Wanda and Kurt end up on the 'dance floor' together and Wanda gently presses for when someone might be returning home.
As the only 'official' representative of her clan, Wanda felt that it was her duty to celebrate this wedding as much as humanly possible. After all, weddings were a very, very large thing for the Rom and it would not do to fall down on her duties. Laughing, she let someone spin her around the fire, feeling her skirt flare out dramatically.
Drama, life, spark, heat, freedom. It was what she cherished above all else and it raised her spirits like nothing else in the world could.
Kurt appeared from nowhere at that moment - but not in the way he usually did - and grinned at her and her dance partner. "May I cut in?"
Laughing, Wanda twirled out of the arms of the man she'd been dancing with -- a wink and a kiss sent his way as a parting gift -- and into Kurt's arms. "Why, Mr. Sefton, I'd thought you'd never ask," she teased.
"I have had duties of my own", he said, laughing. "Mostly acting as the groom's brother by dancing with every woman in our family, while trying to evade the grandmothers and their questions. Fortunately, I have succeeded so far."
She snorted, saying, "Teleporting away from your relatives is generally frowned upon, Kurt." The music had picked up in a rousing tune as they went back and forth, sometimes ducking under the arms of their neighbors or stepping over the small children that dashed under their feet.
"Only if they realize why and I do not have an acceptable reason to be elsewhere", he said with a grin. "I fear I may have let you in for their questioning in turn, now."
"As if I was not a target before?" Wanda asked dryly, waving to a group of the old ladies as they passed by. "I was constantly asked why, at my incredibly old age and station in my clan -- disregarding the fact that I leave most, if not all, of the delegating to my uncle in my absence -- was not married. You've simply upped the ante, so to speak. In return, you get to answer a question. When are you coming home?"
"Ah, but now they will be even more matchmaking questions, and from two sides", he countered, then came up with a neatly evasive answer to hers. "Some would say I am already - finally - home."
Wanda gave him a look before saying, "And would you count yourself amongst those that say you are home?" she responded.
"I would say I am in... one of the two places that have been home to me", he said quietly. "And the one I have very much missed, for this last year."
She let him twirl her around and then back again before she answered. "That I can understand, especially since you have really not been able to come home. But just keep in mind that you are sorely missed back in New York and I am under orders to bring you dancing with myself when I go out with Marie-Ange and Doug."
"I will certainly come back to visit", Kurt promised, smiling again. "It is only whether I will return permanently that has ever been in doubt."
Wanda eyed him and then nodded. She could understand the desire to want to go home, especially since he had been kept away for so long. It was not something she felt but then again, her home had never been denied to her. "Well, visit often then," she said, teasing, slipping her hands down his arms to grab his hands. "But for right now, let's show your family what they've been missing, yes?"
He laughed and nodded, squeezing her hands right back. "If they are going to interrogate us anyway, we should have some fun before it begins."
"Some fun before it begins, while it happens, and afterwards!" she agreed.
After watching Amanda and Angelo be adorable, Wanda gets to tease a little bit.
Rotating her feet, Wanda sighed as her ankles popped. She hadn't been dancing like this in ages. Nothing compared to it, not even the hottest club back in New York, though she was happy to have a moment to sit. And to drink and, maybe, grab something to eat. She watched the people dancing around the fire – some moving off to the dark shadows, she realized, grinning – and others standing around trading stories.
It wasn't home but it was pretty damned close.
The sound of clapping and cheering caught her attention, and she glanced over to see Amanda breaking off from a kiss with Angelo, the blush visible even in the firelight. A few minutes later, after saying something in the young man's ear, the witch climbed off his lap and headed towards where the drinks were.
Grinning, Wanda pushed herself to her feet and sidled over to where Amanda was. "Having fun?" she asked slyly, nudging her assistant in the arm.
"The best." Amanda was still blushing, something unheard-of in front of her 'Boss Lady'. "You?"
"I doubt our wonderful hosts would allow anything less," she replied, eying Amanda with glee. "Well, you look rather...bright in the face. Too much to drink?" It was said with a smirk.
Amanda stuck her tongue out at Wanda. "Like you weren't watching along with the rest of them. Probably clapping too," she replied, not really cross. "Let's just say the whole wedding thing brings out the romantic in me. That and being alive to enjoy the time with Ange in the first place. 'S been a bit of a rough month."
"I am glad I am immune to most of the wedding charms, or else I would not be able to enjoy you two being absolutely adorable." She nudged Amanda in the arm gently again and grinned. "I hope you two enjoy this as much as possible. A bit of a something to take with you when we come against darker occasions, yes?"
"Something like that, yeah." Considering the conversation they'd just had, Wanda was closer to the mark than she realised. "With what we do, we can't expect things to calm down, so now we're taking our time when we can get it. And speaking of taking fun," she continued, tone turning lighter. "I saw you and Kurt dancing earlier. Looked like you were enjoying yourselves."
Wanda smirked. "I was trying to use my considerable charm and wit in order to induce him back over to the States," she said, waving as a group of people headed off. "It worked, in part, as he's now considering visiting. But I do not think his heart has decided where it wants to linger for good."
"Yeah, we talked about it earlier. I keep feeling like a selfish bitch 'cause I want him back, but he's so happy here." Amanda looked a bit pensive. "I dunno, maybe it is the best place for him. It's not like many of us get a chance at a normal life, and I haven't seen him so relaxed as he is here."
"To be honest, I am not sure I could go back to being normal but I can understand the feeling," Wanda replied. "One day, I might be too old for this and then, I think, I would go looking for a spot of normal. Though with my luck, I doubt I'd find it." She turned to Amanda, curious. "And you?"
"I've got as much normal as I'm ever going to get, I think," Amanda said matter-of-factly. "Someone who loves me, that I love back. Friends. A place to live, a job to go with it." A wry smile crossed her lips. "The fact the job involves throwing myself into the thick end every so often doesn't quite fit the picture I know, but hey, details, details."
Leaning her hip against the table, she nodded in agreement. "I still say we would each manage to find ourselves in trouble even without this job. At least this way, we get paid and we have back up. Not something you could say about most things, anyway." A drink was pushed towards her and Wanda happily scooped it back up. "Enough trouble and travel to keep me in style."
"And I'll drink to that." Picking up her own drink, Amanda clinked it against Wanda's.
