Kurt and Amanda have lunch. Sibling teasing, blushing, and verbal slips ensue.

Kurt smiled at Amanda from across the table, sitting comfortably in their booth. "So you are all well, after whatever your most recent adventure was?"

"Considering I don't remember most of it? Right as rain." Amanda gave him a wry smile. "Seems like I'm still a bit of a sucker for the perfect normal life, by all accounts - didn't last the first full day in before I was going native. But everyone else is fine too, as long as you don't count the whole aversion to anything from the 50's. "

"There is much to be said for a perfect normal life", Kurt said quietly. "But I think it would be a little dull. And at least that aversion is to something easily avoided."

"Until the next time it's considered 'retro'," she pointed out, sipping from her water glass. "And I know there's nothing wrong with a normal life, but it kind of bugs me I was the first to cave in. Doesn't speak well for the inner strength and all that." Glass set down, her hands moved to pick at the paper wrapper from the straw.

"Amanda, stop that", he told her, firm but gentle, and one hand went to cover hers. "You were the first to cave, perhaps, but someone had to be - and the others followed, yes?"

"Pretty much everyone, yeah, even Remy and Sofia," she admitted. "Bugger, I'm doing that self-blame thing again, aren't I? You'd think I'd have learned by now." She gave him a grateful smile, and proceeded to change the subject. "So, speaking of my bosses... what's happening with you and Wanda?"

"We are... working things out", he said after a moment's thought. "Most of it, you already know."

"As long as you're happy," Amanda replied, turning her hand over to squeeze his. "You both deserve a bit of that right now. Especially after energy-sucking dancing bastards."

"Yes", he said with a crooked smile. "Now there remains only to convince Wanda that dance contests are not all evil. Or that she is not cursed to bad luck when she enters them."

"You might have trouble getting her to any swing events for a while," Amanda pointed out with a snicker. "Especially anything that has big band music. But I'm all for aiding and abetting otherwise. She's been pushing herself too hard again. I worry about her sometimes - she's worse than Pete or Remy, since they remember to eat regular."

"Is that so. I will aid and abet in making her eat if you will help to persuade her on the dancing?" He'd seen for himself what happened to a probability manipulator who didn't eat properly, after all.

Amanda's grin turned wicked. "There's always breakfast in bed. Hard to say no to that."

Kurt blushed visibly. "I suppose it is, yes."

She laughed at him then. "See, I've been waiting for this ever since I started going out with Angelo. Revenge, it is mine!" she mock-crowed. "And I'm told it's the job of little sisters to tease their older brothers about their dating habits. I wasn't around for most of Stefan's, and you're a late starter, so I have to make up for lost time, don't I?"

"It is not too late to mock Stefan", Kurt advised her solemnly. "Mirela would take part quite happily, I am sure. And I, Gemile-mine, never mocked you when you started seeing Angelo." He hadn't even noticed what name he'd called her by.

The laughing retort died on her lips. "You called me Gemile," she said quietly. "You did it the morning I woke you up at my place too."

He blinked, then retraced his words. "I... so I did. I did not catch myself... I am sorry, jel'enedra."

"It's okay," she said hurriedly, in a tone that clearly added 'as long as it doesn't happen again'. "Old habits and the rest of it. Hey, looks like they're bringing our food over. Good, I think I could out-eat Angel right now. Must be a side effect of not having any powers for a few days."

"Amanda", he said quietly, "please do not do that."

"Kurt, just leave it, all right? You slipped up, no harm done, but I don't want to talk about it." There was a certain familiar set to her jaw as she looked at him. "Let's just move on, all right?" She meant more than just that particular topic.

"...all right", he said after a moment, resigned but clearly unhappy with just dropping the subject.

There was a long awkward silence after that, Amanda's restless fingers tapping nervously on the table top as she looked anywhere but at her brother. She was possibly being a coward, she knew, but some things were better off left alone. And she didn't want to get into another reiteration of this particular discussion. She was Amanda Sefton, and that was that.

Eventually, unable to handle the silence any more, she nudged his leg gently under the table with her foot. "Hey," she said, giving him an apologetic half-smile. "I didn't ask you out to sit here like a couple of stunned mullets. How's the puppy doing?"

"He is quite well", Kurt replied, mustering more of a smile. "I think I have even persuaded him that my tail is neither a toy, nor prey."

She laughed at that. "Considering how much he chewed when I had him? Consider me impressed."
