Waiting for her cargo for the Saturday bus run, Amanda is pleased to find Jane joining her.

8:35, bright and early on a Saturday morning. Amanda clattered down the front steps, pulling her leather jacket on, the keys to the mini-van jingling in her hand. She didn't really expect to see any of the kids there yet, but she liked to go over the van before they arrived, make sure it was running okay, the driver's set-up hadn't been changed by another driver and that she had her handy clipboard for taking attendance.

Jane leaned over the edge of the fountain and dragged her hand through the water, splashing at a lazy pigeon that would not dislodged from its perch on the opposite side. Narrowing her eyes, she drew her arm back, preparing to let loose a tidal wave of awesome fury when the front door slammed, breaking her concentration. Jane waved at the blonde figure who had emerged, and then with one last glare are the pudgy squatter, she ceded the field and bounced across the lawn. "Amanda, hi! Are we ready to go?"

Amanda blinked, then grinned. "Well, look who it is, large as life and twice as lively. I saw you were back on the journals - you coming along for the day trip, are you?"

"News travels fast, huh?" Jane beamed. "Yeah. It sounded like fun. Are we going anywhere special? Who's going? I haven't really seen much of anybody yet 'cause I've been trying to settle in, not that I have all that much but you'd be surprised what you pick up when you're travelling, but it'd be nice to see everyone again and I have heard some crazy things so far. And gosh, how are you? I should have asked that first, I'm just so glad to be back and...I'm totally babbling, aren't I?" She gave Amanda an abashed look.

"Just a bit, but you wouldn't be you without it." Amanda laughed, stuffing her hands in her jacket pockets and looking Jane up and down. "Let's see, from the start... no, not going anywhere particular - I basically bring people to New York, they go off and do their thing, and I bring 'em back at the end of the day. We use a buddy system, though - there's been a bit of shite going on and it's safer to stick together. As for me... I'm good. Living in New York, proper working stiff and all." Her grinned turned a little wicked. "Got the nice bloke even."

Jane steeled herself a bit at the mention of Amanda's boyfriend and grinned a little harder. Silly, silly, she told herself. "*The nice bloke?* There's only one?" she teased, gently. Taking a good look at the other woman for the first time, she had to admit that at some point she really had grown up. Amanda looked comfortable in her skin, much more so than she ever had before. "Hey, when did you turn into an adult?"

"Well, there's more than one, but Angelo's the one for me." A blush tinted Amanda's cheeks. "And I'm an adult? Well, bugger me, that snuck up when I wasn't looking. I guess all that taking responsibility for myself must have done something." She shrugged carelessly. "What about you? You went off into the wild blue yonder to find yourself - get any hints?"

"He told me about you two when we caught up. Eee!" Jane flung herself at Amanda and engulfed her in a quick hug before rocking back on her heels, looking pleased. "Very cool. Very cool." She'd always liked Angelo. Things just kept getting more interesting.

"My great adventure, yeah. The traveling? Fun. The research? Do you have any idea how boring records are?" Jane made a disgusted face. "Plus, there's just not a lot out there. Mostly police reports about naked girl sightings and odd cloud behavior -- but that may just be weather. People report the strangest things. But I ran out of leads and... tada? Here I am again."

Amanda squeaked a bit at the unexpected - but really expected, considering this was Jane after all - hug, patting the other girl on the back before she pulled away. "Funny you should mention research..." she said. "Since that's actually what I do these days - I'm Wanda's research assistant. So yeah, know all about the boring records." A thoughtful look crossed her face. "You know, if you want to drum up more leads, the Snow Valley folks might be able to help - strange things tend to be our bread and butter."

"You think they could find something?" she asked. "I just wasn't very good at it. I think I started to figure out the right questions to ask near the end, but..." she trailed off and gnawed her lip. "I just wonder what I missed, I guess. I'm okay if there's nothing. I just want to know there's nothing, you know?"

"Yeah, I think I get it. And I can't promise anything, but like I said, it's what we do. Information, finding people, weird shite... We could take a dig, maybe even give you some pointers. If we can teach Illyana that 'Alias' isn't a documentary, we can probably help you out."

Jane giggled. "Thanks. I mean it. Maybe after I get settled a bit."

"Okay, so this buddy thing you were talking about," she said, switching gears. "I came totally unprepared and am buddy-less. You don't assign them, do you?"

"Fuck no." Amanda mock-shuddered. "Way too much room for squabbling." She tilted her head at Jane. 'It just so happens that my usual date is still laid up with a broken ankle," she said, speculatively.

"So that means you're buddy-less, too?" Jane tried for a speculative look, and failed miserably."I know! We could be each other's buddies! If you don't have other plans," she added.

"I'd say it's a date," was Amanda's response. "We can catch up over lunch, yeah?"

"Heck yeah," Jane agreed. "I can't wait to hear what I missed!"
