Crystal looks for Cain and finds him cooking dinner.

Once again, Crystal Amaquelin of Attilan was at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters to stay, this time as a staff member rather than a student. She didn't yet know how all of the students and the other staff members would react. Logan's reaction on the staff journal wasn't very promising, but that was Logan after all, and Forge's defense had been quite touching.

The smell of the fish on the grill made its way to her as she approached the large figure standing by the grill. Just the person she was looking for.

"Hello, Mr. Marko," she greeted him.

"Miss Crystal," Cain replied, nodding his head and carefully flipping one of the lake trout with a thin spatula. "Glad to see you'll be staying with us. Place could use a little extra class, if you don't mind my saying."

"Oh, I am not the one who might mind a statement such as that one," Crystal said with a small laugh. "I believe pranks and glitter are prized above class here. You may rest assured that I will not contribute to the destruction of school property and that, if for some reason I do, I will admit it and quite possibly take care of the problem myself."

"Can we get more of you?" Cain asked with a laugh. "Of course, your sister's probably all busy what with being Queen and all that. They've got you teaching, what, powers stuff? Might do a world of good to try and fit Basic Manners 101 into there as well."

Crystal nodded. "'Powers stuff', yes. I would be more than happy to offer lessons on manners and proper etiquette if I thought anyone would actually be willing to sign up for it. There are differing customs in different countries, of course, but the basic idea of being polite is generally the same. I am also not quite sure what people would think of me offering such a class, to be honest." All she needed to do was contribute to the idea that she believed herself to be superior to others.

Cain just shrugged in response and checked the tenderness of his filets. "Eh, there's always teaching by example. I always figured that works better, even if it takes a while to sink in with some folks. They aren't all idiots here, though I never said that."

Crystal had to keep herself from chuckling and was glad Cain was paying more attention to the fish rather than her at the moment. Saying the people at the mansion weren't all idiots meant he was saying there were those he thought were idiots. "Of course," Crystal agreed with a smile. "Not everyone here is an idiot." She looked amused for a moment before continuing. "I have been assigned a room on the staff floor. I would like to check with you to ensure that this is permissible with you."

"Huh?" Cain looked over at Crystal, suddenly puzzled. He paused until a sizzle from the grill prompted him to flip one of the fish off and onto a waiting plate. "I got no problem with it, Chuck and Summers usually handle the details there. Why're you... oh." He smiled, then nodded. "I've got no problem with you staying here, Miss Crystal. Thanks for asking."

The mansion had been Cain's childhood home, and not in the way it was it was to the students who moved there at a young age. It had been his home with his family, and the way some people treated or regarded the man just didn't sit right with Crystal. He had lived in the mansion long before any of them had even been born. "It is your home, after all," she said simply. "I felt I should ask."

"Well, it's appreciated," Cain said sincerely. He waited a few seconds, then scooped the second fish off the grill and onto the plate, carefully closing the lid of the grill and sitting on one of the patio chairs with his dinner and a bottle of beer. "So what brings you back here, if it ain't prying too much to ask? I was under the impression that you already had a similar job back home, right?"

"I needed a change," Crystal told him. "I spent quite a lot of time in Attilan, and I just needed a change. I thought perhaps I might be able to be useful here."

Cain pondered that, realizing how much it sounded like his reasons for joining the X-Men despite his early objections. "Fair enough," he said with a tip of his bottle. "Well, you're more than welcome."

"Thank you," Crystal said with a smile. "I do not wish to keep you from your dinner any longer, and I believe I have a few pieces of luggage and boxes that still need to be unpacked. Have a good evening; I am sure we will see each other around the school."
