Crystal drops by Scott's office to say hello and makes a couple of decisions about her visit.
For Crystal, some things had changed during the past two and a half years while others had remained the same. For as long as she could remember, she'd always enjoyed using her powers and had been comfortable using them. With the fact that all members of the royal Attilani family were (and had been even before the island disappeared) mutants out in the open now, Crystal was even more comfortable with the use of her abilities, even in public.
The hallways outside the office of Xavier's headmaster Scott Summers was not quite viewable by the public, and Crystal announced her presence outside the room in the same way she always had when she had been a student at the school: three brief bursts of wind tapped on the door.
"Come in," Scott called.
Crystal opened the door and stepped inside Scott's office. "Getting ready for the new school year?" she asked, noting him at work. "Classes start next week, yes?"
Scott smiled at her. They'd seen each other over the weekend in Ireland, of course, although it was a surprise to see her here so soon. He'd figured she'd be back for a visit at some point, though. "They do. And I've got a rafting trip to supervise before then. Not that I'll be doing much rafting myself," he said, gesturing at the brace on his knee. "Although at least I'm off the crutches."
"I was rather glad when I no longer needed to use my crutches," Crystal said easily. "The rafting trip is this weekend, then? One last bit of summer fun before getting back to tests and homework? Do you mind if I come along?"
"You're welcome to come... if you're sure," Scott said with a deadpan look. "It might have been two years for you, but surely you remember the field trip curse."
"Two and a half years," Crystal corrected cheerfully, sitting down in one of the chairs across from Scott. "More, really, if you add in the fact that the last field trip I went on was, what? A couple of months before I graduated? Nearly three years, then; I remember. However, as I am neither a student nor a staff member here, nor am I an X-Man for that matter, I feel confident in stating that the field trip curse cannot possibly apply to me."
"How I wish people wouldn't say things like that," Scott murmured wryly. "Always feels like inviting doom."
"I suppose there could be a Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters field trip saying," Crystal said with a slight smile, "something along the lines of theatre's 'break a leg'. I think it would be a trifle dramatic, though, and possibly traumatic to have the students tell each other to have powers-related accidents, get kidnapped, and meet up with a member of the Brotherhood."
"Possibly a little. Bad enough that each new arrival gets greeted with the demon stories. And the kidnapping stories. And... actually, I'm going to stop there."
"I attended school here," Crystal reminded Scott. "I have heard the tales of horror. They are still going around, I see. Poor Amanda. It is one thing to make light of an event that is entirely in the past but something else altogether to bring something like that into the public spotlight in a hurtful way. I suppose I am not all that surprised by the Stepford sisters, but Monet...?" She shook her head. "Anyway, I planned on staying in a hotel for the duration of my stay, just as I did last night, but it has come to my attention that some of the people here might take more than a bit of offense at the idea of me not staying here. I do not have any sort of a problem with staying here, but the decision to come was a spur-of-the-moment one and I did not wish to make the assumption that I could just show up and have a place to stay at the school itself. I will not be in New York for more than a week."
Scott didn't comment on the journal gossip. There'd been bad behavior on more than one side of the issue there, as far as he was concerned. "You're more than welcome to stay here," he said instead. "We've got plenty of room, and you're right - you'd probably find yourself followed back to the city by your unhappy former classmates if you insisted on staying elsewhere."
Crystal wasn't surprised at all that Scott didn't say even one word about the journal post and its replies. It had been an observation, really, not an attempt to elicit his opinion on the matter. She had changed topics on her own, after all. "It is settled, then," she said with a dramatic flourish, then stood up. "I will accompany the people going on the rafting trip, stay at the school for a few days, and avoid being chased down by disgruntled students."
"Sounds like a plan. Try and make sure you catch up with your former teachers, too - I'm sure they'll be happy to see you."
