Watching television, Yvette and John catch the news of Attilan's disappearance.
Summer might mean no classes, but Yvette still had plenty of work to do, what with make up classes to work her way through. Today was English - again - and she had her faithful dictionary sitting beside her on the floor of the rec room as she sat with her worksheet, trying to work out the intricacies of verb changes.
John stepped over her and fell into a seat on the couch. He kicked his feet up and rested it on the table. "Why aren't you making use of the library?" Without asking if it was alright, he turned the television on.
Yvette looked up and smiled. "Because," she replied, somewhat impishly. The drama-free trip to Attilan - barring Crystal's cold demeanour at the end - had done her a lot of good. She went back to her worksheet and made a face. "English is being made by the crazy person, I think. The rules are not being rules. They are... how you say? Guidelines?"
"It's an evolving language, Pet," he said. "We're all crazy." John smirked then nodded toward the screen. "You'd do a lot better if you ditch that dictionary and watch cartoons instead." He flicked through the channels; from HBO to National Geographic to CNN.
After an hour of wrestling with verb tenses, Yvette didn't need any more encouragement. "Okay," she said, closing the dictionary and tucking her worksheets into her notebook before joining John on the couch. "Laurie is showing me the Cartoon Network, and it is being very fun."
He arched an eyebrow at her. "Let me guess. Tom and Jerry?" John snorted. "Try American Dad, South Park and maybe Pinky and the Brain." He increased the volume on the television. "Couple of genetically enhanced lab mice who keep trying to take over the world?"
"Oh, I am knowing this one! Pinky, he is being very silly, yes?" Yvette's eyes glowed with amusement, before something on the television caught her attention. "Is he saying Attilan?" she asked, having only caught the end of the announcer's words.
"Something about the island vanishing," John murmured; his attention on the news.
Yvette drew unconsciously closer to him as the announcer repeated the news, the pictures switching to a shot of an expanse of wave-tossed ocean. "But..." she whispered. "Crystal and Medusa are there. They can't be vanishing."
Huh. There didn't seem to be an end to the drama surrounding mutants; particularly the ones from Xavier's. John turned his gaze on Yvette, noting the look of worry on her features. Fuck. He really wasn't build for this. "Look, uh, we don't know for sure what's going on. Maybe they're just avoiding press coverage for the wedding," he said. "Invisible island?" Jesus, Allerdyce.
"Maybe." Yvette looked up at John, a small frown pinching her face, skin already stiffening again. "But I think we should be telling someone. Just to be sure."
Frankly, he thought the news would've already been seen by one of the staff, but he nodded anyways. "Let's go see if Scott's in the office, alright?"
