Backdated to last Wednesday before Nate left and before islands went missing.)

In order to prevent Kyle from being arrested for violating one of the terms for his probabation, Nate used his legal powers proactivly. Yay legal superpowers.

It took some looking, to find Kyle; given that classes were out, everyone's schedules and habits were less predictable. He was nowhere to be found inside, but some careful scanning found him outside on the basketball court, so Nathan collected the letter and went out to find him.

"Must be funny, to think that one of these days you'll be on the plane that disrupts the basketball game, rather than the player whose game is going to be disrupted," Nathan called, by way of greeting.

"I'm pretty sure that even then, it'll be my game that gets interrupted anyway." Kyle said, grinning as he managed to miss -yet- another basket. Forge was right, he threw bricks. Not that he'd ever admit it. "I'll be out here, playing some one on one with Julio or Forge or something and instead of "Clear the court.", I'll get "Clear the court, oh, and get, come down here and get in the plane."

Nathan laughed. "Now I have an image of needing to TK you into the plane on the way out," he quipped, stopping at the edge of the basketball court. "'Lasso Beast Boy, Cable. We don't have time to stop.'"

Kyle winced at his brand new trainee code name. It could have been worse, but not by much. "And then whoever we're fighting wins by default because someone crashes the plane because they're all laughing to death." He picked up the ball and leaned against the pole for the net. "So, what's up? I mean, is this just random pickup basketball or am I like, due for another dodgeballing or something?" He paused, and then added. "I might have nightmares about Mr. Marko and dodgeballs for months."

Nathan rolled his eyes, but kept smiling. "I need the excuse of thinly-veiled sadism to come looking for you? I'm hurt." He extended the letter. "The Professor asked me to wield my law powers for good on your behalf. Not a big deal, and in a year it won't matter anyway, but for now..."

Kyle did a fast doubletake. "Dude, wait what?" He gave Nate a very puzzled look. "It's not the car thing. I know it's not the car thing. There's -no- way it's the car thing." Still, a guy could hope. "Is it the car thing?"

Nathan snorted softly. "Open the letter, Kyle - but don't get your hopes up," he said, with a fair amount of amusement, if not unkindly.

Before he opened the letter, he knew it wasn't the car thing. That wasn't even likely, and there was no good reason for it. But besides that, he had no idea what it was until after he opened and read the letter, going over it twice to make sure he understood it. "So, now instead of "I can never ever ever leave the country until I'm eighteen, now I can with a 'responsible party'" Kyle said, questioningly. "So, what's that mean, responsible party? Like, one of you guys, or does Forge count?"

"Someone who's over 21," Nathan said. "I'd count, or Moira. Scott or Ororo, or any of the other older staff members... Charles thought that you might need or want to travel, what with some of the decisions you've made lately."

"So, no sneaking off to Mexico with Julio, but I won't get tossed back in jail if I end up having to save the world off in, I dunno, Belgium or something." Kyle said brightly. "Cool." Not that he really wanted to sneak off to Mexico with Julio between now and March. "Dude. I should tell the Red X people that I'm eligible for helping overseas now too. In case a hurricane hits like, Guam or something. Where -is- Guam anyway?"

"The Marianas Islands," Nathan said, amused. "The Western Pacific," he elaborated. "I've been there. You don't want to know why. Not a very exciting place, all in all." He nodded at the letter. "You can keep that, if you want - I've got a copy that's going in your file here at the school. I'm glad Charles thought of it, you know. It just... opens up options, for you."

"Yeah. I wouldn't have thought of it until like, halfway to Guam or Belgium or whereever." Kyle said. "I should poke in and thank him, and I owe you a thanks too, since you had to write or call or .. do.. whatever legal stuff that I totally don't understand." All jokes about sneaking off to Mexico aside, it had bugged him, people getting to go off to Scotland or Canada or Attilan when he couldn't. "I guess I should maybe talk to my folks about the passport thing now too, huh? Since I think one of them will have to sign something. Probably. There's always -something- one of them has to sign."

"That would be the next logical step, yes," Nathan said, mock-gravely. A flicker of telekinesis brought the basketball to his hand and he tried a shot from where he was, not using his powers. It bounced off the rim and away, and he made a face.

Kyle coughed, although it sounded suspiciously like the word "brick!", and did not laugh, although he looked like he wanted to. "Man, this whole like, productive member of society thing is a lot of paperwork." He watched the ball bounce off to the side of the court. "And so to totally protect my reputation as a slackass teenager, I am going to blow it off and play basketball." A glance at Nate, and then Kyle went to get the ball.

Nathan tried not laugh, himself. "If you humiliate me," he said, stepping out farther onto the court, "I'm going to sic my daughter on you. She's taken to stalking people, you know."
