Jennie, Yvette, Angel, Crystal, Sooraya, and Laurie have a slumber party in Crystal's room and decide to go sock-sliding in the palace.

"Okay, so, I knew you lived in a palace and all. And my Dad's no slouch for decorating. But man." Jennie said admiringly of Crystal's room.

"It is being very beautiful, yes," Yvette agreed, resisting the urge to start touching things.

"Just. Wow. It's so shiny." Angel was right with Yvette on the not touching things, though her hands kept trying to do the grabby hands act. "This place is awesome!"

"Oh, well, thank you," Crystal replied. Although a few of her suitemates had arrived the day before, the others had arrived late this afternoon and hadn't yet had the chance to explore the palace. Her room in Attilan was a stark contrast to the almost-bare room she had kept at Xavier's. Still, most of the items were simple decoration, antique furniture and scenic pictures she had happened to take a liking to years ago. Of personalized items there were still only a few. items from travels or ones received as gifts throughout the years.

Sooraya didn't think she had ever seen a domicile so beautifully decorated as the palace that Crystal called home – even her room, while understated, was elegant and regal. Just like Crystal herself. "I think even though it is very big, this is a home," she murmured, smiling at the blonde girl warmly. "You belong here, yes?"

Crystal nodded, smiling. "Yes, it is, and yes, I do." It was what she had told Amanda almost six months ago when she had first invited her to the palace... it was her home.

" I still think the fountains are my favourite part." Laurie replied, remembering the walk in the gardens she'd taken last night. Ororo would be in heaven, she was sure of it. "They look amazing at night."

"And the gardens," Yvette supplied - she'd done a lot of exploring yesterday, waiting for the others to show. Then her eyes glowed briefly, the corners of her mouth twitching in a hint of a mischievous grin. "And there are being many floors for the sliding in the socks, yes?"

Angel cackled, rubbing her hands together in glee as she glanced down. She'd taken off her shoes ages ago—she'd been terrified of tracking mud or anything else in—and the vibrante lime green monkey socks looked perfect for sliding. "Yes, because that's what you totally do at a sleepover at a home like this. I mean, really, Princess Diaries anyone?" Turning, she beamed at Crystal.

"Um. I don't think we could get away with mattress surfing." Jennie said, looking at Crystal. "I mean, if we could that would be awesome. But mischief is strictly up to the mistress of this household." The oldest of the girls raised an eyebrow at their hostess.

"I do not..." Crystal stated to say, then stopped, looking at the eager faces around her. Jennie, too, was looking at her expectantly. Jennie, who hadn't seemed to particularly want to go to Attilan but had finally agreed to go. They were in her room, after all, and there was a long hallway before they'd end up in front of a room where anyone else would be trying to sleep. "Oh, fine... but just down this hallway. It is very late, and most people are sleeping, I am sure, and we should not disturb them."

"We will all be very quiet," Sooraya said with a nod. She didn't know what mattress surfing was, but if Angel said that sock-sliding was what one did at a sleepover, well, then they ought to do it.

"I could always offer to put them back to sleep if we do wake them up." Laurie replied with a mischievous grin, sliding her shoes off and putting them neatly next to Crystal's bed. "Longest slider gets dibs on next movie night choice?"

"Then I am hoping you are wanting to be watching the Muppet Movie again, because I am the best of the sliding people," Yvette replied, almost cheekily.

* * * * * *

Angel grinned over Laurie at Jennie as the M&M bounced off her forehead. "You totally missed my mouth," she giggled, up her her wrists in Laurie's hair. "Come on, try again! We're smart and beautiful, we should totally be multi-talented enough to do someone's hair and snack at the same time, right?" She opened her mouth as she put a little more hair gel into her suitemate's hair.

"All right, if you want to be fancy about it," with a flick of Jennie's wrist she sent the M&M bouncing off the carpeted floor, hitting a metal light fixture with a ting!, bouncing back off one of the marble walls and then straight into Angel's mouth. Jennie casually blew on her fingertips. "The eraser game for the win, man."

Laurie wasn't entirely sure what Angel was doing to her hair back there but she was much too happy to really be bothered by such things. "So, who do you think is going to win?" she asked, noting Crystal and Yvette who were having a slide off a few meters away from them.

"I think it will be Yvette," Sooraya said thoughtfully, sitting cross-legged next to the other girls and watching as first one suitemate and then the other skidded on the smooth marble floors. "She is had more practice at the school for this."

There was a quiet squeal and a bout of giggling as Yvette managed to slide the entire length of the hall backwards, narrowly missing colliding with a suit of armour that was standing 'guard' at the end. "To be beating that!" she called to Crystal at the other end, mindful of keeping her voice down so as not to wake too many other people.

Crystal hesitated for a moment, eyeing the hallway. Well, she'd put on socks just for this, she'd better give it a try. A moment later, she was sliding on her way toward the end of the hall, skidding gracefully to a stop in front of Yvette.

