Jubilee didn't know what the hell was going on. She'd been in the downstairs bathroom, having decided to watch television for a bit before she went to bed and then noticed something strange, rather than exiting.
It wasn't every day you noticed guys in black sidling through your home as if they didn't want anyone to know they were there.
Closing the door quietly, she pressed her back to it and wondered what she should do. She wasn't about to let herself be captured but should she try to warn anyone? It wasn't that she didn't care about the people in the mansion, she did. But what good would letting herself be captured do?
She wasn't an X-Man, and her power could blind them, perhaps, but what did she do about the guys that weren't blinded? Better to escape, head for the woods around the mansion and survive.
Besides, if you got right down to it, she was just plain scared. Those guys didn't look like they'd think twice about killing some smart mouth teenager and if there was one instinct Jubilee had honed to perfection over the years, it was her instinct to survive.
She could deal with the guilt of taking the coward's way out later on, if she got through the next few hours without having her head blown off. Best way to do it would be speed over stealth, these guys probably already had the place surrounded so she'd need to be fast, and simply blast the ones who got in her way. If they were blinded, they wouldn't be able to shoot her, and she could slip by.
Having made her decision, she yanked the door open and headed for the front door at a dead run. What happened next was something she'd be seeing in her nightmares for weeks after.
As she opened the door, she was confronted by a man dressed in black, gun slung low on one hip as he reached for the door. Startled, she let loose with her power, aiming randomly in an effort to blind the guy and get away. The problem with normal humans is that unlike Cain, who was the last person she'd been startled by, they were a lot more delicate.
Jubilee looked on in shook as the man's headless body slumped to the floor, her mind a small, screaming block of sheer horror. Her powers weren't supposed to work that way, they were fun, sparkly fireworks that made people smile, they weren't something that could blow a person's head off.
'Get away, get safe' she thought, sidling around the body, heading for the door.
She wasn't thinking, would not think of what was behind her. It hadn't happened, she didn't do that kind of thing, this was all just a bad dream and any moment now she'd wake up and Kitty would be there, asking her what was wrong.
