Wanda, Tabs and Laurie
Oct. 26th, 2007 06:46 amEarly this morning, Wanda comes home to discover two Xavier guests camped out in her apartment. It's an early rising all around.
It took Wanda only taking two steps into her apartment to realize she had guests. She wasn't quite sure who had ended up as her temporary roommates but she shrugged, shoving her things to the side. There were more important things to worry about, such as getting her shoes off.
A shower and some food that wasn't take out would be nice as well. She'd spent only a little while in her apartment yesterday morning and had been at the office for the rest of her time home.
Laurie blinked and moved her head as the noise woke her from a rather unhappy dream, something to do with being asked a question she couldn't answer and some form of large grey room that seemed to go on forever. She couldn't help but think that she really needed to stop worrying about how much her schoolwork was piling up when there were bigger fish to fry.
"Mmmph?" she murmured sleepily at the large blurry form moving in front of her.
Wanda peered over the back of the couch and couldn't help a tired smile. Laurie was a good kid -- a bit...well. A bit Laurie, perhaps, but a good kid.
"Didn't mean to wake you," she apologized as quietly as she could, going for the shoes.
"S'okay, you saved me from a dream that was not going anywhere good," Laurie replied with a sleepily smile, not bothering to lift her head from the pillow. It was a nice pillow, all soft and downey.
Tabitha sat up in her borrowed bed at the slight whispers of noise in the living room. She rubbed her eyes and stretched until all of her tired joints popped in protest. Only then did she spare a glance at the clock on the nightstand.
Five minutes before she had to get up for her shift. She snorted softly. Wasn't that always the way? She threw back the covers to shuffle out into the living room. Might as well see what was up.
As someone else appeared from her room, Wanda raised an eyebrow as she tossed her shoes at the wall. She'd clean later. When her insane father was...well, not so insane. Though at the rate he was going, she'd never be able to clean the place. "Morning, sunshine," she managed. "You look like you need some tea. Or coffee."
Tabitha shuffled in like the living dead. "Coffeeeeeee," she mumbled in her early-morning voice.
Laurie wrinkled her nose at the mention of the word 'coffee', she couldn't stand the stuff and didn't know why anyone would want it, but she supposed not everyone could be as enlightened as herself. She smiled at the thought, realizing just how arrogant it sounded.
"I'd adore a cup of tea," Laurie said, reluctantly leaving her soft pillow and sitting up.
"One cup of coffee, two cups of tea coming up." The older one was Tabitha, Wanda recalled as she started things up in the kitchen. The kettle was on the stove and the coffee was brewing. She still felt exhausted but a second wind was coming on strong and with guests, she didn't think she could get much sleep. So, she'd clean herself up and then go back to the office. "How are you two holding up?" she asked, shimmying out of the pantyhose.
"Well, slightly bored but I guess that's what waiting is all about," Laurie replied, voice still soft with fuzziness from her slowly awakening state. "Still I'll take boring over the alternative any day. Mr Summers was saying that the only reason the home team would be called in is if the crap really hit the preverbal fan."
Tabitha stared intently at the brewing coffee. She mumbled a vague reply to Wanda's inquiry. Coffee first, coherent conversation later.
"So, how was DC?" Laurie continued, noting Tabitha's mumbled reply with a grin, some people just weren't morning people...or late at night people as it were.
"Busy and hectic but enjoyable until I had to rush home. The conference well well and, luckily, my bit was done by the time I had to leave." Wanda smiled a little bit. "A change of pace from around here, that's for certain."
Tabitha poured the liquid heaven into a 32 ounce mug and took the first sip black. As the caffeine jolted through her system, she doctored up the brew almost cheerfully. "Around here is eat, sleep, work, possibly work out and try not to get on each other's nerves."
"That can be a little harder at times then it sounds," Laurie said, wincing as she remembered the conversation with Amanda she'd had. She still hadn't figured out how to appoligise for her complete lack of anything resembling good manners.
The older woman shrugged one shoulder. "If it was easy, I'd question your sanity," she said dryly. "Even if you happen to live in the city, such as here, there are plenty of people to annoy on a regular basis. A little snipping at each other is to be expected."
Laurie shrugged in a non-committal way and watched the other two women with bleary eyes. She was still half-tempted to just lie back down. Still, that would be rude.
"I'd rather not snipe at all but I suppose sometimes it can't be helped."
"Sometimes it's the best way to break tension," Tabitha half-yawned as she spoke. Definitely time for more coffee. She rested her head on the counter and whined in a little-kid voice, "don't make me go, Mommy, I don' wanna."
"There, there, poor thing. At this rate, though, I doubt I am going to be getting much sleep. I am in desperate need of a shower and some food that I can use a fork with and then I will probably be back at the office." Wanda leaned around to look at Laurie. "Well, since you seem to be up you can either join me for breakfast once I no longer smell or you're welcome to the free bed."
Laurie thought about it for a moment, glancing forlornly at her soft pillow and realizing she probably wasn't going to get back to sleep. "Breakfast, I think. I can clean up in here while you shower."
Tabitha refilled her enormous coffee mug with the remainder of the pot before she switched it off. "Someone promised donuts. I crave glazed sugary death in a pastry. I'll catch you lovely ladies later, perhaps when we're all coherent at the same time?"
"People around here, coherent? Good luck." She winked at Tabitha. "Lunch or dinner would be the best time and by then, we'll all be a little more awake. Hopefully." Shower, food...and maybe a nap afterwards. That was sounding more and more like a good plan.
