Blackagar has a question for Medusa.

Attilan Date: October 19, 2007

Medusa smiled tiredly as the door to the office she had taken over opened. Rising, her skirt fell to brush against her knees as she crossed the room, making a soft swishing sound with each step. It was the only noise in the room, as the new occupant was incapable of speech without destruction...destruction that had recently proven powerful and dangerous. Without a word, Medusa wrapped her arms around Blackagar and leaned her head against his shoulder. He had remained her rock, the one stable component in the sea of change that had washed over Attilan.

The once-prince, now-king, let her rest there. It had been hard for them all since the events of the disaster. The turnover of power to account for those lost, the panic and confusion that had followed from the sudden isolation -- to the unfamiliar Medusa seemed to say little and showed even less, but to a man who lived in silence moments like this screamed. Even the movement of her hair against his neck and shoulder was strangely subdued . . . much like her younger sister had become.

When they finally parted Blackagar raised his hands in sign.

How does it go?

"~The same as it has been,~" Medusa said softly. "~We are beginning to see some order arise from the confusion, but I imagine we will hit more roadblocks. People are just so...disheartened. They rallied at first, but with this prolonged inability to reach the outside world...and the casualties...~" A shiver ran through the redhead's body and all the way through her hair. "~It is just hard to remain optimistic.~"

Yes, and for more than just the people, Blackagar knew. Life in Attilan proceeded, but the absences were unavoidable: the lack of incoming news, the searchers who never returned, and the once-familiar faces now absent from the halls of the palace.

Like Maximus.

We are not alone, Blackagar signed. Karnak is handling the council. Triton knows his duty. Let Gorgon take a share of your work. He would thank you for it. He inclined his head, eyes fixed on hers. So would I.

"~But he already has a full plate,~" Medusa began and then stopped, looking into Blackagar's eyes. Letting out a small sigh, she nodded, ever so slightly. "~Perhaps I can ask Gorgon to take over the housing project...it is running smoothly, but being on call for it has been stressful.~"

Blackagar did not doubt his cousin was equal to the task; Gorgon's judgement had proven itself time and again since the start of this crisis. Blackagar's primary concern, looking at Medusa's tired face, was for how easily his fiance had acquiesced.

Blackagar took her hand, fingers brushing over the platinum engagement ring he'd given her. Then he took a slow step back and flashed two signs.

Marry me.

Medusa stared blankly back at Blackagar for a moment, before tilting her head ever so slightly. "~I believe we already did this. I said yes. My answer has not changed.~"

Blackagar shook his head, demuring the taken meaning. No, he signed, Now.

"~Now?~" Medusa said, her voice raising slightly to turn the simple word into a question. And then she smiled, the first real smile she'd had since the day of isolation. "~Now,~" she said again, only this time there was no question in the word.

Unity and stability: two things the people were sorely in need of, both perfectly encompassed by the symbol of a royal marriage. Blackagar knew this well, and it would be the reasoning presented to any arguing for the traditional waiting period. But for all the sacrifices he had made and would make again, he knew this wasn't for Attilan.

It was for that smile.

Soundlessly, Blackagar stepped forward and kissed her.

And Medusa allowed herself to get lost in the kiss, to forget everything else and just enjoy the moment. When the pair finally separated, Medusa looked more like herself than she had in a while - somehow the dark circles under her eyes and the lackluster cast to her appearance had lifted slightly. "~Crystal will be pleased - I will finally have some good news to share.~"

A smile touched Blackagar's lips. Yes, he signed, Life should move on.
