Posted early due to timezone issues. Lyrics from Empire Records 'Sugar High'.

Jan and Laurie have a tiny bit too many sugary treats in town and end up in the newly opened 'Anarchic'.

Laurie looked at herself in the mirror and giggled, before placing a hand against her mouth as she looked around in a semi-guilty fashion. The people of 'Anarchic' took their gothitude quite seriously and she wasn't entirely sure they wouldn't do something nasty to people who didn't take it seriously.

"Jan, I think I may well have found the perfect look for standing around contemplating the bleakness of existence." Laurie replied, looking over at her companion in shopping.

"Yeah, or else the people back at the mansion will think we've gone crazy, or that we broke our brains or got possessed or something." Jan twirled around. "We're a bit early for Halloween, you know, but I think we'd get some pretty interesting looks if we showed up at the school looking like this."

"We should take pictures and post them at random spots for people to wonder at. Then, if they asked us if that was really us, we could say no, it's our evil twins." Laurie responded, doing a twirl in her dress and watched the rather disgruntled clerk that they'd been tormenting with their cheeriness wince.

"Scary thing is, I think people might actually believe us," Jan pointed out with a laugh. "They'd probably run tests on us and send people out to find our evil counterparts."

"See, I always wanted an evil twin. That way you could get away with not making your bed, or doing the dishes 'cause you could say that they'd been talking to the evil one, and thus shouldn't be surprised that it wasn't done." Laurie noted, looking at Jan with the critical eye. "Do you think we'd offend if we asked them where they kept their clown make-up?"

"Shhh!" Jan replied. "They might kill us and offer us up as a sacrifice if they hear you say that!" She twirled again and started singing in a soft voice so only Laurie (hopefully!) could hear. "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine! You make me happy when skies are grey!"

Laurie blinked in surprise, remembering the dream she'd had during the time she and several of the school members had been kidnapped. "Okay, that is creepy. I had a dream with exactly that song in it not long ago. It was the weirdest thing ever, and I swear it must have been directed by someone like Stephen King or Clive Barker."

"That's supposed to be a happy song!" Jan said, looking horrified. "I mean, it's kind of weird, you know, considering it's not really a happy song at all if you think about the rest of the words, but still, peppy! Not Stephen King creepy!"

"I know, it completely threw me for a bit when I woke up. Although, the whole being kidnapped thing was sort of distressing as well but that song..." Laurie stopped and shook her head as another store clerk came over to ask them if they needed help. "No, we're fine. Just trying some things on."

"Anyway, there was this cat...I think the cat was probably the really creepy bit." she continued after the clerk had wandered off.

"OK, cats in scary movies are not good," Jan said with a small shudder. "They usually eat people or get killed or both. Ugh. Have you seen the one where the guy shoves a maniac cat into a microwave? What did your nightmare cat do?"

"No, thank God. Or was that the Pet Cemetery one? I could never watch all of that, I always ended up hiding behind Mom when the scary bits came on. And...it didn't do much, really. Just sort of looked at me and then led me off to this room that had Amanda in it, and then I woke up. But that song was playing the entire time and the cat seemed to know more then a cat should, you know?" Laurie responded, taking off the hat she'd been modelling and placing it back on the rack.

"Maybe it wasn't just a cat," Jan said thoughtfully. "Maybe it was a shape shifter. Do I even want to know what was going on with Amanda in your dream?"

"Maybe, I suppose I should have asked Amanda, since she's sort of the expert on magic around these parts. Well, one of them anyhow, I think 'Yana and Ms Maximoff know a bit as well. And...she wasn't really doing anything. Just kinda sitting in this place, looking really beat up and tired. I woke up before she could say anything. It was just weird, all around." Laurie replied, giving Jan a look and then wordlessly handing her a hat.

Jan examined the hat, looking thoughtful, then placed it on her head, upside-down. "Is it me?" she asked Laurie with mock graveness.

Laurie's eyes went wide with the strain of _not laughing_. Nope, she would not laugh..."Definitely." she choked out before collapsing into giggles, her legs slightly wobbly.

"I thought so," Jan said primly. "Picture?" She handed her cell phone to Laurie and flashed a wide grin.

"Picture" Laurie responded, grinning just as widely and sidling up next to Jan so she could get them both in the shot. "How much longer till they throw us out in disgust, do you think?"

"Not until, um, no, I think we overstayed our welcome about ten minutes ago." Jan removed the hat and handed it to Laurie. "I think we should buy something so they don't want to kill us. They wouldn't want to kill paying customers, right?"

"It would definitely be bad for business." Laurie responded, taking a hold of the hat and looking at it. "I believe we should buy this, to remind us of this store and how we should never, ever decide to go Goth, ever."
