurt blinked, and the concern in his eyes deepened. "Monet, has... has something happened? Since we came back?" She might just be speaking generally, he knew, just about the way the world was, but she seemed very distressed.

"What? Fuck no. Well, I mean, I saw Illyana and she wasn't good. Really, really not good..." Monet had arrived after the girl had probably scrubbed most of everything in her apartment. "And I'm fine
aside from the killer clowns. Didn't even get scratched."

"Invulnerability is good for that", Kurt agreed, choosing not to mention that 'physically unharmed' didn't mean 'fine'. They both knew she wasn't the latter. "And I am glad to hear it, though not about Illyana. As for your question... it may not be helpful, but we do because we have to."

Monet sighed. "It doesn't seem like it does much good, though, really. People still do stupid things. They could have died in there, Kurt. Mondo and Yvette're only invulnerable some of the time and John and Nathan aren't. They could have really been hurt."

"I know", he said seriously. "And I am sorry that students - and you and John - were dragged into it. That we all were, since it was meant to be a vacation."

Monet gave a slightly brittle and laughed softly. "Yeah, well, it's what we get for going to a hole like Vegas. How about we go lie on a beach someplace tropical next time, getting massages from beautiful people?" She smiled more naturally, trying to act as though everything were fine again. "I'm sorry, Kurt. I was ....being silly, just now."

"There is nothing silly about being upset by what happened", Kurt told her, watching her expression. "Or by what might have happened, this soon after it is over."

"I know. But you're fantastic, I'm fantastic, everyone is fantastic. Well, except for Amanda. She's kinda not, really. So I just have to
stop being silly about it all. Besides, aside from needing my nails done, I'm fine." Monet wouldn't look at Kurt, shifting the now empty mug from hand to hand.

"You said that before", he pointed out gently. "But physical hurt is not the only kind."

"Yeah, well." Monet shrugged. "Thank you." There was a brief pause before she grinned at him. "Now, can I dye your hair pink? I think it would suit you."

That got definite blinking. "I... pink hair with blue skin? You think that would go together?"

"Yeah, for sure. They're thingies, complimentary colours and if it's a deep pink, it should work." Monet grinned at Kurt again. "Thanks, mate."

...well, it wouldn't be the first time he'd done or allowed something ridiculous in the name of cheering people up. Just... the first time here, or at least the first time in a long while here. "It would be temporary, yes?"

Monet nodded. "Of course. It wouldn't last more than three... maybe four washes. So you can get it out in a day if you don't like it."

"It would probably take people's mind off anything else, if only for a short time", he said thoughtfully. "All right. After Parents' Weekend, I will let you dye my hair."

She squeaked and hugged him. "Thank you, Kurt!"

He blinked, but... if it made her that happy, he could hardly complain. His return hug was hesitant, unused as he was to being suddenly pounced by anyone but his sister except in times of stress, but it was there.