Laurie clapped, grinning at her roommate and now ex-suitemate. "Bravo! Excellent form." she said, putting on a horrible fake British accent. Amanda might well have thrown something at her for it, had she been in the general vicinity.

"Hold still!" Angel chided as she twisted up the other side of the older girl's hair. "But the judges score a 10 for both parties!"

Yvette came back to the rest of the group, flopping on the floor, still giggling. "Crystal is being the natural," she said, conceding defeat.

"I am familiar with the hallway," Crystal said, smiling. She'd walked down it, run down it, soared down it so many times she could have slid, blindfolded, down the hallway without crashing into anything. "Plus, having control over air might have helped a bit."

Laurie held her head still, even though her instinct was to turn to face the people she was talking to. She wasn't quite sure just what Angel was doing back there but she was sure she didn't want to make her mess it up. "So, tell us about all the cute guys in the Palace." she said, grinning.

"Now now," Jennie said from where she was stretches out by the wall. "If you wished for cute guy gossip, all you had to do is ask her roommate." The dark haired girl flicked her bangs out of her face with a casual toss of her head. She knew Crystal was not the one to ask about boys. "I shall not lie, I'm finding some of the staff here rather attractive. Shame they seem to be immune to my flirting." Jennie inspected her nails.

Yvette's eyes glowed briefly and she ducked her head at the mention of staff being attractive. "You are to be flirting with the teachers?" she asked, a little shocked.

Laurie suddenly blushed bright red as she remembered just the type of flirting she'd done with a certain staff member. They so did not want to go in this particular direction. "I think she meant the palace staff, Yvette."

Uh, yeah no." Jennie said, with a mock shudder. "The school staff, not so much. Also, it's not a good idea to um, make a mess where you eat. So to speak. Sadly I think the palace staff are too well trained and unfortunately either don't speak English or my French makes their ears bleed."

"Oh, I am to be mistaken." Yvette sounded relieved, and she ducked her head again.

"Thankfully for my oft-love struck heart, the guys here are old." Of course, 'old' to Angel meant anything about the US legal drinking age but it did save her from swooning too much. She grinned at Crystal. "But really nice." Taking a step back, she tapped Laurie on the shoulder. "All done!"

Laurie turned to look in one of the mirrors that were placed strategically along the hall and frowned slightly. "I look like a moose."

Angel blinked and responded immediately, "Aw, but a very cute moose! Make all the boy moose go waaaagh!"

As she observed the girls around her, Crystal couldn't help but find them all most definitely insane. Still, it was good to see that her former suitemates could still laugh after the year they'd been through. "One last slide for all," she declared, "and then everyone should try to go to sleep. There is a rather large event here tomorrow, you know."

Late at night (or is it morning?) Crystal and Jean are both awake.

Was it really that different, Jean wondered, growing up in the middle of all this, compared to life at the mansion. Certainly the oppulence of the palace was several steps above the school, but when it had just been her, Charles and Eric the Mansion had seemed like the grandest, and emptiest, home in world. Certainly the feeling of rattling about in all the space was much the same. And, this late at night, there weren't that many other people up to give the building more of a sense of life.

"Dr. Grey-Summers?" Crystal rounded a corner and saw that someone else was awake and taking a tour of the palace. Yes, that's who the redhead was. The palace certainly had its share of redheads this weekend, much as Xavier's usually did. "Good... well, I believe that it is technically morning now as we are in an A.M. hour, although I suppose back in New York it is still yesterday. So, good morning."

Jean turned with a smile. "Crystal, good morning, then. Or possibly just 'hello', to avoid the confusion. I didn't think anyone much was still awake. It's good to see you, though. How have you been since you left? Enjoying life at home?"

"Yes, and oh, some people are definitely still awake," Crystal said with a small grin. "I believe some people are still on New York time and are therefore thinking as if it were four hours earlier than it actually is here."

"Ah," Jean said, catching the little grin. "Well, I admit, I did hear a certain amount of faint giggle echo down the halls a while back, but I had chalked it up to ghosts."

"No ghosts here," Crystal replied, smiling. "We did not mean to disturb anyone. I did not expect to find anyone wandering the halls at this hour."

"Oh, I was definitely not disturbed," Jean assured the girl. "After all, given the amount of time I've lived in a school, I would have been in a great deal of trouble if I found the sound of youthful giggles disturbing. So, jet lag being the obvious answer in my case, what brings you out into the halls so late?"

"I am..." Crystal paused, puzzled. Why was she out, roaming the halls this late? Being up this late was one thing, but why was she out here? "Oh! A snack! The kitchen is further down this hallway, and I am on my way to get something to eat."

There was a hesitation there, but as a teacher Jean was used to students having to try and come up with some good reason to be out of bed past curfew, so she didn't think much of it. "Actually," she said, a snack or some cocoa might help with my jet lag, at that. If you don't mind my joining you?"

"I do not mind at all," Crystal said, continuing down the hall.
