Backdated waaaaay back to Wednesday 29th August 2007 as I am a dork and forgot to post it.

Laurie meets Sarah in the gym and they have a conversation about Sarah's unique abilities.

Laurie stretched out, spending time on each muscle as she cooled down from her workout. It had been the rowing machine today, and a little bit of jogging in the morning. She had a session with Garrison tomorrow, so she didn't want to overdo things and be sore for that, especially considering he was the type of trainer to take advantage of any aches and pains to show you how to fight through them rather then whimp out and wobble around like an old woman. She looked up as she heard movement by the gym doors.

There was very little that made Sarah happier than a good sparring session. Though it may not have been apparent from the way she looked after them. She had changed into cleaner clothes already, but that still didn't cover the bone along her shoulders or the jagged bone knife still sticking out from just below her knee. Dropping to the floor by the gym doors, she busied herself with tying her shoelaces."Don't let me interrupt."

Laurie had seen the girl, Sarah, around from time to time but hadn't talked to her, namely due to the fact that she always seemed a little intimidating. It was with something akin to shock that she looked at her now, noticing the bones sticking out. "Um...maybe you should go see Dr Summers-Grey for that?" she said after a moment, getting her brain back on track.

Sarah laughed, not unkindly, but because it had been a while since someone from the school had worried because of her mutation. She imagined she looked terrible, to someone who didn't know what she could do. "It's my mutation. It'll heal."

"Oh." Laurie replied, shoulders relaxing as she realised she wouldn't have to do anything of a first aid nature to someone who might have been in shock considering they were walking around with bones sticking out. "Doesn't that hurt?"

She couldn't imagine it not hurting, although mutations were an area that could surprise you, so it was a good idea never to make assumptions.

"Yeah, it does. Not much I can do about that though." Still sitting on the floor, Sarah pulled her knee towards her so she could better reach the bone knife. "It comes in handy, if you don't mind bleeding all over the damn place."

Laurie moved closer, slightly hesitant as she moved, but facinated. "You've got a healing factor?"

She realised how stupid that question must sound as soon as it left her mouth. Of course she had a healing factor, otherwise she'd bleed to death, wouldn't she?

Sarah pulled the rest of the bone out with a quick tug, dropping it to the floor beside her. She grinned mischievously up at Laurie. "Yeah. You think I'd be crazy enough to spar with Logan if I didn't?" Never mind the fact that she probably would be. Let the girl think she was not-so-crazy for a moment.

"Well, sparring with Logan should always be considered crazy, I would figure." Laurie responded, an answering smile giving a friendly warmth to her eyes. "I guess I'll give you the benefit of the doubt though, considering you survived and all."

"I like living dangerously." She pushed herself off of the floor then, tucking the bone in the waistband of her sweats so she could throw it out later. "And maybe I'm just a little bit crazy."

"I think it's one of the rules for living around here once you reach a certain age. 'Must be this crazy to ride the rides' or something like that." Laurie said, eyeing the bone. "What do you do with them? Once you pull them out, I mean?"

"I used to give them to my vicious attack puppy. But since he's in Japan, now I just throw them in the garbage. They pile up pretty quickly." The bone that had covered her knuckles had all but flaked

off, but some still remained along her shoulders. She might have looked almost normal. "And I use them to fight dirty. Not everybody makes their own combat weapons with body parts."

"That must be pretty useful." Laurie said, thinking about what you could do in hand to hand if you had something like that. "Mr Kane's teaching me some hand to hand stuff now, so I can use it once I start X-men training. It's fun, which I probably shouldn't say since it's meant to be all serious like but it's fun."

Sarah tilted her head, and took a moment to look very seriously at the girl. "Nothing wrong with enjoying what you do. It's when you don't like what you're doing that there's a problem."

"You sound like my Mom." Laurie replied with a smile, and then returned the serious look with one of her own. "It's weird, I thought you'd be all 'kids, grr, argh, don't talk to me'. But you're cool."

Laughing, Sarah might have looked just a little embarrassed. "I was, my first go round here. I still am, sometimes." She shrugged, and breathed out deeply. "But today is a good day. So you just got lucky, I guess."

"I'm glad then, it's much more fun talking to people when they're not growling at you." Laurie said, looking at her watch. She needed to go, she'd promised to help out with lunches today. "I've got to go. I sort of volunteered for lunch duty."

"You have fun with that then." Sarah genuinely smiled at Laurie, gathering the rest of her sparring gear in her hands. "I'll see you the next time you catch me around."
