Laurie and Crystal - Questions
Feb. 3rd, 2008 03:30 pmBackdated to Sunday. Laurie comes to Crystal with unexpected comments and questions about Crystal's date with Forge.
Laurie knocked on the door to Crystal's room, and grinned as she imagined her friend's face when she asked about the date with Forge. While she'd never deliberately hurt her friend by being uncouth, a little light teasing was to be expected in these situations. She also wanted to be sure about Crystal's intentions, while she knew Forge had received 'the talk' from Crystal's sister, Medusa, she wasn't sure anyone had talked to Crystal in the same way.
Several moments later, the door to Crystal's suite opened. "Hello, Laurie," Crystal greeted her former suitemate. She still wasn't used to having visitors to her suite. In contrast to her suite during her year as a student at the school, it was usually quiet in this suite. Just her and Lockjaw, not five other teenagers with varying schedules, always coming and going and people looking for them and coming over.
"Hey there," Laurie said with a smile. "You got a moment? Thought we could spend some time together before my next class."
"Of course, come in," Crystal said, smiling, moving back and to the side to let Laurie into the room. "I was simply grading tests, and they will not go anywhere and can wait."
Laurie entered, looking around curiously as she made her way into the main room of Crystal's suite. She found she rather liked the decore Crystal had chosen, expensive but tasteful, it spoke of someone used to luxury and knowledgeable about what worked in a room and what didn't.
She turned as she reached the couch, sitting down and waiting for Crystal to do the same before speaking.
Usually, Crystal would have offered a guest something to drink, but Laurie appeared to be on a mission of some sort. She wasn't saying anything, clearly had a reason for the visit... Crystal sat down in a nearby chair and looked at her visitor. "Is everything all right, Laurie?" She hoped there wasn't a reason to be worried and kept a friendly look on her face, rather than one of concern.
"Of course." Laurie said, voice bright and cheerful for a second before giving Crystal a searching look. "I was, well, I guess you could say...Hmm, I wanted to know what your intentions with Forge are."
That had come out sounding a little more prim then she'd been meaning it to but she supposed the question was out there now. She'd meant to ask her about the date at first but it hadn't worked out quite that way in the execution.
It wasn't polite to stare at people, Crystal knew that. However, the question, or statement rather, took her by complete surprise. It wasn't something she'd expected anyone to say, especially not Laurie. "I... what?" she managed to say in about a thousand years of a few moments of absolute silence. "What do you mean?"
"You went on a date, right? At least, Forge seemed to think you did." Laurie replied, feeling that perhaps she should have worked toward the question a little less abruptly. Done was done though, and it was just left for her to forge on..."I just wanted to make sure what your intentions are. He's, well, I'd be upset if anyone played with his feelings. Not that I think you would, because you're not that type of person but well, I'm his friend and I don't know if anyone else would think to ask you about it, so...here I am."
Forge had spoken to Laurie about their date? Crystal wasn't sure what to make of that. She wouldn't have been surprised to find out that he'd told Kyle or Angelo, but Laurie? The thought of Forge and Kyle swapping dating stories was odd enough, but Laurie? The idea was entirely unexpected. "Yes, Laurie; Forge and I went on a date together, and I do not have the intention of 'playing with his feelings'."
"Good." Laurie replied, glad that was over with, now she could get on with what she'd come here for, finding out about the date! "Sooo. I tried to tell Forge that giving details was important in these situations but he seemed unwilling to elucidate beyond telling me he'd had fun, and getting a goofy grin on his face. Which leaves you, my dear Crystal, to inform me on how it went. Pleeeease? Those of us currently dateless need to hear these things, so we can live vicariously through our friends. It's a grand tradition, goes back centuries, I assure you."
"We went out to eat. We ate pasta. Then we went ice-skating at Rockefeller Center. We had fun." Crystal wasn't sure what else to say. Medusa had received more details, and depending on how well she took the name of Crystal's date, Lorna would, too. This was Laurie, though. While they had been suitemates, that had been over three years ago for Crystal. For nearly two years, she had believed everyone on Attilan to simply be... away. She hadn't known about the time difference until Illyana had arrived. Knowing and seeing, however, were two different things. In Crystal's mind, Laurie should be turning twenty soon, too, but she wasn't. She wasn't finished with high school and in her first year of college; she was still a high school student, even if she was in her last year.
"He told me you guys went iceskating, that must have been fun." Laurie said, noting the somewhat limited reply. She forgot sometimes just how much Crystal had changed, that she was an adult and a teacher now. It saddened her at times because she liked Crystal, and didn't really know how to bridge the gap anymore.
Crystal nodded, wondering what else Forge might have told Laurie. "Yes. I was quite surprised that Forge chose to go ice-skating. It was his suggestion, not mine. It allowed him to get exercise outside, though, which is good."
"He does need to get out more, he spends so much time in that lab of his, but I guess it's what he's used to." Laurie responded, looking at her watch and realising she was going to be late for class if she didn't get a wriggle on. "And, I have to go. Mrs Grey-Summers is going to kill me if I'm late for Biology."
"Do not worry; I will see to it that Forge will spend more time outside," Crystal told Laurie. "I believe horseback riding will be a good way to do that."
Laurie grinned widely at the image of Forge on a horse, Crystal was definitely going to keep him on his toes, that was for sure. "And you know, if you ever wanted to catch up at all, I still run during the mornings."
It was an attempt to reconnect, find a new balance. Laurie had managed it with Forge, and she hoped that she and Crystal could do the same.
Running in the morning... yes, years ago, she had gone jogging with Laurie in the mornings. Crystal wasn't sure how much "catching up" needed to be done, but running in the mornings was not a bad idea at all. "Tuesday morning, perhaps?
"Tuesday is perfect." Laurie said, standing to leave. "I'll see you then."
